Lemme preface this by saying that I am absolutely against making this trade. That being said, if we are going to do something stupid, today would be the day. If we trade for Watson, the Tua era is officially over. Putting him onto the field on Sunday would be a Dolphins-level stupid decision. Do you want to risk injury to a guy that you are effectively saying, "We don't want you" onto the field. Imagine that Tua goes out there and suffers a season ending injury. Trading an injured player, especially someone like Tua who has a history of injury problems, is much more difficult than trading a healthy player. If we were 2-3, I could see this game salvaging the season. I think the playoffs are essentially a pipe dream at this point. If we don't pull the trigger today, we still risk losing leverage and getting a worse deal. Again, what if Tua gets hurt? Caserio, at best, would not budge from their current offer. Maybe the offer gets worse for us. What if Tua goes out there and has a bad week? Again, that plays into the Texans' hand. I really do not think that it works the other way. The Dolphins have seen Tua for a year and a half. Clearly, they are willing to move on from him. One game, no matter how good, should not change their underlying position. Today really should be the day if they are gonna make the move.
They never said he was the only problem or not. Again, this is about the QB situation. Of course they are going to focus on the QBs. ..:and we can’t forget that we all here and all over the entire sports world had been praising Flo & Co until this season. They did some good things. I have always hated their drafting. Anyway, this is about the QB situation and that’s what they are discussing. Pretty simple.
Tua's ceiling isn't even as high as Watson's current level of play. As far as Watson's off the field 'civil suits' I think it's nothing more than a money grab based on everything I've read. Yeah, maybe he has some slightly weird sexual fetishes, but nothing that a I've read rises to the level of illegal. With the lack of evidence of any illegalities, it'll all get dropped. Unless the prosecution is keeping it extremely close to the vest, they got nothing on Watson. I personally wouldn't ever want miss an opportunity to upgrade the QB position, especially here where we are cursed. On the other hand. Texans been talking to multiple teams, attempting to drive the price up. I'd have to hear details of the trade to see if I'd wanted to pull the trigger. But I imagine it will be pricey. Btw, why is Grier still not fired? Somehow I think he and Ross' relationship has risen to more than professional. Also, reliable footfall news sources should stop posting 'rumors' unless they have some sort of inside scoop. Otherwise they are no better than thousand of other non-reputable football "news" outlets.
Whether people want to convince themselves he is guilty or not guilty he is still likely to get suspended. If you ignore any moral aspects and we also assume he can make this go away by settling or whatever we are still left with A QB who we have no idea when he can play. Since nobody else is going to trade for him until there is more clarity the Dolphins shouldn't either.
Two different quarterbacks, two completely different skills sets. You can’t make that statement accurately without both players in situations to showcase their skills. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t but you don’t need nor WANT that distraction in your locker room. You want players focused on the game and not a player’s high profile legal situation. No one ever wants to pass on the opportunity for an elite quarterback but with all of the problems the Dolphins have, if we did have Watson as our QB, we would be just one player shy of being the Houston Texans ourselves. Only a fool would wager their team in a single player. Ross has demonstrated not only his incompetency as an owner of an NFL team, but a foolish loyalty to personnel before realizing too late that he’s been duped. Two words…”FAKE NEWS”
People in here talking about us being curse at the qb position and then wanting to trade for a guy whos had interactions with 40+ masseuses in a half calendar year. You realize in watsons best case scenario he was soliciting these women.
And in which "skill" notable for QBs does Tua outperform Watson? None. Maybe scrambling. That's quite the silly point of view. If we were talking about Aaron Rodgers would this rule you've made up still apply? Which is also amusing going by the second line, which is something you have no basis to presume. I haven't heard of Watson ever having issues in the locker room, especially rallying the offense around him. It's unlikely he'd start this season, and even we got him in time to learn the whole playbook, he'd be playing in garbage games. I think the Texans is the perfect team to compare the two QBs since we can't clone the Dolphins (scary thought.) As Tua throws another pathetic INT I finish up this post.
I’ll be happy if this thread dies with no resolution to the title. Not because I believe Tua is the answer but rather I’m not going to support a sexual predator over a player who has earned a shot to prove himself. Who also happens to seem like a stand up guy.
This one's pretty interesting because if there is zero talk about trading for Watson, Tua would have no reason not to say that. I mean, if the transparency was, "We have no interest in trading for him," then that wouldn't have to "reman private". This makes me think that conversations are legitimately happening.
As many have said clearly the Dolphins are very close to making this deal. They have long moved off of Tua. One never needed to be a Philadelphia lawyer to see that the tepid endorsements Tua was getting from coaches/management, combined with all the smoke, that it was realized that Tua was bang-average pretty early. I suspect the Dolphins had buyers remorse a few practices in last Summer, but they couldn't publicly acknowledge that...even though Flores pretty much did anytime the subject of Tua came up. As the Dolphins move on from Tua here in the next week (provided terms are agreed to), lots of questions remain. Watson is undoubtedly more talented and a better QB than Tua could ever dream to be, but Watson's inevitable acquisition will undoubtedly be controversial. Many will find that trading for the sexual creep morally abhorrent, some will feel mixed, while others will not care. Lots of other issues still plague the Dolphins clearly, and once Watson arrives soon, we have another 2-3 years of rebuilding the defense, OL, and skill positions. Hang on to your hats - it is going to be a wild ride the next few years. I guess one thing is clearly a positive is that as the Dolphins move away from Flores and Grier this offseason after an 2-4 win season, the new regime will build around Watson. i doubt any incoming HC/GM would want to hook their wagon to a cognitively low performing (impoverished Wunderlich) QB with extremely poor arm velocity (amongst the worst in his cohort); however, i am sure many big names would be happy to tie their career to Watson. This should open up that aperture when the time comes. Well it was a long road. i think most people knew deep down that Watson to Miami was inevitable. Now that this saga is just about over, we shall see. The sexual creeper weirds me out, but as the Dolphins continue to mean less and less to most people, I suspect few really care. So long Tua - you never had a chance, lacked the most basic genetic qualities, and definitely were done wrong by a group of clowns running this mess.
I’m not sure why anyone would want to come to this dysfunctional mess. We’re in contention for nothing this year and what does our future outlook look like? The hope of some of Grier’s picks panning out
Kinda funny- I read an article from an hour ago that said Watson has only approved Miami as a destination. Now we're hearing the exact opposite. I really think this is all noise. My guess is that Miami has inquired in Watson just like we inquire about any solid player around the league. That's not "showing interest" per say, but it's more like, "If we can get this guy at the right price, maybe we'd be interested." I think that's what several teams have been doing and that doesn't mean anything is imminent like we've been hearing. This topic is being sensationalized by the media because that's what they do. With that said, it's still entirely possible Watson comes to Miami this week. But I'd also expect the odds to be strongly against it since nobody is going to pay 3 first rounders and multiple second rounders. If the Texans get realistic with their ask AND throw in some guarantees, then this could happen with Miami or somewhere else. Grier and every GM has to know though that this move would define their career in the league- if it turns into a worst-case scenario, it would likely be their last job in the NFL.
he won't come to Miami. After all , who in their right mind would want to join this car crash of an organisation?
I don't understand why this is an issue. We had our choice of Herbert or Tua on draft day. Clearly someone within the organization liked Tua enough to make that pick. Less than a full season in the league behind a garbage oline and backup WRS and we are giving him the boot. Especially, since it's for a guy with pending civil issues and suspensions on the horizon. This would be a boneheaded move that looks clearly like something we would do to set the franchise back even further. I have no doubt that we will unfortunately make this trade and get fleeced in the process. Making the matter worse is, Tua will probably be traded to the saints, and he will go on to have a Brees like career.
There may be some truth to this. Fuller is probably filling in Watson on what's really happening in Miami. If it's as bad as it looks from the couch, or maybe worse, no way he signs. Fuller is on a one yr deal, rumor was they wanted to continue to play together, they can do that with some other team if they decide. Pretty hilarious (ie sad) when even the ugly girl doesn't want to go to the dance with you. Watch Tua hold out next yr. lol
I understand "winning cures all" but this isn't the way to do it. It just sends more bad precedence to our youth, even though this has been going on since the dawning of time. Trading for Watson that is and I hope we don't trade for him and a part of me wonders if this is all Houston trying to get his trade value up.
I think we are the only team involved in this trade, and the Texans are tying to get us to bid against ourselves. What would Carolina be offering that could be better than what we could be offering?
That's the talk here in North Carolina local radio. Between the Dolphins and Panthers. Personally, I'm not ready to give up on Tua. I don't put yesterday on him. He put us in a position to win, and our defense didn't follow up. That said, I get why many have given up on him.
Okay, this makes total sense now. Think about it- Watson could have settled this months ago by paying the original complaint. If he did, none of this ever comes to light in the way that it did. He also demands a trade around the same time for unrelated matters. Both the Texans and teams wanting to trade for Watson have sought to settle all the legal stuff by offering a payout if a NDA was provided. That's what the complainants were seeking as well- they wanted to get paid and that's been documented from the very start. It sounds like Watson is refusing that though and maintaining his complete innocence. I'd bet a dollar that's exactly the reason nobody has signed him yet- they won't do it with all this stuff hanging over his head. But at the same time, he's refusing to settle and no team wants to "roll the dice" with him and hope that he wins. So it's the perfect stalemate- nobody wants to budge and it sounds like Watson is more worried about his image than he is playing football. Good for him, I guess...at least he's sticking to his guns. It's probably the wrong move though since this will not go away and a court hearing will make him look 10x worse than he does now.
Miami still looks bad even if they don't trade for him. If they weren't going to make the move they should have stopped playing footsy and fully committed publicly and privately to Tua.
The sense I am getting, no team is getting worked up over Watson because the perpetually mediocre Dolphins may or may not have interest in him from a conjured up rumor from the Texans.
