So how was Spiderman? Good? Bad? I've read a few reviews that it's one of the best MCU movies of the last decade, but I haven't had a chance to go see it yet.

I hate that because they are part Sony we don't see them on D+. Big failing to not bring them over - I still haven't seen the Mysterio one at this point. So now I kind of want to see the new one, but also don't really want to jump in without seeing the prior and will probably just skip it and watch Matrix instead lol.

I really enjoy the idea of bringing out a multiverse and bringing back past characters as alt-universe types, and I really enjoyed what I saw of Molina's return as Ock in the trailers. But oh well, work is just too dang busy to line up multiple movies at this time.

It is really fun. Especially if you like the old Sony Spider-Man movies.

I feel like I need to see it again because I had some preconcieved notions of MCU Spider-Man that kind of hurt my enjoyment of this movie. Without these preconcieved notions I think I will like the movie a lot better.

    Still really enjoyed the experience.

I'm still not going to the theaters but I saw a decent bootleg of it last night (don't hate me for that). It's really good. There are a lot of subtle references in it that fans of the previous series and the comics will appreciate. It's Tom Holland's best movie yet. And as Dol-Fan Dupree noted, Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe are nothing short of fantastic. Dafoe stole the movie, IMO.

Without spoiling anything, I thought Jamie Foxx's role was underwritten and he didn't impress me much. Also, Flint Marko (Thomas Haden-Church) was an afterthought and if his character (Sandman) wasn't in the movie, it totally wouldn't have been missed. Those two points are literally my only issues with it. I'm going to watch it again soon and when it releases, I'm going to buy it on digital.

Maybe I'll watch all three MCU Spider-Man films in my lead up to the ball dropping on New Years Eve. Depends on who's playing in the bowls that day.

The Mysterio one was a lot of fun- but not really a game-changer if you don't see that one 1st.

I thought Sandman was fun CGI stuff.

Also the movie had enough in it. You would have to make it a mini series to give Foxx more to do. Green Goblin is the A villain, Doc Ock is the B villain, Foxx is the C villain, Sandman and the Lizard ard D villains.

I am also probably the only person sad that Topher Grace wasn't in the movie.

Agreed. Pretty much everything you need to know about the 2nd Holland movie is that him and MJ are together now and his identity is known.

However, they pretty much establish that at the beginning of No Way Home.

That's what I was thinking too- it's the first appearance of the new MJ. Nothing else really jumps out as crucial to the storyline and everyone already knows who MJ is anyway, so he's really not behind.

It was just a fun story, no huge takeaways, but lots of laughs and several great action scenes.

There are small things that you'd miss if you didn't watch Far From Home. You'd wonder where the heck J. Jonah Jameson came from. You might wonder why Peter has access to Stark Industries technology. The first mention of the multiverse was in it, too. I don't know if any of that's significant to the big picture.

One of the subtle but most significant things about No Way Home was how it introduced tragedy into Peter's life. Spider-Man isn't Spider-Man if he doesn't have grief and loss as a motivator. From here on out, he's earned his webs. This video touches on it - it spoils the movie, so don't watch if you don't want to know some of the major points prior to watching the movie.

Okay, I went and saw it last night- WOW! I need to see it again but it was absolutely the best Spiderman movie ever made!

With that said, I disliked the main plot line for the most part. It was mostly AMAZING but the whole thing driving Spidey was kinda dumb...the writer in me sort of took offense. But the way it turns out is incredible and easily one of the biggest MCU shockers of all time, with lots and lots of fun afterwards.

DON'T watch any of the spoilers people! You don't want to know what's coming because it ruins the magic!

Oh, and speaking of magic, I absolutely love Dr. Strange! I thought it was pretty neat how they tied him into this movie as a compliment to Spidey. The ending that Owes just referred to in the YouTube clip...that sucked...but it also made the movie pretty darn special.

DON'T WATCH THAT YOUTUBE CLIP unless you've seen the movie!!!

OK.....I scrolled past all of the Spiderman stuff so I won't get spoiled, lol. The world keeps conspiring to prevent me to go and see it. Hoping to go this coming Friday. Fingers crossed. I'll read everything that you guys said after I do.

I finished Hawkeye and liked it. It got better as it went along, and ended up doing everything that I expected and hoped that it would. I really liked how they finished up in the last two episodes. While it leaves things vague, it really seems like its leading into the future for multiple characters.

My view of the first four MCU shows on Disney+

    1. Loki
    2. Wandavision
    -
    -
    -
    -
    3. Hawkeye
    -
    -
    -
    4. Falcon and the Winter Soldier

I also watched almost all of What If, and really enjoyed it for the most part. (I skipped the zombie episode, because I just don't deal with that, even animated). Some were really good, others not so much, but I felt that they did it right and I liked how they were all connected in the end. I did feel like they overused a few characters and really could have found spots for others that were either totally or mostly ignored. Looking forward to season 2 when it comes along.

Yeah, Hawkeye was pretty good. The mega throwdown at Rockefeller Center was a little silly, IMO. NYC has tens of thousands of cops and nobody knew that every soldier in an entire crime organization was in full-on assault at an outdoor skating rink that never closes? Not just that, but what crime organization sends 50+ soldiers to take out two people? It didn't ruin the final episode the way having too many balls in the air and not enough time to catch them all ruined Falcon & The Winter Soldier's final episode, but it came close. Loved literally every major character in the show, even though Wilson Fisk was more fan service than necessary.

I rank the shows as follows:
    1. Loki - Every episode was interesting and fun. I didn't think Tom Hiddleston could carry the show and I was burned out on Loki after he appeared so many times but I was wrong on both counts. I'm going to rewatch the entire series. Oh, and I'm in love with Ms. Minutes. Blew open the whole concept of the multiverse that's feeding all of phase 4's story lines. Even introduced the next huge overarching villain.
    2. WandaVision - It petered out when Quicksilver popped up and lost steam for a couple of episodes. Elizabeth Olsen is incredible and Paul Bettany nailed Vision. Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness might have been the single best performance of all the Disney+ shows. Opened up a ton of new possibilities for the MCU future.
    3. Hawkeye - Played out like a six-episode movie and brought Kingpin and the possibility of Netflix's Defenders into discussion. Rumor has it that Echo season #1 will effectively be Daredevil season #4 and I'm 'bout it. Jeremy Renner, HaileeSteinfeld and Florence Pugh had three of the best performances of the Disney+ MCU shows. Only drawback was the aforementioned silly clamactic battle. Tony Dalton's Jack DuQuesne was low key brilliant. Almost as fantastic as Agatha Harkness, IMO.
    4. What If...? - I liked every episode. Even more when it turned out Marvel makes the stories canon. Strange Supreme's introduction is going to give Benedict Cumberbatch a chance to chew some serious scenery when he goes live action.
    5. Falcon & The Winter Soldier - Even though I picked this as the fifth-best show, it had moments that were better than all of the others. Bucky and the shrink. Bucky's back story, having murdered his neighbor's son. Sam's backstory with his family. Isaiah Bradley. Ayo picking Bucky free of his arm in a super easy, barely inconvenient fashion. Battlestar's death and the subsequent scene of John Walker holding Cap's shield - America's shield - covered in the blood of a dead terrorist. I could write a book of essays about that scene alone. But it lost a lot by making the Flag Smashers typical villains instead of complex 3-D antagonists that deserved sympathy. The same writing almost ruined John Walker, BTW, but Wyatt Russell saved him. And the final episode was about two hours too short.

All in all, I enjoyed all five shows and plan on watching all episodes of some (Loki, What If...?, Hawkeye) and some episodes of others again. Although I ranked F&TWS last, it had some of the best scenes of the entire Disney+ MCU. The difference between #2 and #5 is razor thin. It was a great idea to use Disney+ to develop characters who were essentially background players to more powerful and charismatic heroes. Can't wait to watch Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and Secret Wars.

I gave Daredevil part of one episode and hated it. Its really not an MCU show, and I have zero interest. So I guess I just have to deal with it. Same with the other ones on Netflix.

Miss Minutes is played by the extremely talented (and sexy) Tara Strong, who's one of the best and most prolific voice actors of this century. I've been a big fanboy of hers for about twenty years. She and they really did do a terrific job with the character.

My ranking would be like this.
#1. Loki - I enjoyed the premise and I enjoyed the characters. None of the episodes felt like a waste and it was consistently good. Due to covid it was only half of what they were planning, however, I also think it is the only show that stuck the landing. Very much interested in the second season.
#2. WandaVision - Loved the premise but having two full episodes of just TV show parody is a lot to ask the average viewer. However, I really liked the characters and it was very fun to see. Last episode was rushed due to Covid as well. Also would have been nice if magic wasn't just two people throwing energy at each other. I wish that after Dr. Strange they would keep on doing imaginative things with magic instead of purple energy vs red energy. Though I did like the rune thing at the end.
#3. Falcon and the Winter Soldier - I loved the dynamic between Sam and Bucky. I loved how the didn't sugar coat racism and tackled it head on. Seeing the conversation with Sam and Isaiah reminded me of conversations I had with my Grandpa, and that is not something I ever expected to see in the Marvel movie. John Walker was great until the last episode. Loved when Ayo showed up. Baron Zemo was fun. Agent 13 was kind of stupid though. The Flag Smashers I think were ruined by COVID, as they say the rumors that it was based on a pandemic were false, but I don't believe them as it just fit perfectly. That just made them a confusing villain team. The last episode was crap and the Sam speech at the end just felt pandering to white people. Easily the worst last episode of all the series.
#4. Hawkeye - I thought Hawkeye started off strong. I love "very bad day" movies and that is what it felt like. Then after the new Black Widow showed up the show was just not very good. Or at least it went down in quality. I enjoyed the two Hawkeyes dynamic. I thought they were fun. The Swordsman was the weirdest character, but I kind of enjoyed how he was just foreshadowed as a villain but it turns out he was just a kind of creepy weird rich guy who liked swords. The problem I had with the ending is that it felt like it just became a cartoon. The last episode just didn't feel like it had any stakes. The track suit mafia were just jokes, none of the huge stunts look like it even matter. If Kingpin can punch Kate Bishop and make her go flying, she should at least have some brusing and broken bones. The end Black Widow scene felt so stupid. If it wasn't so much fun I would have the ending be worse then Falcon and the Winter Soldier, however at least they didn't just change a character out of nowhere. I enjoyed the show, but I was also disappointed because it started out so strong.
#5. What If? - I still haven't finished it. First episode was fine but felt pointless. It was fun. Second episode was awesome. I loved Black Panther as Star Lord. Third episode was terrible. Ant-Man was the killer wasn't even set up. 4th Episode was good, however, disappointed they fridged. I have zero desire to see Zombies, so I stopped. I might finish it some day.

I am looking forward to more TV shows. They are fun. None of them were a waste of my time even if I felt disappointed by Hawkeye and the last episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

I actually LOVE Yelena. She's one of my favorite new characters of the last few years, and her back and forth with Kate was also terrific. I'm hoping to see more of them together in the future. I thought the show got better from that point, personally. It was dragging a bit until then.

The way that they used Yelena to show her perspective on the blip was also really, really well done and added to the greater MCU because of it.

Don't want to spoil anything, but I thought that her involvement was pretty necessary to tie a bow on Natasha's story. I'm pretty sure that was always the plan, and I thought that they did it effectively.

It did do that, but I don't think it helped the show of Hawkeye. While I enjoyed her interaction with Kate Bishop, if you eliminate her storyline I think the show is stronger. Also, I think Echo could have been removed as well, though she was cool. Just didn't feel like she was a part of the Track Suit Mafia. Even the spoiler, having that person lead the Track Suit Mafia didn't make sense to me.

IMO, of all the Marvel shows Hawkeye suffered the most by adding in the MCU tieing elements.

I guess it depends on how you look at them. For the most part, I see them being extra MCU connectors as their prime purpose, and their own individual stories as secondary. They're there to fill in the gaps and add flavor to the movies. At least that's how I've always looked at it since they were announced, and for that I think they've mostly done a good job.

I love tie-ins and connections, however, I like it when the story is helped by the tie-in. Like in Ant-Man, adding that little heist with the Falcon tie-in was fun and I think helped the story along. I just found them to be more detrimental to Hawkeye. Maybe if they did a better job of it, I would feel differently. I still don't know why Yelana just left after the first battle, or not just snipe him. I just felt it was clunky and didn't add to the story they were telling. Almost like a side story.

Overall, it feels as if the whole show was a jumping off point for a lot of other things. Clint's probably gone in the future, but we'll probably have season 2 with Kate as Hawkeye. We're also well set up for Young Avengers with a new Black Widow and a new Hawkeye along with Isaiah Bradley's grandson (new Cap), and Cassie Lang (Stature) all being introduced. And possibly Wiccan and Speed, thanks to WandaVision. Additionally, we can expect the Echo series, which will bring Matt Murdoch and Wilson Fisk into greater focus.

I liked Hawkeye mostly because it didn't feel like I was watching a TV show, but a movie. But overall, it went out of its way to establish the next generation of MCU characters and story lines. Far from perfect, but it was definitely fun.

I'll be the first to admit that I didn't see the Black Widow end credits scene being a setup for a television show instead of a movie.

Finally watched Eternals. Thanks to so many people trashing it on Twitter and in critic reviews, my expectations were in the trash. I was pleasantly surprised, though. It wasn't in my top-10 MCU movies, but it was definitely worth a second watch. People are knocking it for its "wokeness", but while watching it, I didn't feel as if its female lead or the inclusion of an ethnically diverse cast (and gay characters) was a distraction because they were well written, IMO. I was less interested in the mid-credits scene than I was in the end credits scene.

The only problem I had was in the power sets of each character. Having never been a big Eternals fan in the comics, I was scratching my head over what each character's ability actually was. Also, I still don't know all of their names.

I can see it being problematic for the cosmic MCU, because the Celestials are too huge and powerful to ignore. In their shadow, literally nothing matters. Very well may have opened the door to bringing Galactus to the MCU. I'd give it 7/10 and recommend it for somebody with time to pay attention.

Yeah, their agenda is transparent. But there is an enabling homeboy on YouTube who gets clicks by complaining about casting actors of color in the roles of characters who were white in comics. He's a wannabe Candace Owens who clearly panders to so-called "conservatives" who are looking for something to complain about. I don't watch his videos but I'm sure he got a lot of views when Star Wars: The Force Awakens dropped with a white female and Black male in the most prominent roles. He probably is one of the guys who ran Kelly Marie Tran into brief hiding.

Honestly, the only real complaint that I could see in the casting in Eternals is why cast white British people in the first place, if the characters are supposed to be fitting in with the Fertile Crescent in ancient times? White people might not even have existed in their current form at that point! If they were going for logic, then it really doesn't make sense. I had that feeling immediately after watching it.

My main complaint with the movie, again, is that its just so melancholy the whole way though. 2+ hours of Gemma Chan being depressed. I thought that was massively overdone, and doesn't fit in with the overall vibe of the MCU. I also thought that they could and should have taken a much deeper dive into the the in-universe reasons for them being on Earth in the first place, and the details of how and why they were, and why they look and sound the way that they do, if possible. A few more lines throughout and even five more minutes focusing on all of that could have been a lot more satisfying.

Your point about white Brits happens to be the first thing that came to my mind when I watched it. And you're right, it fits oddly in the MCU. And any problems with Gemma Chan end for me once I'm watching Gemma Chan. The biggest problem for me was how poorly developed Thena and Ajak were. Thena was wasted by going randomly loopy, which didn't serve much storytelling purpose, IMO. And Ajak's sudden fate was underwhelming, other than when it was revealed how she died. Phastos was too melodramatic, Gilgamesh was only interesting because Don Lee made him interesting, and Makkari was underwritten even though she had a charismatic presence. Druig and Sprite were the best two characters, IMO.

I also kind of scratched my head when I realized that all of the Eternals were humanoid. Makes no sense that the only sentient life in the universe is humanoid, but there were hundreds of them on the assembly line being built, programmed, and rolled into production. It just seemed off, especially when they showed a scene from a planet that had predators chasing alien life forms around. Why send a group of human-looking protectors there? Lost opportunity to show how diverse they are.

Really enjoyed seeing Homelander show up in the final act. I enjoyed it, but had problems with a lot of it. The biggest problem is that if you ask me what each character's specific power is, I'm at a loss to explain it. Makkari was a speedster, but the rest? They did... stuff. But it was enjoyable.

I also felt that the character of Thena was largely wasted, and the casting of Angelina Jolie was totally wasted because of it. Why go to the trouble of casting one of the most famous actresses in the world and then giving her that character? They could have cast a hundred other people and gotten the same result, and then maybe saved her for another movie.

I actually didn't like Druig or Sprite very much at all. Druig's character arc was important and worthwhile, but they did almost nothing to make the character appealing or sympathetic to me. Had they done more of that, and set him up as someone who the audience could like and get behind, then I think it would have been a lot more meaningful. I also had an absolutely terrible time understanding what he was saying for most of the movie, due to the actor's extremely thick Irish accent. Which again, makes absolutely zero sense in-universe for the character. Why would he talk that way? If the actor can't drop the accent, then cast someone else.

I was able to finally catch No Way Home in between snowstorms here, and liked it. Didn't love it, but it was good. It was pretty much what I expected it to be, given all of the unavoidable spoilers that have been out there for ages, sadly. The addition of Dr. Strange was huge both for the plot points and for Bennedict Cumberbach's performance. He really helped the movie feel more whole. I also felt that they used MJ, Ned, May and Happy well and in the right amount.

I felt that Molina and Defoe both did fine jobs returning to their roles. It felt a lot like The Force Awakens in that way, pulling aging actors back into things. I thought that they used them both properly and the right amount. Sandman and Croc were both used about the right way in smaller roles too. I felt that they overused and overemphasized Jamie Fox's character. I've never seen the Amazing Spiderman movies and don't like him as an actor, so it wasn't for me.

This was actually the first thing I've ever seen Andrew Garfield in, and I was very pleased. He seemed committed to the project and sold it. It would have been easy for someone in his position to mail it in, but I thought he nailed it. The writing and interplay between the three Peters was all done well, and I enjoyed that they through in humor and 4th wall stuff for the audience. It made it fun.

In the end, they did a credible job of making the movie both something that extends into multiple universes and at the same time was mostly contained to the lives of Peter and Dr. Strange within the MCU. Kudos for that, as solo films sometimes leave the viewer wondering where the other heroes are.

Rumor is that the next MCU show to air on Disney+ will be Moon Night, in late March. The trailer is coming on Monday.

And then She Hulk will likely be out at some point in the Summer. Probably sandwiched between Dr. Strange and Thor.

Ms. Marvel keeps getting pushed back. Apparently, there are notable concerns with how things are going with the project. It likely needs to be out by next Winter, before The Marvels is in cinemas February of 2023.

Sad they changed her power. Shouldn't really lump her into the Marvels as well. She is not that kind of hero.

I agree with a lot of what you said. The problem with Druig for me was that his power was pretty much useless in the end. I honestly don't know why they needed to get the whole gang back together because if he couldn't mind control Homelander **derp** I mean, Ikaris, how was he helpful? Might need to pay closer attention on a rewatch. I like characters who are painted in shades of gray (like Killmonger) and Druig was the grayest MCU character in a while.

I wonder what the pitch to Angelena Jolie was? "We want you to play a one-note conflicted character with questionable abilities and minimal impact on the plot. There won't be a lot of development and if you're never heard or seen again in future projects, nobody will notice or care. Can you do it as a blonde?"

Now that I think about it, I'm considering which of the characters was necessary in the plot and only Sirsi, Ikaris and Blastos did anything significant. Thena was underwritten, Gilgamesh and Kingo were extras, and Kro was completley unnecessary. I liked Sprite, but her contribution to the overall film was to humanize everybody else. Her betrayal fell extremely flat, as did Kingo's exit. It was really just a movie about Sirsi. Think I'll regrade it 6/10.

One last thing: Did they really like their hairstyles so much that they kept them for 7,000 years or did their current styles come back into fashion in present day? They should have made them look different between the Babylon scenes and the modern scenes. Now I'm nitpicking...

I really like when a villain is someone who has reasonable/legit reasons to get to where they are and make the choices that they end up making. Certainly humanize them, and make them a person where the audience can say "what they did was wrong, but I understand why they did it". But I didn't see that with Druig. He was just a character of questionable/luke warm morality who hung around in the middle ground while acting like an *** the whole time. That's a different thing.

Otherwise, I totally agree with with a movie as long as it was, they did an extremely questionable job of explaining things, closing plot holes, giving characters depth, and giving characters reasons for doing everything that they did. The movie was overwhelmingly focused on everyone's emotional state, at the great expense of basically everything else.
