When I was active on the Bioware forums, I had a lot of debates with the PC master race crowd, who believed that RPGs basically started with the Baldur era, and nothing that came before it counted or mattered, lol. A lot of them even hated that the Bioware games came to consoles at all.

    PC gamers are freaking annoying.

Though I did love Baulder's Gate. So much fun.

I thought Dragon Age III was a perfect combination of strategy and fun. II was just too random for me. I like the idea of setting up my characters in a strategic way. Also hated how in II they took away the ability to dress your characters. I love getting armor and putting it on to see what it looks like. Getting items in II felt like a chore. Everything should have just given me gold.

When DA:I came out, it was so exciting. A new console generation, and this long awaited RPG that had really awesome realistic graphics, and as you said, you can customize gear for your entire party, and it all shows in battle! I thought this would be the step towards all the amazing things that could be done with the more powerful systems.

And then....crickets. That was it. Eight years later now, and there basically hasn't been another game that's moved the envelope an inch further in the genre. Freaking maddening.

DA:O was my first DA game and the only one I enjoyed since. Can't remember if I finished 2, definitely didn't finish Inq.

Finally got my copy of Edge of Eternity after following the game for years. Its great to have smaller publishers keeping the party based RPG genre alive. The game is far from perfect, and I'm disappointed in the graphics, which are at best the level of Dragon Age Origins. But I can live with a lot of that to support the dev.

But what's been really frustrating is that the game has randomly crashed three different times in about 4 hours of game play so far, it doesn't have an autosave feature, and you can only manually save at certain points (ala old school Final Fantasy games). So each time, I've had to reboot the game and start back at the last point I was able to actually save, which sucks.
At least it lets you skip cut scenes the second time through.

It stinks that even with a game running borderline PS2/PS3 graphics that its seemingly not made to play well on base level PS4s.

I got Octopath Traveler. Its very solid for what it is. 16-bit era homage. I put it up for a while because my kids have been dominating the Switch, so I'm playing my PS4 games.

Yea, I am talking about a PS4 game (though perhaps also on Steam), not Octopath Traveler (which is also out on multiple platforms).

Got a promotion at work that I begin on Monday. I took some PTO this Friday and am just going to DIG IN on the new Horizon Zero Dawn. Absolutely psyched. I've been avoiding all reviews.

I'm very excited too. I absolutely loved the first game. Discovering the details of the story as I went through was extremely fascinating and rewarding.

I'm on total blackout though, until I get a ps5. Trying to ignore everything about it now.

Happy for you guys that are excited for the new horizon dawn. I didn’t play the first one but it looks pretty cool. Not sure if they’re for me so I’m trying to play games I missed like god of war, the hitman series on gamepass, and possibly mass effect since I hear such good things.

HZD is an absolute masterpiece. Not only was it probably the most technologically advanced and beautiful game I've ever played when it came out, it also probably has the best thought out plot basis of any game as well, which is revealed to the player very gradually over the course of the game with a few twists and turns. Those aspects are better than almost any movie or show I've watched in a long time. The game also rewards slow, careful play and exploration, and the enemies remained flat out scary for me to fight the entire game. On standard difficulty, it never became easy, even fully leveled up. If you're willing to take it slowly and not rush through anything, its a HOF game.

I'm currently playing the Mass Effect Legendary Edition myself, and am about 95% of the way through ME2. Its one of my favorite games of all time, and still holds up well a decade after I played it the first time. And this version is cleaned up and smoothed out for today's consoles and TVs. At the time, the graphics were cutting edge, and they're still better than a lot of games put out these days. ME2 and 3 are probably the best third-person cover based shooters I've ever played, and the story is deep and fun.

If anyone was ever thinking about looking at Edge of Eternity, I'd hold off for a while. I'm about 30 hours in, and the game crashes more than any other that I've ever played. Change of location cut scenes and boss battles virtually every time I encounter them the first time through, and various other points. It feels like I'm playing a PC game on the lowest possible graphical settings and there still isn't enough RAM to handle it. I'm going to hope that they patch it and come back when they do. Maybe it becomes like No Man's Sky, which stunk out of the box but eventually became a really solid game once they figured it out.

On the flip side, ME Legendary Ed. is technically top notch. Everything is as smooth and crisp as can be, and that has not always been my experience with remasters in the past. But I guess this is also the newest game I've played as a remaster too, so that factors in.

Back to Destiny 2 in lead-up to the Witch Queen (which comes out today), though I wasn't able to finish the whole Season of the Lost quest, unfortunately (got to step like 37 of 53). I picked it back up probably a week too late (though earlier would have been even better).

My Head Coach in Madden Franchise retired, effectively ending the franchise, which sucks, but probably puts that game to rest for me. Which is good, since the aforementioned Destiny, Elden Ring comes out Friday. and then I also started Horizon Forbidden West.

HFW is awesome. It looks great (though I am not certain if it is the best looking game overall; I think Ghosts of Tsushima may be better at some things at least), and plays well. There is so much to explore. I feel like I have played 20 hours and barely scratched the surface. I just had probably my first big surprise moment. I am sure there will be more.

I agree that Ghost of Tsushima is a better looking game. It's hard to compare though, such different worlds, one based in realism and the other sci-fi fantasy. I think GoT just has tighter direction, and more memorable changes in landscape thus far.

I had a really hard time calibrating everything to get GoT to look its best on my system. It was eventually great after a lot of experimentation, but I can't wait to eventually see it on the PS5.

More than anything, I've had issues with lighting and shadows with newer games. Interiors in GoT were so dark that it was almost unplayable until I messed with the settings of the game, the ps4, and the TV after reading online from people who had the same trouble.

Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 will be a pretty big difference than on your base PS4. Going from PS4 Pro to PS5 was basically just a framerate difference for me (which was welcome).

I'd say I'm about 1/4 to 1/3 through HFW and can say I'm enjoying it, but not as much, gameplay wise, as the first one.

I'm really liking how much busier the map is, either with machines or the towns/settlements, which feel much more alive and contribute to the scope of the map much more convincingly. I was hoping they'd work on making the world feel much more alive this way and they did. I cannot comment on the environment yet as I've only experienced about 1/3 of the map- which is crazy, considering I've outleveled the main and side quests about 10 levels now just through exploring. I'm not sure if the game is putting the Apex versions of the monsters in areas for me because of this gap or they're supposed to be mixed with the normal monsters.

The game is just really janky in some areas that I don't remember in the first one, which was fairly polished the first time I played it. Environment collision/platforming is not as tight, even with some fun new wrinkles thrown in- scaling a mountain in a straightforward manner is like trying to get a dog in a bathtub. The glider is nowhere near as snappy as Link's in BotW. There have been so many issues with me using the grappling hook and begging Aloy to climb up on the corresponding ledge. Sometimes she won't go at all- I'll have to disengage and re-grapple. Enemy pathing is downright lol to look at sometimes, especially with the flying enemies when they perch on a boulder and the game can't decide what a resting position looks like. These same enemies frequently get stuck on the side of mountain faces and such. Definitely needs some ironing out. The aim assist is so vital but, at the same time, so annoying. I might give it a go without it tonight and see if it's any better. For every weak point hit it helps you with, it will glue on to an enemy part that you know full well that you weren't even close to aiming at.

There's just a whole lot that can make the game less frustrating from a gameplay standpoint. If the first one was a 9 for me, this one is an 8 or 8.5 with how it stands right now.

I completed my trip through the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. I highly recommend it as a way to play the games both if you never have or want to go through them again. All three are seamlessly put together in one package with no issues, and as I said before, the graphics are honestly as good as the majority of new PS4 games, despite ME3 being ten years old this week.

Now, I'm itching to play more cover based third person shooters, but there just aren't that many around.

Also, I'm not a trophy hunter and just see them as a cool novelty most of the time, but the Platinum on ME2 is actually very reasonable to achieve in one playthrough. The only ones I didn't get were based on Biotic powers that I never use, since I play as a soldier. Its a similar story with ME1, although I somehow missed the trophy for completing the majority of the game, even though I did every single mission that I found.

With the hefty patch to the main game, and the big new DLC Dawn of Ragnarok, I'm jumping back into AC: Valhalla for the first time since the early Autumn of last year. Now I need to remember where I am and what I'm doing, lol.

I'm knee deep in HFW and CP2077. When I get tired of one I play the other. I unlocked the Double Jump legs in CP2077 and, while clunky sometimes, it offers a whole dimension of verticality. This is the first game where I'm not stealthing and that's an adjustment for me. I went all Technical (homing weapons, charging weapons, crafting, armor up) so I'm basically a tank.

Does anyone else find themselves trying to push the "discovery/6th sense" button in games that don't actually offer it? (R3 on Sony)

I've become so used to it in games like AC, the Witcher, HZD, ect. I kept trying to use it in Biomutant and Mass Effect also to locate anything that might be nearby.

Yea, I was trying to do it in Elden Ring (in addition to some other mis-pressed due to control differences).

On that note though, I beat HFW today, and while I didn't 100% it, I have done most everything I conceivably want to, so probably won't play much more (if at all) without an expansion.

So now I can at least return to Elden Ring and focus on mastering the controls.

Knee deep in Elden Ring now. About lvl 30 and I have fought the 2nd boss. Finding a ton of stuff just exploring. Hardly used my horse, Torrent.

I have managed to play a lot with friends, which has possibly increased my enjoyment. I need to summon two friends at once next.

I have pre-ordered Tiny Tina's Wonderland, but not sure how much I will play right away due to Elden Ring and Destiny 2 (plus it's a game I will play co-op with my wife). I also just found out Stranger in Paradise offers co-op, and my wife and I both like the numbered FF games, so that's one that I need to look into more as well.

I bought it. I played for 30 minutes. I suck at that game.

The draw distance in this generation is outstanding. A lot of fun just looking out in the distance and not just seeing a foggy view. It is very clear. Beautiful sunsets. Games are amazing during this period of time.

That's how I was (though more like 2 hrs) when I bought it. Have picked it back up now that I be HFW, and probably played like 16 hrs now (I am really not sure). You will likely get better as you get more experience.

MLB the Show 22 came out yesterday, and since it is on game pass, it would be a disservice to not play it. Started a RTTS character as that's the only mode I have interest in playing. It'll be a nice distraction from when I get burnt out during Elden Ring sessions (currently over 70 hrs played).

On a related note, I decided to buy The Show 21 yesterday because its on sale for $20. I only do franchise mode, so its not a big step up from the previous year, but I felt like I had the itch to play baseball.

I'm also playing the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion for AC Valhalla. Its pretty good, but I think I'm going to go back and forth between it and baseball and not get burnt out on it. I have over 220 hours total in Valhalla now, for one playthrough.

Finished HFW last week. While I thought it was very good overall, the cliffhanger ending was less satisfying than the end of HZD. On the other hand, they could expand your game map to global for the third game. Just cities and regions from select places around the world would be a lot of fun to see/explore.
