RELEASE THE KRACKEN!!! Never been a big hockey fan til now, but I married a Canadien girl, and my daughters are actually into it. Seattle has created an amazing product even before opening night tonight. Big time buzz all over Washington, Idaho, and Oregon for pro hockey coming back here. And I like the Rum too so... Who's your team? Lightning going to 3 peat?
Congratulations Kraken on your first ever win! Team actually looks legit. Goalie is one of the best in the league. They play a fast attack offense and have a smothering D. Should be a fun season
The drive for 5 is alive! Let’s go Isles! Having future HOFERS at coach and GM is something no other team can boast. Feels so good to finally have competent leaders and ownership in place again. Psyched for our new arena in a week and a half. I loved the Nassau Coliseum even though it was dumpy compared to other arenas but I feel like I grew up there to an extent. But they’ve been trying to get a new arena literally since the early 80’s during the dynasty years.
Happy to see Eberle lighting it up for y’all. Wasn’t upset to see his 5.5m cap hit gone when we needed new contracts for Pelech and Pulock on defense but he was always a good 2nd line type who can do a little more on the PP with more ice time and creativity. He was never going to be a main focus for NyI with Barzal, Nelson and Lee leading things
Hockey on Television takes a while to get used to. In person if can be great if you go to the right arena (Tampa home games are great).
Dreams of 1967 coming back to haunt again? Don’t they have maple leaf fan therapy sessions? I heard they give a group discount It’s ok, I’m an islanders fan and we had a tremendously disappointing season and need a 1st line wing for Barzal in the worst way and imo a 2nd line wing to give Nelson more support.
Mike Bossy is severely underrated these days. All trust in Lou. You definitely need to get Barzal some help. Can we interest you in Johnny T?
Im not sure Pajama Boy is the right answer for the Isles as we need wingers not C's and I'm sure his skating and defensive zone awareness havent gotten any better lol. I was thinking more along the lines of Filip Forsberg or Johnny G since we don't have a deep farm system and shouldn't be using the few prospects we do have in trades without clearing a few contracts off the books first and theyre both FA. Lou's got some work to do for sure but yall let the wrong front office guy go keeping Dubas over him. What is Toronto going to do in net? Mike Bossy was how old in 1967? Like 8?
Dubas built a team that could have won any of the last three years while addressing key weaknesses each offseason making slight improvements along the way. Can't fault him for that, not to mention the window isn't closed. In net there's been some FAs thrown around including Fleury. Won't be Campbell though. I am not convinced he is good enough to win a cup anyway. There's zero chance Lou trades for JT lol, that was in jest. I'm happy to have him but damn he's expensive.
Maple leafs fan for sure. There is a huge level of entitlement among that fan base which leads to even more disappointment every year: -With every loss, it was the fault of the refs up in Toronto. Why do the Refs and the League have it out for Toronto? -Every draft pick they make, it is a brilliant draft pick. -Every prospect they have is miles better than other teams prospects taken at the same point in the draft. -Their management team, until failures pile up, they are better than every other management team. -Any signing the Maple Leafs make...they got a GREAT deal because it is obvious the free agent came to Toronto because, well, who WOULDN'T want to play for Toronto? And despite all that, they can't make any progress.
Toronto has to be the most hated team leaguewide. I get it, but a lot of the stuff said about the team and fans is overblown and often exaggerated. But seriously, who WOULDN'T want to play for Toronto?
Or Sabres fan! Zero titles ever. (Though I still think Brett Hull’s goal was illegal). Really their best era was right after expansion in the early-mid 70s (with the French Connection line of Gil Perrault, Richard Martin (RIP), and Rene Robert. I am also a Leafs fan. Going back to the days of Sittler, Salming, McDonald. I pretty much root for the Sabres and any 5 of the original 6 (excluding the Bruins); and out west I still root for the Oilers to be good. But have a particular affinity for Toronto and Montreal after Buffalo.
As a Canadian living in Toronto, I hate all the other Canadian teams except Montreal - I'm a fan of both (don't ask lol). The rest? F them. They'd rather see anyone win over Toronto, so I wish them all to lose myself, especially Vancouver. No Canadian allegiances here.
I can see as a Sabres fan it is frustrating, but I do think they are one of the Better fan bases in the NHL. Every year the ratings come out for the Stanley cup. Usually the 2 highest rated cities are from the teams playing in the cup. But something like 6 of the last 8 years, after the teams playing in the Cup finals, Buffalo as a city/metro area is where the highest ratings come. The team has been awful, AWFUL the last decade, so after that long I can see why the Arena is half empty. But you don't even need a winning team, give them a competitive team, even a .500 team, and when that happens they have a waiting list for Season tickets. Minnesota is underrated as an NHL fan base also. No one says they are a bad fan base, but they might be right up there with Buffalo as one of the top ones in the league as far as US cities. You have your casual fans, but they have a lot of fans up in Minneapolis where Hockey is their life.
Totally. Sabres have a great fan base. In the 70s-80s, it was near impossible to go to a game unless you knew someone. Thankfully I did and got to go some. If they become competitive it will amp up again.
Nah Torontos like 4th on my haterade list. The Rags always get the top spot for obvious reasons. Pitt, just cause I can't stand Crosby or their fan base Washington because I still hate Dale Hunter for his cheap shot on Turgeon in 93.
I don't think the team in toronto is the most hated. The players on the team aren't awful, they have no notorious cheap shot artists, no guys who are over the top arrogant. It is the fanbase that is the issue there. I know its splitting hairs and a lot of us form our allegiances based on the fanbase, not the team. But in Toronto, 99% of the hatred for the Leafs is the fanbase, not the team itself.
I think you got a steal in samsonov if you can fix him. At one point he was ranked right there with Carter Hart, Shisterkan and Ilya Sorokin as the best goalie prospects in the world when they all coming up through the ranks. I like him a lot more then Murray if you have any hopes of having a strong goalie. Murray’s best days imo are done. edit: also I just took my 2nd ****sterkan of the day
Day 3 of FA and my Isles are the only team not to spend a dime in FA. I know we tried for Gaudreau but whiffed. Kadri or Nino Neiddereiter would be a fit on Barzals wing. Still would leave us enough space to sign Dobson and Romanov and Bellows.
I always liked Kadri, and he wasn't that vilified here in TO either for that matter. He'd be great on the Isles. The more you watch him play the more you appreciate his game. Happy he got a cup. Johnny Hockey going to CLB was a slight shock.
At least you aren't as bad as Philly or Vegas. I have no idea what those 2 teams are thinking with the moves they made in the past 12 months or so, Philly is the worst tho.
My isles are facing an elimination game….but 1 more strong period and we will have a game 6 on Thursday

Congrats to any Vegas Golden Knights fans. Also, if anyone had a doubt that hockey players are the toughest pro athletes on the planet, consider the following from the Florida Panthers: Matthew Tkachuk suffered a broken sternum in game 3, finished game 3 (scored the tying goal) and played game 4 before sitting out game 5. Defenseman Aaron Ekblad suffered a broken foot in round 1, finished that out and didn't miss a game. If that wasn't enough he had 2 separated shoulders and a torn oblique muscle. I think he's going to need a full body cast. Any other sport, those injuries have players out for months if not the season.
