I finished the second season of The Mandalorian, and really enjoyed every bit of it. Top notch, and I can't wait not only for Season 3, but for the other three Star Wars shows coming to Disney+. They're doing it right.

    I watched Star Wars: Visions

Since I love anime, I really enjoyed it. I could find something to appreciate about each one. Especially The Twins since I love studio Trigger.

I do hope that "The Ninth Jedi" and "Lop and Ocho" become a series. I want to see what happens.

I just finished watching The Book of Boba Fett. Its absolutely must watch if you enjoy The Mandalorian, and given that its front and center Star Wars canon now, I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys the SW universe.

Without too many spoilers, I liked the overall arc of the show. It was written and directed well by people who clearly love SW, and its time period in between RoTJ and TWA gives them a fair bit of leeway to work with. I did feel that the show went deeper than they needed to in the first episodes to explain where Boba was mentally and emotionally, and they stayed really blurry with the timeline in the process.

Also, the casting of Temeura Morrison as the lead makes logical sense in the fact that he played Jango in Attack of the Clones, and Boba and the rest of the clones would look just like him, Morrison (60) is much older than Boba would be in the SW timeline at this point (about 45). And while Morrison is fit and strong for a 60 year old man, he's a good bit heavier and bulkier than Boba was shown to be in the original films. While he did a good job, I still think that casting someone else in the role would have probably been the better move.

In the end, the show is mostly a lot of fun. But I'm really hoping that future SW shows and movies leave Tatoine behind. Its just too much. They have an entire galaxy to work with and are still stuck on Luke's miserable hometown 45 years later.

I had so much fun in that last episode.

Overall I found the show entertaining enough, until the final episode which was just super fun.

The last episode was really good, I absolutely agree. I also really enjoyed Episode 5, which of course was largely a departure from the rest of the show. Bryce Dallas Howard has done a terrific job as a director with SW, and I find that I enjoy her episodes a lot. They have a style and a feel to them.

I found everything with the Tuskin Raiders really good. I heard they brought on some native advisers to help with that part and I think it showed.

The stuff with taking over Jabba's establishment didn't make much sense to me. I mean, I understood what was going on, and his motivation to work for himself in a better way. However, he mostly talked about what he didn't want, instead of what he did want. And other than a protection racket, he didn't seem much interested in crime. I felt the show had too much Fennec saying, "This is what you should do now that you are a mob boss." and Boba saying, "I don't want to do that."

I get that he wants to be his own boss, but, I needed something that showed the operation, how they made money to pay people, have actual enforcers instead of just 5 people at first, and give me a reason to believe that any other crime family would take him seriously.

Yes, the lack of actual manpower was a strange choice. And add to that the heavy reliance on the weird cyberpunk group who stood out like sore thumbs in the situation. They would have made sense on Courisant or another planet, but for them to have always lived on Tatoine, and to have the clothes and tech that they do, with no explanation, was a bizarre choice.

I didn't mind them. I thought they made sense because it helped explain how he saved Fennec's life. Though it would have been nice to flesh them out a bit. And instead of having two Gamorrean guards, just have an army of them, but maybe just show only two at a time. They seemed pretty useless in the original Star Wars. I am fine with a bunch of expendable pig monsters. At least I could believe that the Boba Fett faction could do, anything, if they had a small army of pig monsters with axes. And why they wanted people with guns to join when things got hairy.

Finished BoBF, mostly agree with the sentiments here. I'd add that while I did enjoy it, it felt kind of low-budget, especially the fight scenes which required gobs of disbelief suspension. They developed slowly and unrealistically. Until the end, Fett mostly seemed a chump overly reliant on Fennec who at times also went from 0 to hero with astounding speed.

While I like seeing the Mando (who actually feels like the character Lucas wanted Fett to be lol), having so much of his and Grogu's story in Fett's universe was not a great choice and should have been saved for Mando S3. Seeing Cobb Vanth again was neat, and
    Cad Bane
    was rad and well done

Overall, a fun dip into the SW underworld, though it felt like they didn't really know what they wanted to do with Fett. Looking forward to the next Mando series.

PS: They did the Gamorrean's dirty lol.

My favorite part of Fett's and Fennec's relationship was Fennec saying, "If you want to be a crime lord you should do this." The Fett saying, "I don't want to do that."

I still have no idea what Fett want's to do other than be a sheriff or protection or something.

You can't be a crime boss without doing crimes and crime is too general a term to make a living as a crime boss to run an little empire.

    What is he doing?

Yeah they never got into his motivation for taking over from Jabba, or what exactly he wants to do/establish. He's kind of painted in this benevolent light, like he's a reformed bad guy. Buuuuuuut like dude, you're just straight up running a protection racket. He's a benevolent dictator lol. Really it felt like it became a vehicle to advance the Mando story rather than a Boba story. It was fun (some of the painfully unrealistic fights and "oh, he survived that. Huh" type moments aside) but it wasn't particularly a good story or investing us in the character(s).

More like, "here is some SW stuff. Go play amongst yourselves while you wait for Obi-Wan" lol.

100% agreed. I felt nothing when the pig monsters died. It was shot in a way that I was supposed to care, but I didn't. I only vaguely understood the characters of two of the rainbow cyborg biker gang. Didn't care when any of the others got shot.

The only characters I cared about that died were the Tusken Raiders. IMO, that should have been the entire show. After they died Fett goes all John Wick on the crime families. Then have him decide that he wants to protect that area after the people become thankful for him and make him a pseudo sheriff, then do the attack from the squid monsters who were behind and then learn they were the kingpin behind the Raiders' death.

Give me simple storytelling I can follow. To do this flashback nonsense you need characters who are written in a way I give a **** about them or amazing writing. And this show had neither.

Though I was 100% there for the last episode of Star Wars nonsense.

I am fine with them staying on Tattione if they also ventured out into other parts of Star Wars. Disney limits itself a lot. They could be telling many Star Wars stories but just limits them to every few months.

Yeah, but the planet sucks. That's the whole original point. It's a miserable wasteland where they hid Luke where no one would find him. He couldn't wait to get the hell out of there, which was the obvious call. After episode 4, that should have been the end of it, imo.

I think it just shows how immature Luke is.

Wherever people are from they think it sucks as a kid. He was just some whiny punk kid. What does he know about an entire planet. Jawas and Tusken Raiders were in the first movie. That is some exciting stuff. Plus it is the perfect place to do Western type stories. There are a lot of stories in miserable wastelands.

How are we feeling about the Obi-Wan series? I've been wary of it as I thought the TV format was a good way to explore the universe without getting bogged down in Chosen One stuff, but the trailer has me interested. They brought back the Inquisitors from the Rebels series. Unless they do something twisty, I feel the story will be pretty straightforward and predictable, but if they execute it well enough it could be a pretty fun ride.

One thing that I'd like to see is Kenobi handing the Inquisitors their ***. He was always one of the greatest Jedi duelists and lightsaber combat masters, and his dispatching of Maul in Rebels was quick, efficient and ruthless. He will have to hide and play games with the Inquisitors for awhile as he tried to stay under Vader's radar and keep Luke hidden, but I definitely want to see him kick some serious butt. Maybe face his own dark side moments as he gets a little too close to vengeance and anger.

Obi-Wan has long been one of my favorite characters. Growing up, I always loved Alec Guinness' portrayal of him in the original films, and then Ewan MacGregor did such a fantastic job with it in the prequels. I wanted an Obi-Wan movie as soon as Disney took over and started talking about expanding the SW universe, but I'm very happy to get the series.

I've never watched the animated SW shows, but the inquisitors were part of Jedi Fallen Order, and it was a cool aspect of that game. I'm intrigued to see how they incorporate that into the show, and really everything that they do with it.

Kenobi was not what I had hoped that it would be, and it was not nearly as good as I'd hoped either. The show does get better as it goes, so if you watch, don't just abandon hope after the first couple. But the narrative is filled with strange choices, and the production values are sometimes shockingly bad.

you-iz-crazy my friend. I thought it was the best of the star wars TV series (and I loved the Mandalorian). I think the Mandalorian had a much better supporting cast than Kenobi, but it pretty had to in order to be a good series. Like you, Obi-wan was always top 2-3 character for me. I wonder if you not seeing the animated clone wars played a role. For me, the clone wars series elevated Obi-wan and Anakin's relationship to another level.

Agree. It felt like someone watched Ep. 4, had the standard thought of "man, it would have been cool if they had the tech to do a proper lightsaber duel between Vader and Kenobi" and decided to build a fairly ham-fisted plot specifically to do that.

It had some cool moments, but overall the show was just kind of disjointed and messy. The plot was goofy and routinely made no sense and Kenobi regularly felt like a background character or vehicle to explore OTHER characters. He almost never felt like the focus of the series. I said it elsewhere, but it felt kind of like the cartoons but it was billed as a super serious look into the life of Kenobi, the solo guardian of Luke. Speaking of cartoons, I enjoyed Kenobi's like 2 minute "cameo" in Rebels more than this whole show.

It's not unwatchable, and I didn't hate it, but it was a disappointment.

Perhaps so. And if the show's intended audience was people who have watched and liked the animated shows, then maybe I'm just not who they're catering to then. But as someone who loves the live action movies (well, until the last two), my thought with new SW media is that the prime directive always needs to be ensuring that the continuity with the old movies isn't challenged or messed with. And this show boldy did that time and again, which made me cringe.

One of the prime points of New Hope is that Kenobi has been hanging out on Tatoine for ages, mostly alone, known by few. Its a speck of dirt way out of the way from anything important. Episode 1 challenged that by making it Anakin's homeworld, a choice that was completely unnecessary, and obviously made it far less of a one in a million chance that they'd be found by the Empire. That's always bugged me. And then with this series, again, they have three powerful lieutenants of Vader here to cause trouble right where Luke is living. How likely is that? Unless Vader sensed that Obi Wan was there, why would they even show up, where there are countless other places to look, and Vader hates Tatoine anyways.

I would have preferred that the show be about Kenobi's time and adventures in isolation, as he kept one eye on Luke from a distance, meanwhile helping other people as they needed it. But I think that the fact that the SW universe can't escape Tatoine and based large sections of The Mandalorian and Boba Fet there probably ruined that, as they didn't just want to do more of the same with this series.

I get the part about Tatooine being overused in the series, but that's more applicable to Mandalorian than it is Obi-Wan. It's not like they knew he was there. The Inquisitors spent 10 years searching the outer rim planets looking for hiding Jedi. The show just picks up when they reach Tatooine looking for another Jedi hiding there. and I disagree that this series disrupted the continuity. Most of the storyline is canon, either in animated series or comics/novels.

For all of the jokes about how much Kenobi is going to age over the next 8 years, its not even close to poor Beru! She goes from a beautiful woman in her late 30s to about 70! That Tatooine sun is harsh.

I thought the show was fine. The only thing that really bothered me was it was too dark. The lighting was terrible.

I liked how it showed Kenobi being a broken man. And the story on how he started to believe in himself again.

One thing that makes me enjoy Star Wars is realizing that it has always not made sense and is kind of stupid. Once in a while, it gets me, like in Rogue One. I still don't understand how people like that movie. IT makes no sense and is very stupid. I think it is because I think all the characters other than the droid suck.

But once I just watch it as a space fantasy made for kids and the fact that coolness is more important than realism, I think it is fine.

Plus the idea that Kenobi would just sit on the planet for 20 years is pretty dumb. Of course he did other things. TBH, I think it was stupid in the prequels that they made it such a big deal that he was just there watching over Luke than just being there because he just wanted to be away. However again, Star Wars has always been kinda dumb.

You and I could just not feel more differently about Rogue One. I was just thinking the other day that other than the three original movies, its absolutely and without question my favorite thing Star Wars related. It looks right, it feels right, it fits right in and tells its story without any disruption to the original movies. Its exactly what I want new SW media to be.

Its also, IMO, an extremely well made movie.

I hate it. I hate it so much. It ruins light speed. It ruins Darth Vader. It ruins Leia. It ruins the rebellion. It makes no sense. The entire movie makes zero sense. Not in the Star Wars doesn't make sense, but in what people do and how they act sense. The entire beach base makes zero sense.

The rebellion is built on hope? In the last scene the rebellion tried to kill your dad for no good reason!

Edit: It is so weird to me how people just love to nitpick the hell out of Star Wars but for some reason Rogue One gets a pass.

I was so bored. I cared nothing about anyone other than that robot.

I liked Rogue One and Solo better than the prequels and the sequels. My only problem with Rogue One was that it had too many throwaway characters. I'm really not interested in Andor because the character was forgettable in the movie. A lot of people outright hated Solo, but I was fine with it. It was fun enough and fit within the universe, IMO. The prequels were a wasted opportunity to build on the original trilogy with simple fun movies. They brought too much subtext and made politics too much of a central focus. Ultimately, they were three boring movies that haven't aged well on recent rewatches.

The sequels were just bad. Force Awakens, was interesting enough to pique my interest, but it was really just a point-by-point retelling of SW: ANH. Last Jedi was garbage and I couldn't wait for it to end. Rise of Skywalker was ill-conceived and made me feel like I wasted 40 years by investing in something that came to a completely BS and unsatisfying conclusion.

I do like Mando and BOBF. Favreau and Filoni get it. I also like most of the animated content, even though I'm not caught up on most of them. Looking forward to season 2 of The Bad Batch.

You talking about the "pig monsters" in this thread is KILLING ME with laughter. They saved Fett multiple times...they were probably the two most loyal characters in the entire universe. Now, I didn't cry or anything either, but still...why all the pig monster hate? LMAO, it's just too funny.

Give me a scene to actually get to know them and their motivations. Do something with them. They just felt like they were there. I know nothing of their culture unless the culture of the pig monsters is just to guard. The only thing I know about them is that they didn't want to die so they worked for Boba Fett.

Why are they loyal? I guess I don't find, "I guess I will work for you so I don't die," as loyalty.

I don't hate pig monsters. Some of my best friends are pig monsters. It was just forced pig monster diversity being shoved down my throat. All part of the pig monster agenda. (last part is sarcasm)

At one point, wasn't Boba almost dead and they brought him to the healing chamber? That would have been the ideal time for a pig monster revolt to take the throne. But they didn't, they healed him right up anyway. I thought that was pretty darn loyal.

What cracked me up was how scared everyone was of the pig monsters, yet they basically got punked by Boba in the 1st episode they met him (trying to make this as spoiler free as possible). But that goes back to the earlier comment, can you just grow more pig monsters? I don't know, but they're useful to have around. I bet they'd eat quite a bit though.

I do agree though that the sand people were way cooler than the pig monsters. At least those Tuskans had some personality and knew how to throw a party. Plus, their guns were like 7 feet long for no apparent reason.

The Tuskans had personality and culture. I enjoyed them a lot. I kind of wish the entire series was just Dancing With Boba Fett.

Yea, but then Boba Fett's friend would probably kill them. They were just looking out for #1. I think. I don't know. That's the problem. They were just blank slates.

I agree that the pig monsters weren't scary and people were afraid of them. They didn't even get a super bad *** scene or something.

I love Rogue One and am looking forward to it. Dupree, probably not.

You are correct. I haven't even watched the trailer.

So Andor looks like the titular (heh) character Cassian Andor is essentially a vehicle used to help tell more of the beginnings of the rebellion. So in essence, it's not just about him or an in depth look at the character so much as using a known character (with a solid - imo - actor) to help expand the rebellion's early phase. Maybe like the Bad Batch or Rebels cartoons. There was lots of shots and talk in the trailer about the Empire starting to squeeze people, but also themselves already starting to get fat and happy while the regular folks suffer. Andor is one guy among many who are getting fed up and beginning to take action.

I'm not sure it's fair (good or bad) to lump it in with the specific movie and story that was Rogue One based on what I saw in the prequel. I think that while it is technically a prequel, it will also stand on it's own. It's also hard to go wrong with Stellan Skarsgard. That rough and raggedy voice and look fit in very well to the SW themes, even if it looks like he is on the wealthy side and a leading recruiter.

Personally, I like stories that get away from the Jedi/Sith dynamic and Skywalker centric stories and really explore the universe a bit. I do recall some of your criticisms of Rogue One as being things I personally didn't agree with but can understand the theory and viewpoint you presented. That said, I'm not sure the show will share the same flaws. I'd say the trailer is worth seeing at least.

I'm with you there. I've wanted shows and movies set in the SW universe that step mostly away from the Skywalker family dynamic for years. When Disney first got them, it seemed like that was the way that it might go, but obviously it didn't pan out for whatever reasons. Hopefully we do get a lot more of it, though. But set before and after the main movies.

I understand. I just didn't like the character in Rogue One. If it gets good reviews I will check it out. I enjoy characters and motivations and I really felt that lacking in Rogue One. I never believed Andor as a character.

That is my biggest criticism of Rogue One was the only character I felt that was written well was the droid.

I have heard good things about Andor in the sense that it is about the current political climate so if the reviews are good, I will watch it.
