Nope. Incorrect. I said he had an amazing 4th quarter and a bad 1st half.

He very much needs to find consistency. Do it against the Bills, stay healthy a whole season, and it will go a long way in "Tua haters" buying in.

I agree but that goes both ways. We need to see him in this offense for more than just a few games. People shouldn't have been calling for his head at halftime and people shouldn't be doing it if he isn't good vs Buffalo. We need to see if he improve no matter what in THIS offense.

But that means not prioritizing wanting to be right

You literally said "he had an impressive quarter taking advantage of a Ravens defense not paying attention to Hill" is as underhanded a statement as it gets.

    Cut the crap, babe.

Hill beat the defense twice sweetheart. He was wide open by 5+ yards. It was really bad defense. Tua still took advantage, but it doesn't change the fact how bad the defense was on those two bombs.

Disagree. People rightfully calling for his head at half after that terrible performance and after scoring only 13 against the Patriots. He doesn't have the rope with fans that you think he deserves. He needs to earn that rope with consistent elite play.

Except that it would have been an obviously horrendous decision if Tua has been yanked and if Flores was the coach that would have happened.

Hill is an elite wide receiver. He is going to be open by 5-10 yards alot this season. And, it won't be because of the "defense sucking".

Ok, one play was a busted coverage. Hill and Waddle will put that pressure on defenses all season. God forbid Tua takes advantage of that.

The amazing thing to me? How quick that “he’s a one read guy” thing died when he got exactly ONE MORE SECOND of time to scan the field. Full progressions, shifting in the pocket, feeling pressure and extending and reseting the play, all because his offensive line may have moved from abhorrent to average.

I'm not saying he should have been yanked. I'm saying fans have the right of being upset and angry at Tua after that 1st half. Tua's rope isn't long. Rightfully. If people call for Tua's head, it's warranted. He needs to prove otherwise by playing elite with this talent and needs to stay healthy. If you want rope in this league, you have to earn it. Tua hasn't.

This is such a stupid straw man and a shift of not only goal posts but the line of scrimmage. People are saying he played elite when you and others said he could not. Not that he is now elite, case closed. Tua supporters have said he is developing and could be the answer if he continues to do so. You and others have said, nope impossible. That games shows it's possible. My proof is this thread. Read the posts. I know it hurts to admit you were wrong. Tua can play elite. He just did. Will he do it consistently enough to have a chance to win championships? We shall see.

Not really. All this game is so far is an outlier. Jared Goff had 450+ 5+ TD games. That doesn't make him elite, or maybe it does for you?

This game doesn't make it possible he can be elite. That makes no sense. Bad QBs can have elite games. Tua's tools still hold him back.

It's a step in the right direction. It was stated many times he would never, ever be able to put up a stat line like that and lead a team back down three touchdowns. He still hasn't started a full two seasons of games and can be argued was held back by incompetent coaching early in his career.

Calling for his head clearly means remove him. If he gets benched its over for him. Criticism isn't the same thing that is fair but it also needs to be rational.

Where was it stated he could never have a great game? I didn't state that. Bad QBs can sometimes have great games. Ultimately, a lack of tools and injury history will hold Tua back in becoming an elite QB. Having an elite game doesn't equate to having elite QB potential.

No. It clearly doesn't. I was calling for his head at halftime, but that doesn't mean I wanted to see Bridgewater. Don't paint everyone with the same brush.

Not a strawman. Jared Goff having an amazing game doesn't give him elite QB potential. The same limitations still exist.

Damn. On ignore now? What a loss for me.

The joke all offseason is that Tua wouldn't be able to throw it to a wide open Tyreek Hill.

Now it is, "Tua sucks because he was throwing to a wide open Tyreek Hill"

And I never said you did. I said people were calling for his head and that clearly by that I meant should be benched. My point is fans were over the top and irrational with the criticism. We were always going to need to see more no matter how that game went.

Seriously, am I the only one who thinks there are some Dolphins fans who swore at the TV screen when Waddle caught the game winner? It feels like a lot of us prefer to win as long as somebody else is the MVP. If you witnessed what's likely a top-5 all-time performance in a game by a Dolphins QB and your first response is "Yeah, but...", then you're more invested in your narrative than you are in rooting for your team. You can admit that what we saw is at least encouraging.

It was just one game, true. We need to see consistent performance; also true. Tua still has a ways to go to prove he can be a top QB. We can all agree with that. But if you're more invested in your cred than you are with winning games and being excited for the TEAM's potential, then I don't know what's wrong with you. You're more concerned with being right than being a winner.

I'd hate to think that some folks are hoping we lay an egg next week, but I definitely get the feeling they wouldn't have a problem with it.

Are fans usually pretty rational in game threads? Fans are reactionary during a game. I don't find what fans say good or bad during a game to be a true reflection of their thoughts. It's emotions.

Yeah.. not sure what the argument is about here. Tua had elite level performance in one game. Doesn't mean he's elite, just that he did something we haven't seen him do before: carry the team and do so with high volume passing.

If someone disagrees with that take, then yeah I'd argue against it. But the discussion above seems to be going in circles.

A lot of fans (and trolls) were excited that the team stunk it up in the first half because special teams lapses and FUBAR defense aside, any loss is going to be pinned on Tua. IMO, that's fair enough as long as he gets credit for the wins.

To be fair, I think Jackson finished with a perfect passer rating. Doesn't that make him MVP?

Jackson entered the 4th with a perfect passer rating. He didn't finish that way. He ended with 142.6. Perfect is 158.3 (which btw is an artificial ceiling.. the formula allows you to go higher but it becomes so distorted that they artificially cap it at 158.3).

Okay, good to know- I never looked and the announcers never said. I knew he didn't throw any picks so I wasn't sure if it ended perfect or not. In any case, he did have an MVP type of day...it just so happened that his team lost because he couldn't complete a drive in the 4th.

Literally NO ONE is arguing that Tua shouldn't take advantage. I think what is being stated is that it isn't impressive throwing to wide open receivers, other than it's an impressive offense.

It's awesome to watch, yes. I love it! It leads to wins, yes. I love that! But it isn't something that is a result of QB ability.

I think that's an unrealistic way of looking at NFL offenses. Only the Hall of Fame QBs can put up big yardage without elite WRs.

And it’s only going to get better. Don’t know how many of you remember…there used to be 6 preseason games. This last game would have been the original last preseason dress rehearsal.

The offense is only going to get better and more dangerous.

I cannot off hand think of a Hall of Fame QB that didn't have great WRs. At least not since I've paid attention to the NFL, so since the 80s.

Yeah I know what he was saying. That's why I pointed out the several year history of all three. A game like that is less an outlier of the other two, than it is for Tua. So, when Tua has a big quarter, I'm excited. Man, I want to believe that Tua is that guy. That quarter has given me a glimmer of hope. But a similar performance be one of the other two, yes, it would be more of a confirmation because they have already shown greatness relatively often.

Anyway...I want more of the 4th quarter Tua. He's shown it. I want to see it more. If he does then I eat all the crow, and revel in it.

Well here we go now...It's gonna be the receivers that make him look good. The new narrative will be "I wanna see Tua do it throwing to undrafted free agent receivers for a year before I believe in him." As if he wasn't pretty much already doing that the last two seasons. He had Waddle yeah, but Parker and Preston Williams were always injured. Otherwise, it was Mack Hollins (a special teamer), Lynn Bowden, the shell of Albert Wilson, and Isiah Ford.
I see nothing wrong with having talent at the wide receiver position. Most good to great quarterbacks HAVE that at their disposal. The golden boy Herbert has Keenan Allen, and Mike Williams...Hell he walked onto that roster with two stud receivers already in place...And Austin Ekeler....And a good offensive line. Talk about being perfectly insulated. We've finally gotten Tua some help, so hopefully it keeps paying off. I was ready to throw the towel in Sunday on him, but he did EXACTLY what he needed to do to get my confidence in him back.

Why did you leave out like 6 years of Brady's career? I mean?m, he made D Branch s rich man, and he got to throw to Troy Brown. Lol

For reals, though, the biggest benefit to Brady in those years was undoubtedly Gronk. Breasts r numbers across the board were elite when playing with Gronk, and incredibly average or below without.
