I think Tua and Tyreek still need to work on their timing.

Yeah, he's getting the deep ball to him, but in practice and in these first 2 games, Hill has had to slightly slow up and reach back to catch it. Hill's speed is so impressive that he can created tons of separation and even has time to slow up if need be to make the catch, but Tua has got to get that ball out in front of him. In tight coverage, and with better teams, those balls get picked.

That's because Tua puts too much air under the ball on his deep throws. It takes longer to get there than if he were to throw it on a flatter trajectory with more velocity. This is due to lack of arm strength. There is nothing much Tua can do to remedy this, other than throwing it sooner to a specific spot, instead of waiting for the route to develop. He is not going to get a stronger arm anytime soon.

Stronger armed QBs can throw it on a rope with flatter trajectory which makes it easier to hit the reciever in stride. Tua does not have the arm strength to do that. He is a spot thrower.

A couple of more long touchdowns and it will evolve to that he is an "opportunistic passer".

Hill literally outruns throws. To catch him deep, you need to throw the ball early in anticipation of him catching up to it. I'd imagine the option is whether to throw it and slow him down or to take a chance and take a chance on an overthrow. For a guy who runs go routes, he catches a lot of balls by facing the throw. In this compilation, there are very few over-the-shoulder and in-stride receptions (the best of which occurs at 6:02). I have a feeling Tua and he will sync up in the next few games.

Go and watch how often Mahomes "under threw" him as well causing Hill to slow down.

The pass was 58 yards in the air and over the defenders, I've got no issue with it. Neither did Kurt Warner.

A slight underthrow is much easier to catch than a slight overthrow. Tyreek's first touchdown was a catchable ball that would have taken a Plasticman effort to deflect the pass.

    Interesting fact.
Mahomes has attempted 2,500 passes in his now 6th year in the league.

He has only EVER completed 5 passes that travelled over 57 yards in the air.

This whole debate on 55+ Yard ball placement is laughable.

Mahomes and Herbert are NOT hittting guys in stride with 60 yard bombs every other weekend like people seem to think.
More like once a year, SMH!!!

It's not just about how far you can throw it, it's about how much velocity you can throw it with while maintaining accuracy at longer distances. Tua's accuracy and velocity on longer throws down the field and outside the numbers is nowhere near that of Mahomes or Herbert or Allen. He throws up floaters that take a lot longer to get there, regardless if it's 55 yards or 65 yards, or 45 yards.

    Also while I’m ranting….
Have you thought logistically what goes in to putting work on this type of ‘deep timing’ go routes.

So you want to put in what like 20 reps in practice? To genuinely work on ‘timing’ Hill has to be running at game speed.

So Hill has to run a max out 60 yard dash 20 times in practice ? Never going to happen.

Tua has to torque his shoulder/elbow on his throwing arm to max capacity 20 times?

After the practice rep, Hill has to jog all the way back to the line to get ready again? It would take like 40 minutes to practice 20 reps.

Seems inefficient to use 30+ mins of practice on the lowest percentage play, that makes up maybe 2% of your offense.

Yeah, especially when Hill is so fast, the defender is trying so hard to catch up and can't turn his head to make a play on the ball. He gets 5-10 yards beyond coverage and outruns a lot of potential PBUs.

Did you watch Warners breakdown of the game? He basically destroys everything you said. I think he might just know a little more than you.

Yes, nice breakdown, Tua made good decisions in the second half. But the video breakdown was obviously done with the specific aim of countering Tua haters. He emphasized the good parts and left out or minimized the bad parts. If you really think Tua only had one mistake or bad play in that game, I have a bridge to sell you.

To be fair Mahomes underthrew Hill on a lot of deep throws. Hell the most famous one was the super bowl against the 49ers, that was literally like catching a punt.

Look guys, so many of you are flipping out, “he under threw Hill”. Personally I don’t think so but…whatever. So what if he under threw Hill, the fact there was so much separation between Hill and the defenders AND Tagovailoa OVER threw them is going to result in one thing…a big completion. And the Hill and Waddle’s speed, those big completions are probably going to end up as a TD.

    So what’s your problem here?

I think they're working on their timing still but I think every QB is working on their timing with their main receivers. I don't think partnerships like Brady and Gronk happen by accident.

Mahomes usually hit Hill in stride, and he could make those long throws even while on the run and off platform. Tua just can't make those throws.

Not to say Tua completely sucks, but he is just not a strong armed QB. See highlight below, first play Mahomes throws it 70 air yards and hits Hill in stride against triple coverage. Also take a look at the throw at the 3:46 mark, 54 air yards while on the run and hits him in stride. Tua just can't make that type of throw on the run.

Hill literally slowed down for the ball to come down on the first pass. That's the same thing he did last week. And it's another example of what I meant when I said he ran so far past defenders that they couldn't even turn their heads around to make a play on the ball.

Yes, but that was a 70 yard pass, not the 56 yarder that Tua threw, and he still didn't have to slow down as much. At 56 yards mahomes would have thrown it with a flatter trajectory and more velocity than Tua did. Putting too much air under the ball means it takes longer to get there, hence why he has to slow down. Putting more air under it is a good way to throw it as far as you can, but you are sacrificing accuracy and time to target.

All i see is wide open receivers all the time so jaylen and hill can keep over running all they want. I think we should expect a big game from Cedric soon..
