He's thrown 19 total passes this year, so no much to go on. I doubt it works in the Texans favor though.

I swear to the creator that this happens to us more than anyone and when these rookies / backups play against us they look like future hall of famers! Hopefully this doesn’t happen this time and we maintain 1st place!!

Coach McDaniel needs to bring in Admiral Ackbar as a special motivational speaker for this game.

I saw this debate on twitter and I just struggle with that. We are a massively superior team. The Texans are easily the worst and most talent deficient team in the league. We are coming off a bye. There is no excuse to not just drop these fools in a dumpster. Looking ahead, it's a west coast trip against a non-conference and non-divisional opponent so it's not like we have some intense divisional game against Buffalo or the Pats.

No excuse. Drop the hammer early and put them away and then get on the plane.

Oh the Irony. So they decide to bench Mills against Miami when he is set to go up against Tua….

We all remember the Watson negotiations. Texans brass famously said they didn’t even want Tua thrown into the trade because they believed Mills was the better QB.

Allen has had some good games, but none recently.

I was being silly. If we have a tough game against Houston, it'll say a lot about how far we still have to go. On one hand, a tough game might focus us before the road trip. On the other, there's literally no excuse or reason for this to be a competitive game. I'm still trying to believe in us, but I can't lie and say that I'm going to be skeptical of our chances for years, thanks to two decades of falling short.

Allen has proven that he can have a good game in this league. My biggest worry is stopping Pearce. If we can stop him and force Allen to throw, then it gets him in trouble. If they are running the ball on us successfully, he's going to start hitting receivers too and it's going to become a game.

Plain and simple, if the Texans went on the road to face any other " real" contenders - i.e. Buffalo, K..C., Philadelphia, San Fran....they would get crushed. There will be no excuse whatsoever to let the Texans hang around and make it a ball game.
They need to take care of business, period.

Agreed, if they are a serious team they have to win this game 38-10.

Allen has had some solid games and looked good at times. But the fact that no one has wanted to give him a shot recently makes me think maybe the league also figured him out.

Since starting four games for Washington in the middle of the 2020 season, he's thrown just 19 passed since then, over 2+ calendar years.

I understand those feelings, but this is setting up as a classic trap game. 49ers next week, coming off of a bye and a holiday, crap team that is making a QB change to a QB who didn't suck the last few times he was on the field... To me, this game is more about our rookie head coach than the teams talent level. They have to keep focus and keep building off of where they were before the bye. Lots of distractions and reasons to look ahead. The three weeks after... 49ers, Chargers, and Bills will define whether the team is elite regardless of the outcome Sunday.

Nope. Totally disagree. Elite teams don't lose trap games. If we lose Sunday, we're not an elite team.

By that standard, who is elite this year? Everyone has lost to teams they should have beat.

Have they? The Bills haven't. The three teams they lost to all have winning records. The Eagles haven't. They lost one game to a team with a winning record. The Ravens haven't. They have three losses, all to teams with winning records.

I don’t see a first year HC getting into ‘trap’ games. The whole experience is too new for them to treat any game as anything other than a major event.

The Chiefs lost to the Bears and the Colts.

The Bills were a pubic hair away from losing to the Lions yesterday.

Anybody can beat anybody on any given Sunday. That doesn’t take away from how good a team is. The Texans, over the life of their franchise has had Miami’s number amassing a record of 8-2 all time.

Years past , even when the Dolphins were playing well, would struggle in these types of games. Either they would pull out a late win or lose altogether. So, if we officially turned the corner we cruise Sunday.
Home against an obvious inferior team. No excuses if we don't crush them.
Same old Dolphins ? I honestly don't think so but they need to prove it.

The "trap" concern has more to do with the players, IMO. If they practice well, it says a lot. If they're looking ahead to next week, assuming this game is going to be easy, it might be a problem. Coaches believe every game is a trap.

No players on the Miami Dolphins roster should take any game for granted. There’s not enough history of success to overlook anyone, IMO.

Home against the worst team in the league with a quarterback who basically hasn't played in over two years.

No excuse. No traps. This is a must blowout game.

Should doesn't mean a damned thing when you're playing another good team. Like it or not, all three of those teams have good defenses.

If should doesn't matter, then what are we talking about?

If the Dolphins some how lose the the Texans, or play poorly, and then beat the 49ers, Chargers, and Bills they will be in first place in the East and will have a good chance at the playoffs, regardless of the rest of the year. Then, It's the Packers, Cheaters, and jet's to tune up for the playoffs.

It's the NFL, it doesn't matter who is playing who. If a team comes out flat and unfocused they have a good chance to lose. Even if one team is more talented.

Pinning your expectations for the post season, which is the point of wanting to call the team elite, on one game, with as much football left to play as there is seems silly to me.

If it's a winning record, it's a winning record. Those teams won those games and saying another team "should" beat them is based on nothing but perception. You are what your record says you are.

No, but every one of those times Miami was a BETTER team than the Texans and shouldn’t have lost.

I’m just pointing out the historical fact

That wasn't the question. Go reread it. The question was whether an ELITE team would lose to a bad team in a trap game.

I don't consider this to be a trap game regardless. That's typically a team that has a lousy record but is more dangerous than they might appear at a surface level. Not someone who outright sucks like Houston.

If the Chargers fall to 5-7 by the time we face them, that might be a trap game. Those guys could absolutely beat us, especially in their building.

Maybe we have different definitions. Losing to a team you should handily beat because you overlooked them is a trap game. Not losing to a team that is good but had bad breaks. The trap is overlooking/dismissing. They suck and the 49ers are next. The following game is going to matter more to Mike for obvious reasons. Can he keep his focus? The team knows the Texans suck and they should beat them. Do they play with the urgency and focus needed to beat any NFL team?

Yet, you are hyping one game as the determining factor, and debating secondary points, while ignoring the main one. Let me restate my point, if the Dolphins lose to the Texans and follow that up with three straight wins, (all road games vs good teams) they're still elite. Their post season chances are approximately the same. That will mean they had a trap game and got trappeded.

A record is more than one game. Unless, it's a loss to the Texans, I guess? Then the rest of your record doesn't matter. You aren't being logically consistent to say "you are what your record says you are", while saying a 10-4 AFC East leading Dolphin team that swept the Bills, and beat the Chargers, 49ers, and Ravens wouldn't be elite because of one game vs the Texans.

No, there's no "yet" about it. You stated that certain teams who are considered elite shouldn't have lost games to teams with winning records. That doesn't follow. A trap game is against a bad team with a bad record. Losing to a team with a winning record is just football.
