Who’d a thunk it - the AFC West teams that added all the firepower got worse, and the team that lost their (arguably) best weapon is still on top, full speed ahead.
Maybe. But I kind of believe in this team now. I don't go into any game thinking "we can't win this game."
Yep, he goes to a team he played for just like his time in Michigan.. im sure he can get Taylor rolling again with his run heavy offense
[LINK]https://www.foxnews.com/sports/char...ff-shocking-playoff-loss#&_intcmp=hp1r_1,hp1r[/LINK] Just days after blowing a 27-point lead in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC wild-card round, the Los Angeles Chargers fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and quarterbacks coach Shane Day. The Chargers announced the firings Tuesday, seemingly signaling that head coach Brandon Staley would return for his third season with the team. Call me silly, but how did the Chargers offense blow a 27 point lead? I'm truly surprised they didn't go after either the Head Coach or the Defensive Coordinator.
I was surprised to hear about these moves also. I would assume that means Staley is safe. Meanwhile, Boyer is still the DC of Miami as of now.
The longer Miami waits to decide Boyer's fate, the more difficult its going to be to find a quality replacement. Had they fired him right after the game, we MIGHT have had a shot at getting Schwartz, but he was picked up by Cleveland yesterday.
Unless they have their eyes on someone who is still coaching in the playoffs. That doesn’t explain why Boyer hasn’t been let go yet, though.
The message needs to be sent… “Hey, we have all of this defensive talent and need someone to coach it. Who’s interested?”
I could never understand the point of waiting if their minds are made up. Almost like they're covering their a$$es in case no one else is available then they can say they never intended on firing him.
Sounds like Payton is going to Denver… https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-sa...sean-payton-denvers-head-coach-212215969.htmlSources: Saints, Broncos agree to trade to make Sean Payton Denver's head coach
Career gamble by Bieniemy. I get the frustration, but anywhere else than the Commanders would have been a better option. That team is on the verge of a sale, Rivera will get fired after the sale. If it pays out well, good on him hes a freaking genius that we have never seen before. But the odds are heavily stacked against him. Wish him well and hopefully he gets the opportunity hes been waiting for.
Being a successful OC or DC with Xs and Os doesn't by itself make someone a good HC, and NFL teams have learned that over and over in recent decades. I always roll my eyes when someone says that a guy has to get a job because his team is successful. That's only part of the overall picture. And even then, there are a lot of reports that people think that Bienemy is basically like Joe Philbin, just a bud driver OC running the offense with a Pro Bowl QB and offensive minded HC. At least on that end, he'll get a chance to prove himself. But on what is pretty clearly the worst team in the division, with no QB and Ron Rivera potentially on the hot seat, its a really tough position to be in. And beyond that, I've read reports that NFL people just don't think he has what it takes to be a good HC. He's interviewed a lot of different places and no one has been impressed by him. It just is what it is.
This is such a true statement. Sometimes you can be an utterly fantastic coordinator but end up being a train wreck of a head coach. One the BEST examples that solidified that in my mind was Buddy Ryan. A defensive GENIUS at the time, he developed the infamous “46” defense which was instrumental in leading the 1985 Bears to the Super Bowl. At the time, it was one of the most feared defenses in league history and propelled folks like Richard Dent, Mike Singletary and William “The Refrigerator” Perry to stardom. As a head coach however? Oh God what a train wreck! His stints as HC in Philadelphia and Phoenix were absolute disasters! Now I’m not saying Bienemy wouldn’t make a fine head coach. I’m not saying that at all. He could be another Bill Walsh or he could be another Adam Gase. Who knows, but if he hasn’t been hired as a head coach, with the unquestionable success he’s had in Kansas City, then I would say there’s more that meets the eye. I just hope no one starts some of the STUPID theories of his not being hired due the hue of his skin.
Youre gonna have to tell me how Gannon who interviewed monday and got the job same day is more qualified than Bieniemy. Gannon to eagles fans is like Boyer to us. Eagles fans celebrated when he was gone. Would you hire Boyer over Eric as a head coach?
That depends on how qualified Eric is to be a HC. I mean, if he's sitting in these interviews just totally tanking it, why would the owners hire him to be the HC? Out of social pressure?
Nothing to do with social pressure or any of that media nonsense that the twitter world is so caught up with just dont tell me guys like Gannon, Nathaniel Hackett and Urban Meyer are more qualified than Bieniemy. Bieniemy has a far more extensive resume in the NFL than any of those three. The majority of the hires these days is who does the owner want to being to dinner these days, nothing to do with qualification. Which Gannon, who is a mediocre defensive coordinator, is far less qualified than Eric.
Do you disregard the notion that being a good X&O coordinator is less important to being a HC than leadership and other personality considerations? Vic Fangio is an excellent DC. One of the best in the last few decades. It took him a long time to get a HC job and he flopped. Now we're excited to have him as out DC. The two are just different jobs
I think Vic can be an excellent head coach so long as the GM provides stability and capable franchise quarterback that isnt the carousel of Flacco, Lock and Bridgewater. Its all about situations and they did not position him to succeed with that mess. bieniemy and fangio should both get opportunities. frank reich got a second opportunity immediately and he was just a coordinator and he was considered a failure with the colts. And btw i am all for frank getting that opportunity because the stats dont lie when you compare before and after frank on quarterbacks. He is very good at what he does. Freaking mcdaniels got a second opportunity and he was an utter failure in the broncos and looks to be a failure in las vegas. lovie smith got an opportunity just to tank. why cant bieniemy and fangio get an opportunity? Wouldnt shock me one bit if Fangio is one and done on the dolphins. Btw what playcalls did Mike do in the niners? The guys job was to get Shanahans coffee and bagel.
There's no one way to do it, but a lot of times these days, its not the guys who are the big name OC or DC who turn into the good HCs. Instead, they're identified as young position coaches and then fast tracked, basically. Our own McDaniel, Zach Taylor, John Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin, Kevin Stefanski, Mike Vrabel, Andy Reid, Brandon Staley, Dan Campbell, Mike LaFleur, and Arthur Smith are all guys who spent zero to two years as a NFL OC or DC before getting a HC job, and have had success. Many others had four or fewer seasons as a coordinator and turned into good coaches. In fact, the number of current NFL HCs who spent a long while as a coordinator first is minimal.
LOL, giving the wrong guy a shot isn't a good move, even when someone else does it. I just can't wrap my head around this obsession people have with Bienemy. Why is he so special? He's spent six seasons as Reid's right hand man, but lots of other guys do that sort of thing and aren't good HCs.
Except you don't know who if a guy is a good head coach unless he's given a shot. And if Eric didn't have the resume he has, no one would be questioning why he is getting overlooked.
Bears just pulled off a doozy: Great move for them in getting a #1 receiver for Fields. They've gone from horrendous to solid at WR now. Sign a good player or two for OL, draft Skoronski with the 9th and maybe a high end G or RT in round 2 and that offense might be radically transformed and elite in a single offseason.
