Dude, when the scouting guy is mouthy and touting the likes of Coughlin, Maybin and others in the minor league system, a house doesn't have to fall on me to make me understand those guys are leaving. The writing is on the wall bro, just take off the teal glasses please !

Not ridiculous. This ownership has shown ZERO loyalty to the fans here, so why would you think Hanley is untouchable ? He will be at least 1/3 if not 1/2 the payroll next year. They aren't going to pay that if they don't have too, and guess what ? They don't have too, and have shown a propensity to actually be inclined not too.

Dude, you must be a Marlins employee or just blind to the faults of this ownership group. You just don't want to see the truth. They could have helped this team a lot this year, and now will probably come up a couple of games short......that falls not only on the players, but also on management for not making the moves to help them get over the top.

They didn't do it in 2006, and now did it again in 2008. How many times do they have to prove to you they don't won't to win, for you to believe it ?

Winning will cost them more money, and make their players harder to move, when they become arbitration eligible. That is not in the plan, trust me.

There's no "teal glasses" effect going on here. I refuse to jump the gun and bash the team for something they haven't done yet. Of course the scouting director is going to talk up the farm system--it would kind of reflect badly on him if he didn't! If he says "Yeah, I run a crappy system. We've got less talent than some of those '60s Mets teams," you'd be flipping out right now bashing Beinfest and the scout group.

They shouldn't. Both teams are well-stocked with talent, especially the Cubs. The Dodgers also benefited from the total collapse of the Rockies and D-backs. The NL East is possibly the most competitive division in baseball and a second year manager took the league's smallest payroll to the brink of the playoffs. That is absolutely award-worthy, IMO.

Now, if Ned Yost hadn't supervised the Brewers' collapse, he'd probably deserve the award.

I have confidence in my opinion. There will be a huge turnover of the team roster, ala 2006. I will be shocked if it doesn't happen.

I didn't say he didn't deserve consideration, or even maybe should win it. But he won't even be given any votes, I will almost guarantee it.

Pinella and Torre will split the vote, with the winner being the one that goes the farthest in the playoffs. They are media favorites....yes even Pinella is.

Because he's the media's favorite manager, and the Dodgers earlier this season looked like they had no shot at the playoffs. (Of course, it helps when the other teams in your division TOTALLY COLLAPSE. Ahem.)

Maybin would be an even greater surprise if he could get something going to help win this game for us. If we fall here, our season really is over.

Well now any loss and they basically are eliminated. They couldn't win earlier in the season in Cincy, lets see if they can do it now.

Miami circuit courts just ruled in favor of the city and the Marlins on the revitalization package, which includes the stadium, per 610 AM/Jeremy Marks-Peltz. Braman says he will appeal, and says it's the 3rd inning of a 9 inning game. Marlins still hope to break ground by the end of the year.

Poor Mets fans, two years in a row the Fish pulled the plug on their playoff lives.

I don't see it that way, I see it as the Mets pulling the plug over the last two weeks on themselves.

I said it in another thread two weeks ago, we were done, the Phills had an easy schedule and we had the Cubs and Marlins.

Now the hard part for the Marlins will be keeping the young talent they have, they always seem to let them go, if they keep them, they will be real tough next year.

If the played against the Phils with the intensity they did against the Mets, they may have won the division.

Well yes, technically the Mets beat themselves by losing 6 out of their last 9 and weren't a playoff team to begin with IMO. Their bullpen, starting pitching, and inconsistent offense were all factors down the stretch. (Even though Johan was great)

The Marlins still have alot of holes to fill. Even if they get their young starting rotation healthy at the same time, they still have a horrible defense.

At the plate, they hit alot of homers but strikeout too much and are HORRIBLE with RISP. Ive said it 1000 times they need new ownership or to have this ownership put more money into the team.

Can you imagine this team with a $50M payroll instead of a $20M payroll? (They had $50M when they won the WS in '03)

Former Florida Marlin (known to Marlins fans as Mr Marlin), Baltimore Oriole, Philadelphia Phillie and KC Royal, Jeff Conine competed in and completed the Kona Ironman this past Saturday, October 11th, 2008 in Kona, Hawai'i. He also is a former MVP of the Major League All-Star Game (1996) and was a 4 time All-Star, 3 times with the Marlins, and once with the Baltimore Orioles.

For those that don't know the Ironman is, its a 2.4 mile swim, then 112 mile bike ride, and finishing with a 26.4 mile marathon. It is the most demanding athletic event any human being can undertake, and to finish is just an accomplishment in and of itself. Jeff at 42 yrs old, finished 1505 out of 1732 finishers.

If that's true the Marlins should be considered a serious threat in 2009.
