    This is really it.

If he can't stay healthy it doesn't matter how good he is.

It's obviously a team effort. What's important is that there's no justifiable argument saying Tua wasn't a key part of it. I mean he's the QB!

There is justification. He didn't demonstrate that uncanny ability to throw them open consistently throughout the season.

I'm not saying Tua is garbage. But I'm saying, it seemed more about the receivers.

This is ridiculous. You're now trying to deny credit to the QB of one of the greatest comebacks in recent memory: that Ravens game where the Dolphins were down 21 points in the 4th quarter and where the QB threw 6 TD passes! You think almost any QB could do that with our receivers? No. You think most great QBs could have done that in that situation? No. Teams were 0-711 when trailing by at least 21 points in the 4th quarter prior to that. That's how statistically unlikely that comeback was. No WR set makes that kind of comeback likely. Tua was absolutely crucial to that comeback.

Seriously man, give Tua credit where credit is due. Tua showed he could play elite over a prolonged period of time and also helped carry the team to wins in situations where most QBs would have failed. Attack him on durability, sure, but don't deny him credit for that.

This is misleading. Tua was never throwing guys open, Tua was throwing to a spot with anticipation expecting guys to be open at those spots over the middle. It was mostly good scheming and good timing between tua and recievers. When defenses adjusted later in the year and dropped defenderes into those spots over the middle, Tua had trouble adjusting.

Tua is as good as the system and talent around him. He played great within a system designed to hide his limitations. When defenses adjusted to take away the first read and wide open routes over the middle, he had to go off script and improvise which is where he is not anywhere near elite.

Tua didn't even play elite as long as Foles did. IDGAF about his "elite" stats. That offense sucked the last few games Tua was in.

You have coaches and players on the record saying otherwise, saying Tua was doing things never before seen on a football field. "Inventing football" I think was the term used.

I think I'll take their word.

The only reason you DGAF about Tua's elite stats is because they don't fit your preconceived notions of him. People were hammering Tua for NOT having elite stats the previous season and saying he would never be able to do that. Remember, the claim was he was mediocre, maybe a bit above average, but no way he puts up elite stats (one of many predictions Tua proved wrong in 2022).

And yes we all know Tua crapped the bed at the end. It's also true Foles' 2013 stats are more impressive than Tua's 2022 stats and that Foles had consistently high ratings for longer. Doesn't matter. Point is, don't deny the guy credit where credit is due.

No doubt Tua played great until the end.
My concern is besides the injuries was the adjustments of the D cords taking away the middle of the field at the end of year and we didn't adapt.Coaching issues or QB not being able to hit out routes.
2023 we will find out as I fully except the same Defences until they can prove otherwise.

Yup, but it's much harder to adapt midseason than after a full offseason. Let's see what they can do with a full offseason. No excuses in year 4 though. We need to see a Tua that's statistically in the top 6-7 (that's generally around 1 standard deviation above the mean), and see him play well in a playoff game. If he can't do that, then I'll be done with him after year 4. Can't have another borderline case at QB.

It takes good timing, accuracy, and anticipation. Tua is better at that than Teddy or Skyler. Also, Teddy and Skyler never got enough practice reps with the first team to build that timing and rythm with the recievers, so it's no wonder it did not look the same when they came in.

I can't remember when I first posted about Burrow, but it was around week 3 or 4 of his final college season. People forget that he was slotted at the 15th best QB going into that season and not expected to be drafted at all. What Burrow did was remarkable and it's one of the most impressive recent college storylines of a guy maximizing his chances in life.

Those that watched LSU that year knew, he was a can't miss stud in the NFL. But nobody knew that before that college year started, not even Burrow's parents.

Well many executives in the industry don't think it's so straightforward. They wouldn't pick it up per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, and I certainly get that side.

    Color me skeptical.
Firstly unnamed sources are to be treated with a dose of salt.
Secondly, it’s very easy to say “another team should do [x] in [hypothetical situation], but when it’s your team and your future job prospects on the line then life suddenly gets more complicated”.

There is a difference between elite stats and elite individual play.

    You don't recognize that.

If you put up elite stats repeatedly there's no difference whatsoever, as you won't find a single example of any QB you'd consider elite that doesn't have elite stats, and every QB with elite stats over a very long period of time is generally considered elite.

So it's only a matter of consistency. The correct metrics are being used. I mean the worst thing you can do is use the "eye test" where experts can't even agree on what they see. Objective is better in the end.

He's throwing to a predetermined spot in the middle of the field based on timing and anticipation. That is not "throwing guys open" which was the original argument. It worked great until the defenses picked up on it and started taking away those spots and disrupting the timing which is what they started to do towards the end of the season, and Tua stuggled adusting.

That's a misrepresentation. The claim is he played elite, not that he is elite. To claim he is elite he'd need to prove over many years he can play elite. And no one is ignoring the last month. We all know he crapped the bed there. He needs to prove he can play well in the playoffs. That's also been repeatedly pointed out.

I don't think Watson's story is fully told yet. Let's see what he does from here on out. Maybe all those distractions really got to him. For both Watson and Wilson what happened last year is a statistical anomaly. Usually those go away. But maybe not? Will be interesting.

Here's a better representation. Tua played well in a small sample, and it doesn't mean much in projecting him out. Defenses learned where McDaniel's scheme is trying to hide Tua's physical deficiencies, and forced Tua to throw to the sidelines and disrupt his timing. Ultimately, the offensive scheme and ceiling will always be held back by Tua's physical limitations.
