This year because we don’t have a pick Til 51 the fun part of the game is listing all the players I’ve looked at where I’m like if he’s available at 51 it’s a no brainer, that way the draft for me will be tracking those guys and hoping one drops, realistically of course, Bijan is not dropping

Here’s where I’m at thus far.

    Trenton Simpson
    Jamyr Gibbs
    Darnell Washington
    Dalton Kincaid
    Michael Mayer
    Paris Johnson
    Darnell Wright

Who else is a no brainer ?

I have almost zero confidence that he will be there when Miami chooses next.

Would love to see any one of the tight ends on that list fall to 51, but I think all will be long gone.

FOr me, I want one of the top 2 RTs to fall to 51. The instant impact we get from a rookie RT that can win that job. Even if we get average play from a rookie RT, it's a huge improvement. Then we get a good a decent TE prospect in 3rd. I know a RB would be exciting, but in a deep draft, we can get an upgrade over Gaskin and/or Ahmed in later rounds.

You think all of Washington, LaPorta, Mayer, Kincaid and Craft will be gone?

If that’s the case and we can still get Strange in the third I’ll take it

I was going by your original list - I think Mayer and Kincaid will go in the first, Washington early second.

I really would take Hendon Hooker if he was there as a solid Plan B.

I get the appeal, but would be really hard to keep 4 QBs on roster. if you move Hooker or Skylar to PS, they get scooped up. I think our QB room is set for 2023

Interesting idea, but he’s almost as raw of a prospect as Richardson, and that’s saying something. People would need a lot of patience with regards to his development.

I think Skylar is already in an uphill battle to make the roster after his performance versus the Bills and Jets. But yes, if we drafted Hooker, that would signal the end of Skylar.

I think that this is a freezing cold take. In his worst season, he threw five interceptions. In the last two seasons, he has thrown 3 interceptions and 2 interceptions. In the meantime, he has thrown 58 TDs in the last two years with completion percentages of 69% and 68%.

In one season full of starting, Richardson has thrown 17 TDs, 9 INTs, and had a completion percentage of 54%. Hendon Hooker threw 12 INTs in his entire career.

Most of the skepticism on him that I’ve read centers on the offense he was in at Tennessee and its compatibility (or lack thereof) with an NFL offense, not the numbers he put up. Plus, he’ll be 26 and coming of the ACL injury, which is also part of why he’s not projected until the second round at the earliest.

The QB that I really want us to take a shot on with a late round pick is Max Duggan from TCU.
I think he's got potential to be a playa' one day.

I really think it is the age + injury that is pushing him down. He is actually my third ranked QB overall, and I have thought about it a lot. Yes, his age is less than ideal. Coming off an injury is another strike in terms of his age. But at the end of the day, should it matter that much? If you are a GM, you seriously cannot be preoccupied with what the future is gonna be like in 8 years. Honestly, he might play as long as Bryce Young does.

Now, this is where things are actually really kinda of interesting. I really do not think the Dolphins should be looking for the same things as the rest of the league. Think back to that injury. Do we need him to play week one? No. That is not the plan at all. Is playing time and experience something we might be willing to trade for age? I think the answer is yes. We have a Super Bowl roster. We are ready to win right now.

What are the implications of an older QB as our Plan B if Tua continues to get hurt/have concussions? Well, I am glad you asked. If we wind up having to move off Tua, and Hooker is works out in a quarterback friendly system, it means the good times will continue to roll. A starting QB with a late second round salary means you can continue to spend in free agency and get top tier free agents.

This makes sense on A LOT of different levels.

Lol. Raw hookers aside, I don’t think the QB needy teams that miss out on the top 4 prospects are going to let him fall all the way to 51.

Very interesting article and a good state of the union with regards to the value of running backs in today’s NFL. I still think, however, that Robinson goes in the first round. Gibbs, on the other hand, could very well be there at 51, although I’m hoping one of the top TEs falls to us there and we get a RB in the third.
Normally, I would be looking for OL in at least one of those spots, but with Grier doing the drafting…

The NFL has become such a pass happy league anymore. Since the days of the great Dan Marino and the utter excitement of high flying touchdown passes, teams have desperately tried to duplicate that excitement…and the NFL has been an accomplice.

The league’s implementation of rules hindering defenses in what constitutes illegal contact, holding, pass interference, unnecessary roughness, roughing the passer, etc paved the road for quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and drew Brees. Now I’m not taking anything away from these players abilities, the league set these players up for their success by re-inventing offensive football to emphasize their skills set.

What’s been lost however in the evolution of offensive football however is the greatness and importance of the running back. Now I’m not saying that great running backs were a dime a dozen, but back when football was in its purer form, running backs were THE offensive weapon. Brown, Sayers, Csonka, Campbell, Harris, Payton, Thomas, Sanders, Smith…these were feared and respected players that defensive coordinators lost sleep in order to figure out how to stop.

With the exception of a VERY few, like Derrick Henry, running backs have been reduced to a check down receiver, a 2nd and 1 rusher and hoping he can help run out the clock after running up the score.

I really don’t but I to any of it really..

I think a true 3 down good running back still had its place in the NFL

Balance will always rule in creating space for each other

I’d move up for the RT from Tennessee or Mayer, the TE from Notre Dame, although I think both will be gone by the middle of the first.

Nobody bringing up OL? Dawand Jones is a possibility to fall and would probably plug and play. Darnell Wright would be the dream, but by all accounts the league is on him and he will go in Rd1. Anton Harrison would be nice. That said, everything both Grier and McDaniel say indicates no OL despite LG/RT being THE most glaring and obvious holes.

I could see DT if maybe Breese or Mazi Smith fall.

I don't feel like we will spend 51 on a RB or TE so I'd cross them out.

TE is a hard position for a rookie to make a big impact, I'd avoid that. Wright is solid though. Would depend on the cost but if we are going all-in he's a logical target. Someone needs to get him a gas mask.

Saw an ESPN mock that had us taking Torrance from Florida at 51. Don’t know if he’d still be there, but I’d like that pick.
