As if the incompetent goof, Grier wasn’t bad enough, now we have his kid making our first pick in the second round! Woo!

A couple of players I wanted were passed up on for Smith and Achne.

Who were you wanting that were available and passed up on?

I don't think he has any names in mind, he just wanted us to pick different positions.

Overall I think we did well in the 2nd and 3rd round. Two blue-chip players that could start day 1, two positions of need as well. TE or OL would have been nice, but our needs aren't nearly as huge as they've been in years past. This is a fairly complete team.

I'm also seeing a pattern here- we're drafting speed and versatility, hoping to find players that can flip a game on its head with one huge play. This is going to be an exciting season folks, and expectations couldn't be higher.

I was secretly hoping that Hooker or Levis would drop to us at 51, but I'm glad they didn't. You guys know I'm a big fan of drafting a QB every other season and letting them develop behind a starter. Would love that in the current system. I was also hoping one of those names dropped to the Panthers in the 2nd round as well, would have been wild to see two top-5 QB prospects go to the same team and battle it out in practice. No idea how Levis fell so far because he's an absolute stud- there must be a character issue we don't know about.

For what it's worth, I hope we sign Clayton Tune as an undrafted free agent QB, stud out of Georgia and a true 5-year starter.

Good draft so far though; I have no idea what picks we have today because I've been so disconnected from the draft this year in general. I think Grier is doing well though and hopefully we get a few OL in the later rounds to compete for a roster spot in camp.

I was hoping for Torrance or Washington at 51, but I get why they took a CB, especially one so highly regarded. It seems only mock drafters and fans had Washington as high as they did, because no actual team took him until 93. Achane may be a little small, but he is a burner and won’t need to be an every down back in this offense.

Hopefully, we can find a pass catching TE and some OL help late in the draft or as UDFAs, several of which Miami has already reached out to in case they are not picked today.

LOL, stuff like that restores my faith in humanity- seriously. I love it when talking heads look so incredibly stupid.

Last week, it was Charles Barkley saying the Miami Heat would be swept by the Bucs. Heat won the series 4-1 against the odds-on favorite to win it all! Florida Panthers are in the same situation in hockey and taking care of business as well, forcing it to a game 7. Great time to be a South Florida sports fan- could this be the year where the NBA, NHL and NFL titles all go to Miami? Very very excited!

    Yes.
….and yeah..i totally agree about the philosophy on picking a QB.
I also think the picks were just bad. I think there were much better players at several positions that we passed on for these guys. Uggh.

I hoped they would have taken Washington. I get taking Smith because of the value. Achane is not a bad pick, he just seems to be the same as the other RBs on the roster. Not sure how I feel about Higgins. I do like the versatility of Hayes.

Torrance is really the only guy who I think would have been a realistic choice. Maybe Steen (though he's probably a G and not a T).

Ultimately, they picked guys who will get significant snaps this season. With only two picks between rounds 1-3 there was no way we were wasting one on a developmental QB project like Hooker. Or really anyone who might not see the field. To be blunt, we needed quick contributors for a top heavy roster. After the annihilation of our CB corps last year, a defensive back was an obvious pick. And while I do like Wilson and Mostert, RB is a position that hits the ground running and where depth can also be important.

Plenty of OL I'd have gone after if they dropped, but they mostly didn't. We got good value. You can quibble about the positional need/value, but to say these guys are just flat out bad is weird.

My hope was Washington and he was available with the two picks. Seemed like a no-brainer.

However, reading up on Cam Smith I can see why Miami took him. If you have a defense where coverages are complicated and you need smart instinctual cornerbacks to make it work, Cam Smith is the perfect rookie. Just watching the highlights you can see that the guy is smart and decisive. He seems perfect for a Fangio defense with new coverage schemes.

Archane was not surprising. Apparently, McDaniel wanted to take him at 51 but Grier convinced him he will be there at 84. Which is why McDaniel didn't look too thrilled at 51 but was super pumped at 84. This guy is fast and looks perfect for this type of offense. Also, on those big holes with one person to beat, unlike Wilson, Archane looks like a guy who will beat that one guy. And when he does that play is going for a long play.

Higgens looks like a very interesting player. A perfect player in the 6th round since he is a player that if he works out will be very helpful in this offense, but if he doesn't, no biggie. Basically a Gesicki replacement for 1/10th the price. Where he isn't as good as jump balls in the end zone and one handed catches, he should be better at breaking tackles and everything else.

Hayes, I don't know anything about him. I am not looking up a 7th round lineman.

It is hard to get excited about a draft that only has 4 picks. However, they did pick two players who should contribute and two players with the potential to contribute.

Achane is a gamble that will either be a home run or a complete miss in my opinion. I don't like that he's so little. I felt like we needed a bigger back to add to this roster, but I guess the hope is that Wilson can be that guy.
I can't complain at all about the Higgins pick. We have zero pass catching Tight Ends on this roster and while the offense doesn't really cater to that position, it's still worth it to add him. I thought the Hayes pick was value for the 7th round.

I agree on wanting a bigger back. Non-blocking TE does seem like a waste in this offense, which is why I’m not sure about the pick. Washington is a mountain that seems like he could be an extra OL while having the ability to catch the occasional pass…really odd that we passed on him twice.

There were some players that got drafted so late that still has me wondering, how did that happen.. i think too much stock is put into combine and not enough is done at who was a playmaker and a true football player..

I was thinking along the same lines - we didn’t think Washington would be there at 51. Not only was he available then, but was still available at 84, and didn’t get picked until 93, after a lot of other TEs were taken. His size is intriguing, but maybe teams put more emphasis on his production (or lack thereof) in college.

I find it crazy that a talent like McIntosh was available in the seventh round.. im not sure there are five running backs more talented than him.. his 4.6 got him to drop for sure.. also a victim of playing in a loaded backfield i guess.. the seahawks got themselves a playmaker..

Maybe a non-blocking TE was a waste last year as Gesicki couldn't get separation and has zero YAC ability as he falls over at the first gust of wind.

I read somewhere else (maybe Reddit or FinHeaven) that someone said he was 185 as he had slimmed down to run track. Not sure if that's true or not. If he ends up at 195 or 200 then that will be plenty heavy enough. Guys that are 5.8 and 200lb in shape are usually as wide as they are tall.

Like a lot of others I was scratching my head at the Smith pick at #51 until you sit and think about it. We essentially have nothing outside of X, Ramsey and Kohou as we are hoping guys who got injured last year can come back the same. We all thought that about Byron Jones last year as well and look what happened there. Also, Kohou was a UDFA who performed way above anything we could have hoped but is he going to continue to get better? Guys like Iggy, Crossen and Bethel should never be seeing the field unless it's a special teams play. The Smith pick was not only for the future but also a need this season.
