We’re screwed! Man I hate Grier and his inability to get a functioning online and it will cost us yet another year! If anyone even tries to defend him you’re silly. Guy is horrible. I really hope this thread is mocked and I’m overreacting but I’m really worried TUA is going to need to be Bruce Lee out there behind that line.
Can't believe they moved up to select Eich. You got to fire the guy who keeps making mistakes otherwise the guy who made the mistakes will keep throwing his mistakes down your throat until they maybe work out.
I’ll get blasted for saying this, but read to the end please. When it comes to free agents, Grier does a great job. His most notable landing was getting the Cheetah last year. He’s great at landing free agents. When it comes to the draft? Like any GM, the draft is a craps shoot. For every 7 you roll on the come out, you roll craps as well. Let’s be honest here… Wilkins Waddle Tagovailoa Phillips All stud players! Can’t deny that. But in the what, 10+ years he’s either been the GM or had influence in the team’s draft, you haven’t been able to put together a SOLID offensive line…the BASE of your offensive unit is completely INEXCUSABLE!!!!!
To make matters even worse, he doesn’t seem to make the OL a priority, and never has. I get the impression that he signed Armstead and Williams just to say “See - I got you two top players, you should be able to fill in the other three positions with just about anyone. Oh, and keep trotting out my draft picks, because they’ll be good someday”.
The offensive line has been an issue with the dolphins for so long.. i kid you not for those who have forgotten, there was a day where Brandon Albert, Pouncey, and Tunsil played on the same team and they struggled because our weaknesses was schematically which is coaching. now we seem to have the coaching for a strong offensive line, i mean this guy did come from San Francisco who had a literal brick wall during his time there, but we dont have the players.. we draft guys like Jackson who i thought was a complete reach as a guy who watches a lot of USC games i saw him get beat by everyone..
We just need an OL that is average and the offense will be fine. That's the frustrating part, that Grier can't seem to manage even that. If the defense steps up today, and they run the ball more on offense, Miami should be okay. Dropping back to pass play-after-play will end his season pretty quick.
Exactly there are like 3-5 teams that have no o-line problems it’s the whole league that’s craving for a good o-line. Plus this years line looks better then years prior and from what I‘m hearing is that Jackson seems to have come around and is supposed to be a different player (well he’s also in a contract year). Sure it would be nice to have a Eagles o-line but the Jest for instance would wish they had our o-line problems.
the problem is a poor offensive line and tua will be constantly running for his life which leads to blind side hits and injuries
Wtf two bad exchange he’s in the first drive by Williams this oline is a damn joke Grier is a closet jets fan I swear it!
Put some Frank's Red Hot on mine. I didn't see this coming and I hope I get used to it. Incredible job.
Im here and I'll gladly eat some crow. They did a hell of decent job against a pretty good defense. Tua didn't get hit and we were able to run a little. Not going to anoint the second coming of the Line especially when it's game 1 and people don't have a lot of tape. Let's see if they can continue that success. But I'll eat that crow today they did a great job!!!
Chargers haven't yet proven they have a good defense. They had our number last year, but they were ranked 23, 29 and 21 in points allowed last 3 years. And if you can put yourself in the shoes of a Chargers fan for a moment, giving up 536 yards and 36 points with 215 yards to one WR has got to be frustrating as hell. WAY more frustrating than what we felt consistently giving up chunk yards to their RBs. So the OL has yet to prove itself. But the more defenses fear Tua+Hill+Waddle, the better our OL and running game will look. Big question is which defenses can cover both Hill and Waddle without double teaming them. If our defense improves (and it will), we'll have a potent combination of high powered passing and adequate defense. Many teams in the modern era have won SBs with that approach.
I can see the Jets trying it and if the refs do their job and call holding on Sauce we will get a bunch of PI yards.
The promising thing was it was against Mack and Bosa too. I can't remember too many games in his career where Bosa was kept that quiet for the entirety of the four quarters.
Line looked impressive. If anyone here subscribes to PFF, I would love to see how they graded each man out.
Hunt, Williams and Lamm all graded pretty well. By reactions on here and online, I would have thought AJ would have graded higher - didn’t hear the usual negativity about him throughout game.
Mack and Bosa, backed by an otherwise solid secondary with a couple of all-star level players in it. Conventional thinking is that a decent secondary buys time to get to the QB but the ball came out quickly yesterday. The Bolts may have to get used to their new DC the way we need to get used to ours. But any day where you shut out Joey Bosa and Kahlil Mack is a day to celebrate.
I've always sort of defended Grier with respect to the OL on the basis that the OL coaching under Gase and Flores was so bad we had no true idea of what we actually had. After game 1 of 2023 it looks like the problem was much more coaching not personnel. I'll hold my breath to see how things play out over the season. Maybe other teams will exploit weaknesses once they get a bit more film. Maybe coaching has helped players get good.
