This becomes quite the quagmire for the team. What if…and I emphasize IF the Dolphins suddenly have a reawakening and go on an 8 game winning streak to finish the season 10-7…maybe making the playoffs, maybe not. What then? Does the new GM come on board and keep what’s already in place? Does he have to try and justify firing a head coach that’s had 3 out of 4 consecutive winning seasons? Now, so I think any of that is going to happen? Absolutely NOT. I think the Dolphins win maybe 2 or 3 games and end up a 4 or 5 game winning team. I agree with DouglieDoWrong. I think Ross is going to maintain status quo for the remainder of the season and let the team disintegrate into oblivion and let the new GM come in and completely rebuild the team from the ground up.
I mean, we had one of the most explosive offenses in football for two seasons. Then we traded away two stud corners and our opponent scored on every single drive going into the 2nd game. It doesn't take a genius to see that those trades were terrible moves. Who'd we replace the stud corners with? Edge rushers! And if we had 30 sacks going into this week, it was a good move. But we don't and we're far worse than last season in sacks and pressures. Again, can't fully blame McDaniel. He deserves some heat, sure, but all he has to do is point at the CB room and say, "What the heck!?! That wasn't on me!" For the offense, Tua is certainly off this season. But did you notice the two games that he played solid? It was the two games that the defense had us in the game. It's a lame excuse, sure, but when he wasn't expected to wear a superman cape and just play game manager, he did Tua-like things. McDaniel has struggled this season to create an offense with the current line and receiver corps. We have stud RB's but very few holes. We still have Waddle, but how do you get Waddle open when the pocket rarely holds and teams are doubling/tripling him in zone AND shutting down the quick slant routes? It's tough- we need a competent line and we'd be in business, even without Tyreek. This is a run first team that makes chunk plays off of play-action. But that can't happen with unblocked defenders getting into our backfield. Grier had to go, and McDaniel probably will go as well. It's a shame really because I think he has the goods, but he doesn't have the talent to protect his skill players. It always comes back to that darn offensive line. That's why Grier was fired first and McD will shortly follow him...it's mostly Grier's fault though.
I agree. I just don't see how any of this is on McDaniel. Fans that want a "Rah rah" coach that's gonna scream and grab players by the face mask like some 1980s All The Right Moves movie are really showing their age. That doesn't happen anymore in the pros. Hasn't for a long time. I do agree that McDaniel has the chops to do this. I hope he's not a fall guy at seasons end, and honestly...An in house hire for GM is fine by me. Grier being gone might be all it takes as far as personel. You give McDaniel AND Tua next year because God help this offense if Tua is without McDaniel. We're locked into Tua regardless money wise. There's no reason to fire coach. The atrocious Weaver defense needs to be revamped and of course our offensive line needs to be fixed. We've needed to fix it for twenty years now. When these glaring weaknesses are screaming in your face and you do nothing about it from a GM perspective, and that's your actual job, it's time for you to go.
People want McDaniel gone for legitimate reasons. I'm not saying he's the main problem, but he's certainly been part of the problem.
