http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0801/nfl.top.rookies/content.1.html Satele voted #6 offensive rookie according to SI. Congrats Samson, may be the anchor of our line for the next 10+ years. Of equal note, 3 WRs on the list, and not a single member of Ted Ginn's family is among them.
I didn't realize Dwayne Bowe had that good of a season with such a poor offense, it is nice to see Satele get some recognition.
Congrats to Samson. I REALLY wish that Hudson Houck could have stuck around. The rest of the coaching staff, I don't care, but I think that he is probably the best OL coach in the league. He did a great job with what he had this year.
On draft day, there were more then a few people who thought we should have drafted Ryan Kalil who went one spot before Samson... Samson named to that team, Ginn pro bowl alternate, that is down right respectable for a Dolphins draft....
I agree.. And for the record, I was wanting Samson with the first second rounder we had and...as soon as FH comes back up, I will back this up Good job Big Sam... and I also think letting Hud Houck go is gonna be bad for us.
Depends who becomes our OL coach, and if it turns out that Sparano is the HC (he is current Asst HC/OL coach for Cowboys) so no telling what his presence could equal. Lastly, its possible the new HC can resign HH if he wants to, etc.
IMHO he is the BEST third round draft pick since Jason Taylor in 1997. http://www.drafthistory.com/teams/dolphins.html
You remember the "we should have traded up and drafted Ryan Kalil" noise Az? That was very funny in hindsight....
Samson was a great draft pick......at least we got something by dealing away Wes Welker. I can't remember too many times this year where you saw a nose tackle or anyone else really beat Satele up the middle. I think most of the sacks given up were from going around the LT. Satele also doesn't fumble the snaps like Sweaty Hands Seth use to, and our line as a whole did not have a lot of false starts. It will be nice to have Samson there for years to come.
I stated that day I was glad Kalil didn't make it to us because I knew the Phins would still go for Satele. By the time he gets to his 3rd year he should be something.
Thats some depressing reading in that link. Kinda explains our serious lack in talent! Last years draft looks a decent improvement on recent drafts
Sorry , yes the second pick in the Second Round. Still what other great draft pick in the second round can you think of that has made such an impact? Maybe Patrick Surtain in 1998?
Yup, Beck, Satele, Roth are our recent 2nd rounders (Chambers as honorable mention) (edit, Hagan and McMike were 3rd/4th rounders)
Sorry, Oopss. my bad, yes 3rd/4th round, was quickly looking at the wrong column (2nd pick / 3rd & 4th round each year).
http://www.drafthistory.com/teams/dolphins.html Hagan - 3rd rounder in 2006. McMicheal - 4th rounder in 2002.
Wow. Peterson didn't even start until the 6th game and he ended up with almost 1400 yards. Not to mention he was out with an injury also. Anyway.... congrats to Samson. He'll be here for a while.
I cant wait to see what kind of second year he is going to have. I have the feeling that our o-line will become a strong point in future years and not the laughing stock it was in the past.
Calvin johnson no surprise. Bowe was a surprise. James Jones has someone pretty decent tossin him the ball. He had 676 yards and two TDs, Ginn had 420 and two TDs. but of course Ginn wasted the talents of the QBs tossing him the ball I keed I keed. But Ginn has something they don't (at least I don't think). Pro-bowl baby! About Huock, it's not all doom and gloom. When he left San Diego their line hasn't really missed a beat. They have better talent but we have better talent now than when Houck first started, and hopefully we'll stock up a bit more this offseason.
Good for Samson Satele. Good for the Dolphins who have not had any good news at the oline positions since the old Simms and Webb days guarding Marino's back side.
I'm not that down on the Ginn pick anymore, granted he made the Pro Bowl as an alternate KR and not at WR. Wanted Quinn at the time, and hindsight says Willis or Okoye, but hopefully Ginn pans out; being a Buckeye fan makes me want him to succeed even more.
Nice call azfinmang. I wanted Kalil bad and when Carolina picked him one pick before us I almost cried. Then we picked Satele and I didnt know anything about him. I thought it was a panic pick at center when they just just scrambled to get the next center on their board. But this guy is great and what's funny he'll be better than Mangold amuch more highly touted prospect
Some of our best Ol drafts were in the 1st or second round. Dwight Stephenson 1st 1980 Richmond Webb 1st 1990 Keith Simms 2nd 1990 You want good longstanding linemen, you have to pick in the 1st or 2nd round. Not that there aren't good linemen in later rounds, but for those franshise guys you really need to look in the top 2 rounds.
We got Abraham Wright with the 7th round pick obtained in the Welker trade. Fields was drafted with the 7th round pick we got from St. Louis for Jones.
I will admit I was in that group. Satele has worked out amazingly. I wish we had gotten Dwayne Bowe. That guy is stunning.
