Many of you know that I've had a rough time since graduating 7 months ago. The economy has been REALLY hard for young architects and it just keeps getting worse. I have 60k in student loans and recently moved back home BUT.....I had a job interview for a design firm (non-architectural) that went pretty well today. It's 35 minutes from home and sounds like it would be a lot of fun.....and best of all they're flourishing in this economy. My ex just got laid off with another 80 people from a major architectural firm in Chicago...things just keep getting worse. I REALLY REALLY need this. If you have the time I could really use your prayers and well wishes. Thanks!
Thoughts and prayers brother, many people, including myself, are struggling with finances due to this economy. Hopefully things will start turning around for the better sooner than later. Good Luck.
Best of luck, prayers and best wishes brother. I know how you feel. I have been out of work since July.
Hate to hear of the rough times. Have to remember this: The economy WILL turnaround eventually, some indicators are already looking up. Once this happens, you will have the toughest of times behind you. God bless, and good luck.
I feel your pain with student loans. I'm at about 70k myself. Good luck and hang in there. You will get a job. I promise. Don't forget, you can get foreberances and deferments with those loans so you don't have to pay right away. Good luck again!
Very good point. When I got out of school, I was able to stay out of serious financial turmoil with these options.
I was unable to stay away from financial turmoil when I finished college, but it was all good, times can be tough, tough people ride them out and come out ahead.
Good luck brother. I graduated law school with over 100k in debt and it took me a year to find a steady job. It can be hard. Certainly not what I expected. I did contract work in the meantime, and didn't have any expenses and lived at home with the 'rents, but still, a rough time. I'm doing fine now, but absolutely positively hate my job, but I'm keeping it, while launching my own law firm. Sometimes I wonder if I'm thinking the grass is greener. My specialty will be small business law, so I'm monitoring that niche daily for a blog I'm going to launch soon. I pray it picks up, because it'll be good for everyone. My wishes are there for everyone in this thread that need the help. Godspeed everyone!
You have em. And I feel ya. Tuition and other fees are why I'm delaying medical school for a year while I work (paying for medical expenses also took a chunk out of my education savings so I'd still need loans anyways). And it was one reason I chose UCLA over Harvard for undergrad because UCLA was fully comped by Regents and other merit scholarships for locals while Harvard would cost $50k a year.
You've sure got my prayers. Hang in there. We're in a bad bind to. A lot of us are. All we can do is hope and pray for each other. Best of luck to you.
best of luck brother. i hope you get the job you're looking for. also, if you have any questions about your loan situation, i worked in the student loan department at my school for a few years so I may be able to give you some advice/answers. we're all here for ya
I wish you the best bro. Other then that it would probably help to live at home for a bit til you get your finances straight and try and live the low maintenance lifestyle for a bit and avoid any careless splurges.
Brother, I'm right there with you believe me. I wish you the best of luck man I really do. Just be thankful you aren't one of us old geezers having to deal with this. You've got more time for this to work out and still blaze a career path after it's over. Hope this job comes through for you.
You have my prayers brother. Its tough right now for almost everyone. I haven't had a contract for almost a month, and I don't know where I will get money to pay off some of my debts. My dreams for some things I wanted will have to be shelved for a while. Just keep the chin up, and stay strong.
I see someone hasnt taken their ADD meds this afternoon! But its good to see you have your comprehension level up to a 6th grade level. hey buddy. Good job.
1) I never take those stupid pills. 2) I've always read at a 6th grade level..........except in grades 1-7..................
Hey guys thanks, I really appreciate it. I'm very sorry to hear about many of y'all having bad luck (read about some of them on this site). Hopefully we can get this thing turned around here soon. I've done a decent job of keeping things in perspective...I have a very supportive family and got a lot of help from my gf's family while I was looking in Chicago. While some students are having a hard time finding loans I've got my degree and that'll never go away. I've seen family members who have families lose jobs, other people I went to school with get laid off....just rough all around. I hope the best for you and am going to just relax until Monday and try to hit a home run.
Hey, just because we couldn't get into the Universidad de Cocaína Contrabandistas en México doesn't give you the right to look down on us.
Da phins, I feel for you. I was without a job for over a year, and today, like some sort of crazy mystical aligning of the planets, I got two job offers. I will start the one on the 15th and the other I'm not sure of (it's part time IT), but fortunes be, I think I will be able to work them both. My point being- be patient; keep praying. It will happen. Good luck to you on Mon. I'm pullin' for ya.
dude I can't believe your still pissed you weren't allowed in. But then again everyone wants to be a fightin burro.
Good luck Daphins, I hope that you land a job. When you do get work as an architect I hope that you won't be the kind that looks down their nose at us planners. That's what drove me out of my job in Miami.
I'm never one to look down on others. Hell I'm just a kid from Iowa coming out of a long generation of farmers lol. I chose architecture because I felt that I had a chance to make a difference in peoples lives. I actually have a strong interest in planning and think that the positive impact they can make on our environment exceeds even that of architects.
Brother the most important thing is to keep the faith, smile, and stay positive, and good things will happen. I wish you nothing but the very best!
If it makes you feel better ... it was a mail order law school. Get my degree with 5 easy payments of $59.95 and all I had to do was write 3 papers and mail them in. The other 100k in student loans were spent on blow and hookers. Which tells me I should have gotten into Universidad de Cocaina, or affectionately known as Colleja de Llello. I'd be in less debt. daphins. If it helps make you feel better, do not fret about moving home! Especially since you got a gf already. of course I come from an Asian family my mom doesn't want me to move out she offered to move into a smaller room while she gives me the house and I move into the master! I said yeah right as soon as I could, I'm out. But there was no shame. Plus, what better place to be ii tough times then with the people who absolutely care the most, a supportive family.
Thank you ALL. The interview went well and I started a day later. I really appreciate it and am going to take some time to land on my feet here. Thank you guys very much once again.
