Yesterday, I watched the entire Saints/Falcons game. Matt Ryan is a stud. Unless you've seen this guy play a full game, you can't appreciate how good he is. Yeah, his stats are impressive, but watching him play, he's got "it". I love Jake Long, and Chad Henne might become a quality player, but Matt Ryan is the man. ps- I think this is the right forum for this thread. I dunno. Mods, move it if necessary.
Tough to argue with that- Ryan is the real deal. I'm happy with Pennington, Henne, and J Long- but looking back in a few years we might all agree that Ryan was the better choice. All I know is that OT and QB were desperately needed as well as the top guys- nothing wrong with C Long, etc. on defense-but we had to go offense.
I agree Matt is proving he's the real deal each and every week, but I will never have any regrets that we finally addressed our LT spot for a long long time (Pun very much intended). I'm glad ATL was able to turn things aroudn as we have, especially with the vick mess they also had to deal with.
I often see him throwing off his back foot and slinging the ball around. I expect sooner or later the interceptions will mount up unless he fixes that. He has great down field accuracy though.
Both Ryan and Flacco are having tremendous seasons. Just goes to show you how inexact the science of the draft is. No one had the twosome of flacco/Henne rated higher than JaMarcus/Quinn but look what's happened. Obviously I'm not writing off anybody or annointing anybody, but you can't argue the results thus far.
Matt Ryan could become the next Peyton Manning and I'll still have no regrets about the direction our Front Office went this offseason. Yes, I've seen a couple Falcons games. Yes Matt Ryan is superb for a rookie and looks like he's gonna be one of the games top QBs for a long time. But Jake is dominant at LT and Chad Pennington has played at a pro bowl level with a mediocre WR crew. To think that next year our WRs will be more experienced and more polished, our D should be better, and our Oline will have more depth and be more experienced. Just imagine what Chad P will be able to do then. Remember, Chad is only 32. If he continues like this, he'll be with us for 5 years. And we didn't even have to give up any draft picks for him let alone the #3 overall pick. With the addition of Henne, Chad P, and Jake, QB and LT are 2 positions we don't have to worry about for 5-10 years.
I've never been high on Henne in the draft but I've been high on Ryan and Flacco. There's no doubt in my mind he was a better prospect than JaMarcus Russel. Just ask adamprez. Flacco's having a decent season but Ryan's just going insane. Roddy White and Michael Turner have helped tremendously but you gotta figure if Ryan struggled, their production would plummet greatly. He's doing everything I thought he'd do and more. You don't expect that out of a rookie QB to put up a 90+ QB rating and a playoff caliber team in a 1st year. He looks like a veteran out there and I believe it stems highly from his days at BC when he really was the engine for the offense. People bashed his arm, his competition, etc. I never believed any of it. That said, I'm happy with Jake Long.
Actually if I knew Matt Ryan would do this I would have wanted him because I could careless what we finish with Ryan the 09 draft is loaded with OL.
