There's gonna be a lot of happy kids this year. Nintendo is offering the best console at the best price. They are the most innovative of the 3 gaming giants. Congrats to them for keeping the Nintendo name so strong. Long live Super Mario!!!!! P.S. The Mor probably bought like 400k of those.
Despite having a few Wii's it is by far the least played console in the house. DS, PS2, PS3, 360 all get far more play time... Well, the PS3 not so much... But the rest yeah.
Do they have a statistic for the re-sale and trade-in rates? I think with the Wii it's more a case of you get what you pay for. The 360 and ps3 are/were more expensive but their playability and lastability far outweighs that of the Wii. Case in point. Ever since I bought my Elite I haven't played anything else. Except I use the PS3 to play NCAA, multi-region you see Here, not sure about you guys but the new Wii/Nintendo adds are being done by Olivia Newton-John. Everytime I go to a game store there's some 40+ year old woman buying a Wii together with WiiFit. So yeah target marketing really does work. Just as I post this there's an ad for Wii playing on the radio spooky.
While Microsoft decided to jump out of the gates early with their defective consoles and Sony decided to take their sweet time with a powerhouse console that nobody wants to develop games for, Nintendo decided to go in a different direction and has made fools of both of them. Bill Gates can keep buying rights for exclusives and downloadable whatevers he wants and Sony can make promises of the greatest thing you've ever seen in high definition and it won't matter. The success of Blu-ray won't be enough either. The Wii sales are unbelievable. Was the NES even this big?
Congrats to Nintendo... Now make another Zelda and Mario. And make Punchout Wii not suck. And come out with that phantom Kid Icarus game. And put majoras mask on virtual console. and make another new super mario bros DS game.
This is just the beginning of the snowball IMO. 3 months ago, our local Blockbuster had a Section that was equally split between XBOX-360 and Wii. Now the entire Section and half of the next is nothing but Wii. 360 is a very small corner off by itself.
If they make a new Zelda game I might consider getting a Wii. Those games are a sentimental favorite of mine.
One thing that is kindve nice, Gamecube games are completely compatible. You dont get the nice wireless motion thing with them that you do with Wii games, but they work just fine none-the-less My Gamecube just happened to go out in June, so it was an easy choice. Picked up the Wii dirt-cheap and already had ohhhh about 30 games or so. EDIT: And yeah, I believe they did just come out with a new Zelda? At least there has been plenty of talk about it recently. I will see what I can dig up EDIT2: That didnt take long http://wii.ign.com/objects/748/748589.html http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/thelegendofzelda/index.html
Well yeah, what 40 year old woman doesn't want to jazzercise with Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air? I'm a long time Nintendo fan, I was a little skeptical about the Wii at first, but that gimmick is actually really fun to play.
lol, ok, add middle aged women to the list of demographics. Yea, I don't think I'll be playing video games much with them.
Don't get me wrong, I love nintendo too. The Zelda series is a long time favourite of mine. For me the Wii is like a neat party trick. The "gimmick", as you say, was pretty cool at first but wore off pretty quickly for me. Very few of the games have any substance. And I won't tell you what my brother (who was a fill-in games reviewer for a while) says about Wii lovers as it might offend some My 360 is definitely my best friend
I do not care much for the Wii, now my kids and wife love it but I guess I am to old and uncordnated to work the darn thing.
I have had my wii since Nov of 06. So far I've probably played my 360 that I got in AUGUST of this year more total than the Wii. I liked it a lot when I first got it but all the "great games" that came out do nothing for me. I guess people like me aren't the demo.
I would like to have Wii to play Metroid Prime 3 and the new Punch-Out. That's about it. My wife would like one for family entertainment. I could not live on a Wii alone but I would like to have one. Actually I want all 3 consoles and both handhelds but I don't have the time or money for all of them. I can barely "cough" buy games for the 360.
I do not like the Wii. If I had a lot of parties with a lot of video game friends and children, the Wii would get used. If the new motion thing actually works, then maybe I would like the Wii. I find the controls horrible for the most part.
Agreed Stitches but you were missing my point. What I meant was that the Wii is a beast of a console that sells to a point where this generation the PS3 and the Xbox360 can't even dream of catching it. I will venture to say the Wii will outsell them both combined. I'm not saying its a great system in fact I don't like the things at all because the times I've played before at friends' houses its nice for a few giggles but as a console its more of a gimmick then what I call a gaming console. However that is going by my definition of what makes a gaming console.
Actually it was new for the Wii and ported for gamecube. It rely's heavily on the wii new remote. I got it when I got my wii and actually loved it alot.
No, it was developed for the gamecube. It was under development forever, and held back so it could be released for the wii as well.
Oh yes, nintendo will win the consoles as microsoft continues to kill in the software category (fallout3, gears 2, cod:waw, fable 2, etc).
correct sir. It was a blatant move to sell the new hardware putting it out on the wii first. I played it on the cube myself, didn't get a wii til galaxy was released. But i have played both versions of twilight princess, and let me tell you, it was very obvious that the motion controls were tacked on after the game was already in development. Links movement worked perfectly fine with the gamecube controls, but the point of the wii, at least early on, was to use the motion, so they just threw it in there. The wii may not be the most powerful or most utilized system but it's still a lot of fun. People make the argument that the Ps3 is capable of doing so much more, but developers don't do it. I think it's funny how that same argument is forgotten when the Wii is brought up. Some developers (like High Voltage, Suda 51, and Nintendo of course) have shown that Wii can do much more than 'carnival games' or 'Petz', but the developers don't bother. Still though, the Wii is a great system. Mario Kart, Brawl, and Galaxy are three games that everyone should play at least a few rounds/levels of.
Same here. If there's a new game, I can just borrow it with the system for a day or two and return it. It's why I sold it to him to begin with...
How many more consoles does the wii have over 360? Just because wii has more estimated software sales (and only because wii fit and wii play are included), the 360 is outselling it in software (ps3 probably is too) when you look at a per console basis. The article you site even says as much about the ps3.
your underestimating just how well mario kart, smash bros, and wii fit are selling. Almost all of them have around the same amount of sales numbers as Halo 3 (mario kart and Wii fit actually have far surpassed it). Mario kart/ wii fit actually have the potential to be the best selling games of this generation. And the holidays aren't over.
