Don't blame the QB alone when you've got the most pathetic run defense in school history, the coaching staff is terrible, and the offensive line sucks.

I'm excited about Jacory's future, and the fact that this is the final game for POS players like Glenn Cook.

Ehh...Randy Shannon is not a very good coach, too many dumb penalties, and Larry Coker ruined the program.

The U keeps trying to pound square pegs into round holes and it just doesn't work./

Nope...he doesn't have "it" HiDef...he did not feel the rush, he did not protect the ball, he did not use his speed to escape the rush..why is he in the game again?

    20 carries, 186 yards, 2 TD.

Let's blame our true freshman QB for keeping this game viewable when Shannon's defense couldn't hold their own as usual.

Actually I think Harris is the guy. Especially if it's just between him and Marve. The problem is coaching. They obviously didn't have plays prepared for that situation, and haven't practiced it or had that urgency drilled into them.

As for the fumble....stuff happens. Thats why YOU DONT HAVE THE QB ROLL OUT TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF HIS THROWING HAND. I'm sorry but thats just an idiotic play design. Just by the nature of how you have to roll out the ball is unprotected.

That was probably the most useless efficiency of controlling the play clock I have ever seen. I know Harris is only a freshman but the coaches have to do a better job from the sidelines.

The real problem is Alex, they keep trying to find the "next" Vince Young...just a guy who is so physically gifted,he can make plays no matter his deficiencies.

And come on now, are you seriously trying to suggest he has NEVER run a 2-minute offense?

He just ain't the guy, if he drops straight back, and has to read the Defense and make a throw time after time after time...he can't do it..:pity:

I'm not saying he has never run a two minute offense. He probably did in high school. It's different though on a new team. If you don't know what the play is, what to do, so on you get lost out there. No-one else on the team was in any hurry either. I can't put the blame just on him.

As for dropping back in the pocket....I thought he did a pretty nice job tonight and has really improved over the course of the season. He's worlds and worlds and worlds better than Marve at this stage on their careers.

    bingo.

they looked like a pop warner football teem running the 2 minute drill, and then we take our timeouts at the start and middle of the 3rd. Shannon has done this in alot of games this year.

Harris was cool in the pocket, I love how he handled himself in the game

Flabbergasted is all you can say about the clock management not once (at the end of the 1st half) but also at the end of the game.

Horrible, shameful and fireable. :tantrum: Shannon must go. He did not manage that game to put his players in a position to win the game. FSU has taken leaps and bounds ahead of us, and next year will be another 7 win season, if we are lucky. The schedule next year is way beyond tough.

Does Kirby Hocutt have the balls to fire Shannon ? :pity:

I didn't get to watch this game tonight because some stuff came up but I will get to see it tomorrow at 12 AM. However, I will say that Jacory Harris is that guy who can lead this team and he can drop back. He's been doing it his whole football career, from dominating at the high school level to now. He can drop back and read defenses, and make throws. He has high football IQ and he's shown us that in last years championship high school game in which he lost his headset due to someone cutting off the playcalling and he led his team downfield 90+ yards, calling his own plays, for the win.

And Kevin, if your interested in my thoughts on the game, I'll tell you them tomorrow when I watch it.

Alen be prepared to be just flabbergasted at times during the game. This was gift wrapped by the coaching staff and handed to the Cal coaches. If you really love the Canes, you will be very disappointed in Randy Shannon.....I just don't have the words to say how horrible I feel right now.

I haven't looked at a single highlight nor have I looked at the score. I know we lost but it truly doesn't surprise me. I said it in the upper level that we may lose this game. I wasn't too confident heading into it and seems like the coaching staff and team weren't either. Nor were they prepared it sounds like. Shannon doesn't surprise me when he gift wraps wins to opposing teams, not anymore at the least. I like him, he's a hell of a recruiter but either he, the rest of the coaching staff or the whole staff including him have to go. If they go next year with the same OC, the same DB coach, the same OL coach, the same LB coach, we won't see much of a difference than this year.

Well Kevin, if I were to articulate it, it would come out much like these posts, I think you gave an accurate assesment of the problems. I was SO disappointed with clock management. The team WANTED to win, they played hard enough to win, the coaching staff let them down..imo.

Something inside of me has always like the "U"....they dont have that swagger anymore and Im not sure how they get it back.

The defense looked fast and ready to regain its form in the Florida game, they didnt look as good as I would have thought after that. I dont watch enough Miami U football to know "who" to blame.

It's either youth or the coaching staff.

I don't think it's fair to completely blame the staff when most of these guys are Freshman. I dont think we can expect to see immediate results and young guys playing like Seniors.

All I know is that I expect us to be MUCH better next season, and anything more than 3 losses will be really disappointing. At that point I place the blame on Shannon.

Marty I know you are old enough (like myself) to remember the Canes of the 1970's. While I still don't think we are there, but we are not far from that great lost decade.

The de-Cokerization is still not complete, and may not be complete until Shannon is gone, and a complete overhaul of the football program is exercised. I used to think Shannon was the man for the job, but he showed me last night why he is not a coach that will ever lead the Hurricanes to not only a National Championship, but not even maybe to a ACC Divisional Championship. Based on what we have seen in the last 3 Hurricanes games, they are not on track to be better next year. I believe with this coaching staff they cannot ever achieve greatness, and this staff is at best mediocre. The talent alone may win them 7 games next year, but in those other 6 games, where coaching will make a difference, the hard working kids will be let down. In almost every instance in the last two seasons under Shannon, when he could have coached them to a difference, he has failed.

I am done supporting Randy Shannon. I still love and root for my Alma Mater, but I will never feel confident in this staff, especially the OC Nix. I hope Shannon doesn't just fire Nix to keep his own job. That would be pulling a "Larry Coker" (as in when he fired Solly, the OL coach who's name escapes me, and Lee the QB coach) just to buy himself one more year. It was those 3 right ? I am getting old and can't always remember like I used too .

If I had a kid who was being recruited by Miami, I would definately think twice about allowing him to attend. I am not seeing what I think is a program on the rebound, but one that is still lost and trying to rely on its long lost reputation.

Be expecting to be disappointed. Unless some drastic coaching transformation happens to Shannon, and he is able to channel the ghosts of Knute Rockne, Bear Bryant and Bud Wilkinson he is doomed to failure. Ultimately HE will cost us the big game, and not the players. I have that little confidence in this man at this time.

Such a disappointment because I was relishing that Shannon might be the 1st African-American college coach to win a National Championship, and that it would be Miami where that historic championship would happen. I will be very surprised if that were to happen. Its possible, but I am begininng to think it wasn't just all Larry Coker in the slide and demise of the great Miami football program.

Thank God Canes baseball starts in 8 weeks. :wink2:

Maybe they can overcome the loss of Eric Erickson, much like the 1999 Hurricanes overcame the loss of Burrell, Huff and Michaels and still went on to win the 1999 National Championship.

I just don't think it's fair to expect Freshman to pick up everything the staff is teaching them and play a high level of football against every tough team. Remember that a lot of these guys aren't even done growing. Haven't had a full season of technique work under their belts, and have lost to some tough opponents.

It very well could be Shannon, but I do think he needs another year at the least.

Well the last part is what is TRULY sad. I think many of the Miami fans are just pathetic in the way they harp on the past like the future is a right just because we had 25 years of dominance. We are becoming "Pitt". They have, what, 9 National Championships ???? Last one in 1976 I think......and done nothing since then. But miracles of miracles, Dave Wannstedt has them at least back to Top 20 to 25 respectability. Do you honestly see Miami as a ranked team to start the 2009 campaign ? I don't.....I don't see us better than 5-3 in the division next year, and probably no better than 4-4. Couple that with an expected loss to Oklahoma here in Miami, we should be the exact same 7-5 next year. That is if we win 4 ACC games. That is not a given. Will a 7-5 be enough for Shalala to get rid of Shannon next year ? Will the race card be helpful for Shannon to keep his job ? Will the recruiting card be used ? It could become quite ugly next year, and is Kirby Hocutt the man to take care of this and make some very difficult decisions ?

Those that proclaimed a National Championship for Miami in 2009 or 2010 had better look at that again and think about reassesing that position. Just because we recruited kids with top pedigree's doesn't mean it will translate at the next level without championship caliber coaching.

And I remember those 1960's Hurricanes too as I was a pre-teen at many of those memorable games in the 60's....who can forget beating the mighty Trojans of USC 10-7 in 1966, tieing the Fighting Irish 0-0 in 1965, and beating the Gators in 1967 in the OB. We had some good times in 1966-68 when Teddy Hendricks was the heart and soul of the Canes. Its then that I was 8 years old and never, EVER thought about going to matriculate at another school. My days in Jr and Sr high were all about earning a scholly to The U.

Freshmen ? Spencer Adkins ? Jason Fox ? Glenn Cook ? Romeo Davis ? Antonio Dixon ? Chavez Grant ? Dude....this team is not all frosh or sophs. Many of those participating last night were recruits with top-grade pedigree's and most will leave Miami, never to play again, as they never lived up to the supposed potential. Some of that is on them, but I am begininng to think a lot of it is on the less than spectacular coaching we have had here since Butch Davis departed and Larry Coker took over.

I am not yet calling for Shannon's head. I am just on the sidelines, and would not be unhappy to see his exit. But give him next year, and remember my prediction......no better than 7-6. Hopefully then a complete washing of the laundry will happen.

I know what you mean. He's a great disciplinarian, and he might just be better at being simply a defensive coordinator. I'm not sure if he'll get rid of Nix or not, I would hope he does at this point.:shifty: Great post, btw.:knucks:

I have no problem with the way he runs the program from a standpoint of discipline. Its something that if Larry Coker had done more of, he would have won more games. I think the lack of those principles during Coker's time helped slide the program down the slippery slope. Coker wanted to be everyone's friend, instead of their coach. It doesn't work that way with championship teams. I'm sure Sparano is not best friends with his players. They like him, and they respect him, but they don't all sit around and sing Kumbaya with him either.

We learned that Cameron is not a HC, and I am afraid that the same may be said of Shannon.

I think its both to be honest. You look at the guys on our squad and they are smaller than other players at schools. We played a heck of a lot freshmen this season and they're just not ready. Their bodies aren't developed and same goes with the interior defensive line. Marcus Forston is a dominating player coming out of HS but he's currently a bit on the small side. I thought he did pretty well this year for a freshmen, displaying great quickness and strength off the LOS but he did get moved around in the run game.

Kevin, our freshmen are much better than our upper classmen and the names you list are not exactly bright spots. The reason we aren't a top, power-house program is simple in my eyes. Its Larry Coker. Yes he won 60% of his games or whatever that number was but he completely destroyed the talent level. I remember reading him saying he wasn't recruiting in our OWN back yard. That's not going to work. The talent level had to be rebuilt and it started in this past recruiting off-season. I thought we did well this off-season, recruiting some good talent and now we're back at it. Only problem is that Shannon doesn't have any clue how to recruit offensive linemen. We need many. The other problem IMO is Nix. He's just god awful.

Agreed Alen, the cupboard was almost bare once Coker was shown the door. Just to highlight the point name one decent WR or QB that Coker recruited? You cant name one can you?

We have to recruit in South Florida and that is exactly what Coker shied away from. He tried to bring in 5* kids from all over. Thats not what the U is all about. It will take 3 years of consistent top 10 classes to get the Hurricanes back to a consistent top 15 program year in and year out.

Last year was a pretty big class and next year will be another 24 to 27 recruits. Seniors leaving and others transferring. Now we have a QB and WRs, we need OL recruits and RBs, especially big backs. Bryce Brown, Mike James and Lamar Miller are all bigger backs and are verbals right now. We are working overtime on the OL recruits and I think we end up with 6 or 7 commits.

Defense we need to continue to shore up the DT and DE position and heavily recruit the defensive backfield. We may only bring in one or two LBers this class due to the large signings last year. Look for 5 or 6 DBs 2 or 3 DTs and 2 OR 3 DEs.
