Dolphins look to their future, but they'll face their past in the playoffs I knew that a new regime was costly for the owner. I have never seen a figure placed upon it though. I assume that the figure didn't even include their first year salary. Staggering numbers to say the least.
Yep, Cameron, Capers, the old Oline coach had big money contracts, Wayne H had to eat them all to bring in Sparano and Tuna...and Tuna cost 3 million upfront and 5% of the Franchise... To put that into perspective, the Lions supposedly will not bring in a Tuna or a Pioli because it would cost 7 million to turn over their Football Operations..
you cannot say that H.Wayne didn't do everything possible to make us a winner, including the loss of 27 mill.
Is it just me, or do statements like this make you a little sick? The thought of even having $27 mil to 'throw away'...
Nothing to be sick about. Wayne deserves all the props and credits. Its a business, money spent (including guarantees and buyouts) are sunk costs. Sunk costs in business that equal dead weight and bad fits are expenses (losses) that wont be recovered. The term cutting your loses applies perfectly.
i think it is a testement to how Wayne has always tried to do right- and pay whatever it takes to be right. Cameron and company were either expensive holdovers or picked by mueller. Huizenga paid 27 million to clean house and instill a fresh- and finally right- look to this team.
I too will miss Wayne. I think he leaves a little too early. I wish we could of won a SB or two with him. He tried very hard.
i hope Wayne decides to change his mind. I am going to miss him and i am worried this new owner wont do the same to win, hope im wrong though!
Oh, I didn't mean that I thought Wayne did not spend the money wisely... just from my own personal perspective of being able to just write off that much money. Like, what could I do with $27 million...
Wayne sure had a big smile on his face as the TV cameras showed he and his wife in the sky box. It was interesting that they said Parcells hadn't attended any of the Dolphins away games and was back in Miami watching the game on TV. Bill Parcells can certainly be proud of what he has put together in Miami. He has definitely returned pride to a downtrodden Dolphins organization. Congrats Bill.
I cant agree with that. He let Wanny hang around FAR to long, made an error by bringing in Saban while giving him a clause that let him leave whenever he wanted, penalty free, and then brought in Cam, a great coordinator who was not ready to be a HC. He heart has always been in the right place though and money has never been an issue when it came to trying to make this team better. He is a top 10 owner for sure and maybe top 5 but I dont know that he is THE BEST owner in the league.
With a little luck, we could send him out with the ring this year! What a fairy tale ending that would be.
Thing is most owners don't know much about football. And some probably think they know too much for their own good(Jerry Jones). You can't blame Wayne getting it wrong with Wanny, Nick, and Cam. The whole 1-15 to 11-5 turnaround started with Wayne. If he doesn't eat those contracts, hires Parcells, who brings in Tony, Dan, Chad, etc.. we're probably sitting on 4 wins at most at the moment. If there are other owners out there who want to win more than Wayne I'd like to see them. Just look at our very own division with the Bills. Wilson is always finding "bargain" coaches and the fan base suffers in mediocrity. I love Wayne and everything he did for us. We now have the perfect situation where a real "football guy" is playing owner with the owner's money and I'm really hoping Mr. Ross isn't going to go Jerry Jones or Al Davis on Bill
Why does Wayne want to sell the team? I really hate to see him go. This guy has done everything right in trying to build a winner. In retrospect, maybe the decisions weren't all great. Bringing in Jimmy Johnson (fans loved it), bringing in Saban (fans loved it), bringing in Cam (fans were excited for an offensive minded coach), and then Parcells. You can't ask more of an owner then what Wayne has given. Hate to see him leave.
He has stated that he wants to sell the team before Obama raises taxes on the rich. Obama has proposed raising taxes for those who make $250,000 and up from 36% to 39%. And for this, they accuse Obama of Socialism. Apologies for getting political. I've stayed away from the POFO since the election. I saw no reason to gloat
How much does it cost to fix a sinking ship. This franchise is worth 1000 million . 27 million is 2.7 percent. It sounds like good business to me .The ship is no longer sinking .In fact its back in the running for the Americas Cup .
wow, 27 million? Thats a whole lot of money to get rid of a whole lot of junk. Seems well worth it at this point now i think
GH, to be accurate its about Capital Gains tax on sales such as this. Wayne has been planning on selling, and would rather sell now, with lower Capital Gains tax on his profits from the sale, then waiting and selling after Obama's stated plan to raise CG tax. Its not about INCOME tax, its about CG tax.
I must have missed the statements on capital gains. From what I have read about the issue last year, the issue was more about estate taxes than anything else.
