The Miami Hurricanes streak of 14 straight years with a #1 draft pick will come to an end. This might be one of the most impressive streaks in all of sports. It is hard enough to have a #1 pick from your roster 3 years in a row....let alone 14 straight years. Look at the mighty powers in this decade. USC....they haven't had a 1st round pick every year. Ohio St....ditto. UGA....same. Hopefully this streak will get the respect it deserves after the 1st round is over in this years draft. Odds are you won't see something like this again from any school. Maybe Reddick could slip into the end of the 1st round like Phillips did last year. However, that is very very unlikely.
I'm more impressed by the sheer quantity of amazing pros the Canes have produced, first round or otherwise. Just this year, 4 Canes were their team's starting tailback (Gore, McGahee, Edge James, Portis). There are only 32 teams. Also 3 Canes had over 100 tackles(Ray Lewis, Jon Vilma, Beason). And then there's Ed Reed who has no peer.
And that was Antrel Rolle making a big defensive play as a starter for a team heading into the divisional round of the playoffs.
And Andre Johnson may arguably be the best receiver in the league. He made one the best catches of the year against the Phins on a 4th down to extend the Texans winning drive.
Studs went to FSU? I remember their studs only managed to accumulate a safety (which our punter did as a way to save a TD) against "us" in the National Championship Game Jan 3rd, 2001. But who's keeping score.
Darnell busted through the OL, probably knocking either a South Florida lineman or a U guard silly and forcing the fumble. Apology accepted.
