This contradicts everything I've read. And I'm not buying it since Brown isn't talking. He's taking the same approach his brother took last year with all the statements coming through representative Brian Butler.

Only comment I've seen him make is about his visit to Miami being pushed to January 30th.

Then again - if you follow this stuff, you know not to pay attention to anything said because these kids like to play the game.

Look at Preston Parker. 4 Days before he signed with FSU - he was seen and pictured flashing the "U" wearing a Miami hat knowing all along he'd be a Seminole. Brandon Harris played the game last year by insisting it was a wide open race and that he was having a hard time deciding between UCF and Miami. Ramon Buchanon went back on his "solid" UF commitment and ended up signin with us. I could go on and on..but I value my job.

Everyone has an opinion on Bryce Brown, and with good reason...he is that good. UM will have a darn good class and is on the come back with or without Bryce Brown...BUT with him he instantly can make this a top 10 team IMHO...again it is only my opinion but as I said in another thread this kid is the best 1 or 2 HS football players I have ever seen....IMHO he is better than Adrian Peterson, Marcus Dupree, Bo Jackson and more complete than the closest RB to him out of HS, Hershel Walker. When you watch him there are no tools that are not Off the chart good, and his feel and instincts are fantastic.

The kid is just unbelievable if he had average measurables...but he is strong as an Ox, 235-240 and runs a legit sub 4.4 with GREAT hands and can block.

His recruitment is despite many Cane fans bias being handled the right way IMO....he committed early to a program, that program "lost" their OC, he never has decommitted, but made his visits and had his backup plan in place in case he had to make a change or was blown away by a school. He is waiting to see who the OC is and IMHO it really is 50-50 with Oregon and UM.....either team is instantly a legitimate top 10 team, and if the Canes young guys develop...a big if...then they have the talent to win the ACC and be a BCS team next year and compete for a NC the year after.

I VERY seldom gush over prospects and usually focus on their negatives...but this kid is the real deal and future first RB off the board and top5 NFL draft pick IMO.

All I know is that he was qouted saying that Oregon was his leader. Yes he is waiting for them to get an Offensive Coord. but I don't think that has everything to do with it. Hopefully he goes to where ever he is most happy.

I would love to see him a Cane, but he is so pleasing to watch play I just hope he stays healthy, and is happy and is utilized correctly...which since he can do it all should not be hard...I just loved watching the guy.

I do not think Miami would be in the hunt if his brother were not a Cane. We will see; he seems like a class kid and I personally wish him the best wherever he ends up..it is refreshing to see good kids that are great football players thinking with such foresight.....I wish Cane fans would not hammer the kid because of their own personal rooting interests, and look at his situation without the bias....

I am not so sure that is the case at all with Bryce, how did we get his brother down to Miami then? With the Brown brothers and especially how spiritual they are I think Randy's style of recruiting really hits home with them and other recruits.

It has been well known that Randy almost always discusses life and other aspects of University life with recruits instead of Football as was hammered home with the quotes from Oliver Vernon above.

Granted there are some recruits that only want to hear about how great they are and how soon they will get to play, but there are many that appreciate the discussion of growing up, life and having a degree even more.

Please do not shoot the messenger. Since I saw the Bryce Brown thing this morning I have been doing some checking and it looks like Bryce Brown will not be joining the U. Rumors every where that Arthur Brown has been unhappy and does not know if he even wants to stay with the Canes anymore. Rumors have that he told his brother to find somewhere else to go. Now it is just rumors, But I know the source and find him reliable.

The rumors on AB supposedly being unhappy have been floating around for 6 months and thats all they are, rumors. That was started by someone who decided since AB did not start as a true freshman he must be unhappy and is so far from being truthful it is funny.

Yes he did Alen. Fact is Arthur is physically ready to start, but he had some trouble grasping the entire playbook and some issues with technique. If he is not starting next year I will be stunned.

Yep. However, I've heard that the coaching staff may be more impressed with Jordan Futch, which is a surprise I may add. Furthermore, there is talk of Colin McCarthy getting kicked inside, provided that Sean Spence puts on weight. He must, he came in at 200 max and the talk was that he was up to 210 prior to the season but lost all of the weight he gained due to excessive playing time. Also, there's Ramon Buchanon who could be a factor this year, provided he gets up to 225 - that's where I'm thinking he could get up to and not lose any speed.

There is always spin and we seldom know what is truly going on ...so we either speculate or take what we are told as being the truth......these "rumors" may all prove true...we get fooled sometimes...Saban taught us that...but Bryce Brown has said Arthur is happy on rivals interview right before the AA game....AB said it to a Miami reporter, Cooper has leaked it that AB is very happy, The Brown advisor has said Arthur is happy, the family has always been truthful, AB's recruitment was very classy and above board..so in this case i am going to take those statements as truth until they are proven otherwise...as hard as it is to believe.....kids and adults will lie and create doubt in order to benefit the schools they support....can you believe that......crazy isn't it.......hard to believe....that would be sarcasm BTW.....

I'd be shocked if Canes Hoops doesn't fall into last place in the ACC next year without McClinton and Collins. I just don't see the talent on this team, and I definitely don't see the coaching. No way in hell.

I know this is college board regarding college sports of any kind, and right now my Canes are playing THE University of North Carolina, ranked #6, behind 43-57. I'm up in Raleigh, NC, so it's a big deal up here. Let's go Canes!

We were up 32-21, then fell down 36-32 at the half because our coach can't call a timeout and make the necessary adjustments. At least it's not as bad as that 24-point lead blown at home against Ohio State.

Well, damn. It was UNC, the Godfather team of College Basketball, so it's not THAT disappointing. I just hope we do better against FSU this week to make up for it. Go Canes, it's all about the :theu:

    TIFWIW -

I'm hearing that the $700/yr offer has not been confirmed however they have offered more than Miami can match.

His ties to OSU are whats going to make it tough to keep him even if we do up the ante. However, I say we dont and let him walk. He already makes more than Charlie Strong and Bud Foster. Thankfully he's not one of our major recruiting horses so I don't think the impact on that front will be as big. Barrow, IMO, is not ready to take over. If Young does leave, we gotta look at bringing back an old friend in Tubberville.

    Goodbye Bill Young..

Pickens and his deep pockets were too much for Miami to match.

That's two coordinators we need to replace now. RS is going to earn his money this offseason.

I hate saying this but there's just no denying it - this program is in complete shambles. And I'm not so sure Kirby and Co. can get this thing turned around without serious support from Shalalah and the Administration.

As bad as things were during the probations years - I never felt quite as bad as I do now. Back then - we had an excuse - right now we have none.

Or none that I deem reasonable. Coker was bad and he failed miserably as a recruiter leaving the cupboard quite empty but to think he alone is responsible for this mess is pretty naive.

I understand the road RS is taking. He's hellbent on filling this roster with loads and loads of talent. It's the only way his hard *** disciplinarian method will work. If you don't do what you are supposed to - then sit your *** on the bench - we have someone better to replace you. It works at schools like USC and Florida where kids feel like they need to make 20 tackles or score 3 tds to keep their starting job. I'm fine with this approach and understand it's going to take time, perhaps another recruiting class or two - but we have to start seeing some improvement on the field in the form of wins. Replacing co-ordinators every year is bad for progress and something has to be done to remedy this - if not - I can see RS losing his job and we're back to square one in 2 years.

These are dark times in Coral Gables.

Dubfire I hear you, and I agree to a point, these are definately tough times in the Gables. However I am thinking that this actually may be the defining moment for RS. The right hires, at this time could mean the next 5 to 7 years of good times back on San Amaro Drive.

Losing the DC this late might really hurt in recruiting. I had been hearing Ray Ray was not solid so this definetly did not help.

I'd be happy with John McNulty as the OC.

McNulty passed on the UM job the first go around because of the lack of talent on the offensive side of the football. Now, he likes what he sees -- except for the offensive line. McNulty apparently would like to bring assistant coach Kyle Flood with him. Rutgers gave up the fewest sacks in the nation under Flood in 2007 and 2006. As for McNulty, Rutgers set school records for total offense (5,841 yards), points scored (421) and first downs in his first full season in 2007. The Knights also became the first Bowl Subdivision team to boast a 3,000-yard passer, a 2,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers in the same year.

Per Manny from the Herald. Do not sleep on McNulty, he has done an exceptional job with the offense of Rutgers since he has been there and you can look at the recruits who are now playing in the NFL or will be drafted this year as proof in the pudding so to speak. Now imagine that kind of production with the young talent Miami has at the skill positions.

Bye the way, for anyone passing on rumors about losing defensive recruits since Young has now left for Okie State, keep in mind Young was hardly involved with recruiting and most have never even met him.

    http://miamiherald.typepad.com/umiami/2009/01/bill-young-bolts-for-oklahoma-state.html

Hurricane fans need to relax and let the dust settle, Randy is not rushing into hiring an OC or DC right away as he wants to make sure he hires the right person who can run the offense and defense to best prepare recruits for the next level.

The sky is not falling, the sun will rise tomorrow and the Canes will be back in the National spotlight in due time.

Skeet...where did you hear Ray-Ray was not solid....my contacts have told me the opposite and he and Dye are actually recruiting Debose to change his commit from UF...doubt either happens....but I am curious as to where that info would come from...my contacts are inside the program and not reporters...so I am curious if it is a rogue reporter or someone inside the building.......

OC is by far the more important hire......that hire effects recruits at skill positions and talent will make a great coach. The right OC hire and we could lock down Bryce Brown and who knows with Rueben Randle coming for his official what could happen.......can you imagine RR and BB with a settled soph. QB and decent OC. If you look at the rivals recruiting page....Young was not recruiting any of these kids and I doubt has any impact of the defensive recruits. Hopefully the OC is set by the weekend and the following weekend RR and BB get to meet him..........

OC hire does have a big impact but the overall effect of these transitions and off season is we have upgraded our OC even if we hired Mickey Mouse, got rid of a problem child in Marve, and further purged the program of kids that do not like to work or compete, have another very good recruiting class that has the potential if we could somehow land BB and/or RR to go down as one for the ages following one of the best in UM history,....personally I think things are on the way up not down...if we hire a DC that contnues with the aggressive packages and is committed to the U then things could really be stable for a long time.............change is not always a bad thing.......

Yeah I am very curious where Skeets heard that...I have not even heard even a peep along those lines, not even the echo of a peep, and as I said RR has actually told a couple people including a player not to write in stone that AD was going to sign with UF......

There was a Gator mole on Canesport that said something along the Ray Ray lines that Skeet referred too, and it got no play and 2 shot it down directly and that is a pretty direct source. You can basically say anything to start a rumor on those boards, which is why I pay them little attention, other than some of the more posters with a longer history of actually giving good info ....so the source of Skeets info has me curious as a cat........................

Agreed, purging the program of a malcontent like Mavre that does not want to compete for the starters job or any others for that matter was paramount. Did anyone ever hear Jacory crying he was not the starter? Answer, no, he kept his mouth shut and worked harder, now he is the starter. I would love to see us retain Bryce Brown, getting Reuben Randle would make this class sick, just insanely sick. More importantly though, we have to lock down more and better OL recruits. We are off to a good start and are in the mix for several others down the stretch, now we need to close well.

I view it the same way, Nix was not working out and I hated his offense. Just never looked like we had an identity. Make the change and get your guy in there to run the offense you want. BTW, I HATE the spread offense, if I am a recruit and want a better chance to go pro, I go to a pro set offense end of story. If Tebow was playing in a pro set offense for the last 3 years and making progress every year would anyone have any questions on whether or not he can make the jump to the NFL? Answer, no way Jose.

Just a heads up, the rumor is Shannon is possibly looking at bringing in Willie Martinez from UGA as the new DC. He is an alum and has shown interest in coming back home from what I hear.

All good stuff guys, thanks for getting us some insider info ! These are tough days for those of us who don't exactly know what is going on inside the program. I used to have many contacts when I was deeply involved with the Alumni Assn, but that was a long time ago.
