Miami Herald reporting that Darrius may be our pick at #25 and Wilford is/will be out. . Link: http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/story/882201-p2.html QUOTE from above: ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.'s first mock draft has the Dolphins taking Maryland receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey 25th overall, but this Dolphins administration typically believes it can find receivers later in the draft. . . . The Dolphins have decided not to try to salvage the Ernest Wilford project -- he is expected to be cut (or, much less likely, traded) in February. Discuss. .
I don't see it happening. Way too raw for us to invest the 25th pick. If its a wide receiver in the first, I'm thinking Hakeem Nicks and it stops there - that is unless Kenny Britt manages to run a 4.4 forty.
his lack of production scares me a bit. He was the only real target on that team but his numbers were only okay.
I agree with that notion, from what I've heard, Bey went games without a catch for a mediocre MD team...how does that happen? Nicks on the other hand ate some pretty decent Cb's lunch this year.
The only way we go WR with our 1st is if we rehire Cameron and Muller. Be prepared for the big uglies to be on the menu early on.
I don't know about that. To my knowledge, he only has two catch-less games in his Maryland career, each being in a different season.
ESPN radio on at work with Kiper saying one game this year he only touched the ball on an end around and that sometimes he would disappear in games.
That's true. I thought you meant he went games, like consecutively, without a catch. My fault on the misinterpretation.
I guess we're lucky that Kiper's draft skillz suck, plus this is only his first one of the year. If we pick a WR first it will either be Hicks, Harvin(if he slides past the Patsies) or Britt.
Doubt it. Highly doubt it. We have a guy like that already, Ted Ginn and when you add Harvin's durability issues, I don't see it happening.
My bad Alen, I took Kiper at face value and he mentioned that as a downside of Bey's game. I sort of like Nicks and Barden though, Muck posted those .gifs of Gadsden on the CFL thread and Barden reminded me of Gadsden a heck of alot. Nicks has history going against him, but I would not mind or complain if we took him at #25...but Oline at #25 and Barden at #57 or Britt at #44 would be fine with me. What I'd love to see is using the #5-7 picks all on Cb's who run 4.4's or 4'3's and Safety...just shotgun the position with guys who can cover all over the field but really can't tackle in College.
He's still no different when it comes to ability. When it all boils down, they're both dynamic players and are small. We need a bigger wide receiver and not as raw.
I dont see how we dont go defense. We desperately need a passrushing linebacker, who can also drop into coverage and actually stop short to intermediate passes. I know Parcells says he would like to see more offensive fire Power, but that could mean anything
Nicks would be a good value Aqua, none of those players, English, my guy Sean Smith or Delmas are likely to be dominant/best at their positions type players, Nicks has a shot at being that sort of player. But Tuna would have to be drugged first..
Would never happen, Jerry Jones would trade away the new stadium to move up and nab him if he did start slipping.
Yea we are talking about DHB at the ravens forum too... i hope we dont take him.. first round is too high for both of our teams needs... he is raw and undeveloped. His stats are misleading because he never had a QB that could hold onto a ball let alone throw it
Thats a big reach for a team with many needs. IMO I believe we will grab either Maybin out of Penn State or a playmaking corner. We will address the WR position I say maybe 3rd round. But, Im no Mel Kiper Jr....I have better hair
Hey 13! I took your advice and rolled on over here. Its a good way to shed a certain persona that got a tad out of control
Mel's first mock came out about a week ago and it appears we all think that Heyward-Bey is a real reach for us. Kiper stuck in WR for us because the fact remains that our WRs, as a whole, are lacking. That's fine, but if he took the time to think about who is running the show here, he'd have obviously seen that this regime does not like to nor is inclined to take a WR that high, especially if the guys that are available are in the second tier of WRs in the draft this year. That said, I expect this regime to find a solution to our WR issues via other means, be that FA or later in the draft or sticking with what we got and adding another UDFA or someone available later in the year... As for my reasoning for this, it's simple. We have too many other holes that need to be filled via the draft. If you recall last offseason, we seem to fill mainly depth positions in FA and drafted to build the core of the team. The late addition of Penny may have skewed things for the Trio, but they'll still build the core via the draft...the LBs, DTs, CBs, and OL depth that we need will come via that method, IMHO....
I doubt this regime takes a WR at #25, but I wouldn't be against Nicks. I'd be alot happier than the last time we took a WR in the first round.......
