I still dont see the logic in passing up a possible franchise making back. If we let him go and Brown gets hurt again, people will question the decision 10 fold.

The logic is that we have TWO franchise backs already.
IF we take him and Ronnie comes back 100%, Ricky comes back as good as ever, and McFadden sees the ball 5 or 6 times a game....while teams are busting a buck fifty rushing on us every week, there's gonna be a hell of a lot more questions about how we could be so stupid as to leave Dorsey sitting on the table so that we could draft into our greatest strength. I imagine people would say. "That is the dumbest thing I've ever seen any team do in the draft"....and I'd agree whole heartedly.

Peterson has been great and will be alot of credit for Minnesota. Though they've got the best run defense in the league. More importantly they play in the JV conference. LaDainian Tomlinson was not a franchise changing RB untill the Chargers became a better team around him.

I think Dorsey is the best player coming out of college. Plus I think teams need to build inside-out.

I don't see the logic in paying $35 millon to a RB who isn't the consensus #1 pick in rankings (Dorsey is), when your paying $22 million to a RB who was leading the league in yards from scrimmage just cause some fans are concerned about 2 freak accidents. Especially when your run defense is 32nd in the league. Especially when your team has more holes then swiss cheese.

Curious, why is it that the Texans didn't draft Vince Young...hmm...

Could be "because they already had spent a #1 pick on a QB and didn't need another one..."

    Sounds strangely familiar..

Dorsey is, now how can that be, he has played injured all season, even when healthy in 2006, he was never considered the #1 pick, and now he has vaulted to #1 in the draft status?

Consider that if we draft Dorsey, who will be our starting backfield in 2008? Jesse Chatman, the still green John Beck, and Reagen Mauia.

The only way it would make sense to draft Dorsey is if he has a freakish Combine, like a 4.6 combine 40 ala Reggie White, if not, take a pass.

No offense man but you really need to type a coherent sentence.
I'll respond to the best of my ability.
    1) Ricky was also traded because his Social Anxiety Disorder was clearly showing.

    2) If it wasnt for Cleo's pick Ronnie would still be on the field, aside from his first year he's just had some bad luck. You dont trade your best player its as simple as that.

    3) I was refering to his bad senior year which wa associated with his "coke abuse"

Ronnie was not a game changer? Not fast? Have you seen him play? He is a stud, he lead the league in Total Yards from scrimmage.
And he cut back on the "dancing".

I have not read the whole thread, but I have a feeling that NE will not be picking top 5 or even top ten. That team is loaded with talent, but some of that talent is starting to get old on D. I could very well see them trading with Dallas for their 2 number 1s, and thumbing their nose at the NFL "see we will still pick 2 times in the 1st". They can afford to get less chart value, as where we can't drop that far down in the draft. And the Dallas owner is way high on DM, from what I understand.

Dorsey has been a top 5 lock for a long time. the earliest 2008 mocks had him going top 5 before the season started. and he's still going top 5. great player.

    Or flawed rating system.

The guy thought about coming out in 07, he was never discussed as a possible #1 pick, he hasn't played at high level this year, and now he theoritically vaulted over Okoye's #10, into the #1 spot?

Do not trust these Greeks, there is trickery in the air....

Vince wilfork is 320, Jason ferguson is 315 i think, and Jay Rattlif is 300 .... Dorsey is 300 and runs a 5.05 ... wilfork when drafted weighted 323 and ran a 5.2 ... as for the height they are the same... so basically, we get a DT 20 pounds lighter than Wilfork, but has .15 more of speed... I think it is a very fair compromise and that the whole thing about Dorsey being undersized is crap, he is big and can easily get bigger in time... he won't have to put time in school and homeworks and will have more time for conditionning..... I'd love the McFadden pick, but with our RB situation that is comfortable and our team that is pitiful, we shoudn't draft that luxurious RB and go for the usefull and much needed talent on the Dline that will instantly make our defence better

    probably for many reasons:

1-History of attitude problems with miami players (which new england don't care about...look at merryweather)

2-Importance of the position... not many teams played that 3-4

3-Quality of players in that draft... maybe 1 or 2 that were major busts, but others are darn good players

    4-He wasn't ranked #1 Dtackle

I am very aware of the fact that you are talking about drafting a DT 1st overrall, but if it comes down to it because we can't trade down, it is the player you've got to claim.

So I guess there weren't ANY defenders in college football who did play at a high level, huh??

Don't get me wrong....I'm not using that award as a predictor of NFL success, just to counter your argument that he hasn't played at a high level this year.

He hasn't played at a high level this year? I wonder why he won the Bronco Nagurski Trophy that is given to the best defensive player in college football then?

Glenn Dorsey, before being illegally chop blocked by Chaz Ramsey against Auburn, was as dominant of a defensive force that college football has seen in a long time. This is a guy that offensive coordinators changed their blocking schemes to account for. In LSU's defense, he showed a lot of versatility of playing inside at tackle as well as outside at end, and when he was at end, he looked better than most of the defensive end prospects out there.

Dorsey would have been a top 15 pick had he declared last season. He was a lock for the top 5 before this season ever began. He's a complete stud of a defensive tackle.

The only way it makes any sense for the Dolphins to pass on Dorsey and take McFadden is if they find out that Ronnie Brown has developed some sort of infection in his knee that has cause osteonecrosis and will keep him out for the 2008 season.

the pats have a good RB and the neeeeed youth a LB so the will either trade down (because of the money/cap room..they are gonna be hurting in cap after resigning moss, samuels and a few other) or take laurinitis (i hope not cuz he is a beast) or dan connor. LB is the biggest need. ted brusci will be FA and probably wont sign him, seau is old, mike varable* is old. the need LB more than RB. plus i dont see them having #2 pick. more like 4 or 5 pick

Wilfork played too fat at Miami. He was in the 345-350 range his final two seasons and that really cut back on his disruptive ability in the 4-3, compared to his freshman year in '01. I watched him every play and he'd take plays off routinely, trying to save himself for the key plays where he needed the energy.

That no doubt caused him to fall in the draft. He lost plenty of weight in the offseason leading up to the draft, but when the film shows less than ideal intensity level there will be question marks and teams will look elsewhere.

I was sick when he went to NE because it seemed like a perfect spot for him, able to two-gap.

The Canes during the Coker era were horrible in making sure players stayed in shape. Seemingly every year there were high profile examples of players too damn fat. Not only linemen like Wilfork, but injured RBs like Gore and Moss. Those two guys needed to come back lighter and leaner but instead they gained weight and were ridiculously sluggish. Gore finally figured it out and resurrected his career in the NFL.

Similarly, it will be interesting to see what Ronnie Brown does next season. He's already had weight issues in the past. Next year he needs to be lighter than ever, coming off an injury.

McFadden can score from anywhere on the field, as much has I like Ronnie I can't say the same about him.How many times have we seen him breakaway and get caught, If Mcfadden is there I say we take him.We only trade the pick if we can get a blockbuster deal it may take two other teams to be involved. The back injury Dorsey has scares me.

I would say it's a two horse between McFadden and Dorsey as I think they are the two best players in the draft. Dorsey fills more of a need but age and the ACL may be factors with Ronnie. We must remember Ronnie will be returning from an ACL injury and turning 27 in the same year. McFadden, on the other hand, is six years younger than Ronnie. Back when Ronnie was drafted, I was stating his greatest drawback was his age as he was turning 24 the year he was drafted.
