According to RotoWorld http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.aspx?sport=NFL Does anyone think we should cut ties with him? I was rooting for him last year but I think Ricky may need to go, get something anything for him and move on.. Hes never going to be what we expected again.
Honestly we wouldn't miss him IMO. He's not the same player he was and lets be real here, his reasoning for coming back to football probably had much more to do with the financial issues of what he owed the Phins and the financial needs to keep up his lifestyle. I seriously doubt he's ever had real desire to be playing football since he's come back. Still he is great insurance for Ronnie and probably a clear step above Cobbs or anyone else we may bring in. I don't think $3.5 mill. cap hit is that big a deal considering the room we have. If it comes down to us needing those dollars to sign someone important then cut him, if not keep him.
I have no loyalty to Ricky Williams. He certainly had no loyalty to the Miami Dolphins organization. If we replace him, so be it. Losing Ricky would not be the same as losing Zack Thomas or Jason Taylor, guys who gave all they had while they were Dolphins.
honestly theres not much chance we can get ward at the same price ricky. keep our 3 backs together and let cobbs take some of rickys hand offs next year. theres no reason to go into next year any different at the RB position.
I don't like this at all. Ricky may not be what he once was, but he's still an asset to this team, especially the WC. Him and Ronnie seem to get along fairly well, and I'd hate to see him go. As long as the two of them can keep splitting time and stay healthy, I think he should stay.
I don't think releasing him makes sense. He is a legit #2 Rb, and I'm willing to bet he would take a little less to play here.
I think Ricky will seem more effective once we're able to effectively run block inside. Though he has lost the speed he once had, Ricky is still a north/south runner with good vision and power between the tackles. That is his game. And too often we had to bounce things outside, be it by design or otherwise. I don't see the need to bounce him.
That's a very misleading title. The article is only "pointing out" that we could save some money IF we did cut him. 100% speculation and no need for the "on the verge of being released" crap. I'd be very suprised and disappointed if this did happen.
I would not mind cutting him and draft a nice young back in the draft. Patrick Cobbs has proved that he deserves some carries as well. The only thing I will miss from Ricky our those nice catches he made to set up a couple of scores at the end of games. ( I Knwo he dropped that pass v.s. the Jets )
I would be very dissappointed and shocked if we cut him. Sparaon even stated Ricky was on of the biggest surprises he had when he got here and Ricky has been the model of being a professional. No way this happens.
The way sparano talked about ricky it seems unlikely to me but it is possible. I don't think they see him in their long term plans but I doubt releasing him now to save a couple bucks makes any sense. I would prefer if he was kept for one more season, then reevaluated next offseason.
I agree with every body that says it would not make sense getting rid of Ricky Williams. I dont think it makes much sense to clear up 3.5 million to go sign another back when Ricky Williams was a solid back this year. Plus I think Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, and Patrick Cobbs have good chemistry. I say we Ricky Williams one more year and then revaluate him next offseason.
Power? Ricky has lost a ton of it. The guy didn't run over anyone, at anytime. He got old... It happens.
He ran hard and tough all year. He caught some amazing catches. What games were you watching? I didn't miss a minute of any of them.
I agree. The title is unnecessarily provocative. Seemingly just for the sake of gaining attention. I read nothing in the article indicating that RW's release is even being considered.
I dont think it makes sense to get rid of Ricky this offseason. He was valuable last year, and with the line getting back to full strength for the new season, he will be even more of an asset. I think we should keep him this year, and draft a RB next year to work with Ronnie, and then part ways with Ricky. Lets use our picks this year to fill positions we need to fill, I think for this year we are still set at RB
Do you realize that this will be the first year in Rickys career where he actually will make some money ? Thanks to his Rapper agent he was shafted in his contract and has been playing for close to the minimum plus performance incentives ever since. Its unlikely because there are so many high profile RBs available this year and because we still need him but now that he has remained clean and proved to be a hard working player he could be trade bait again He was considered un-tradeable before.
I don't see this happening at all They signed him to a one year extension last year for a reason, not to just dump him.
I have to agree, Ricky will benefit from better blocking...I can not see cutting or trading him unless we need cap room
Master P was never Ricky's agent. Ricky signed to No Limit Sports, which was owned by Master P, but the actual agent in charge of the negotiations was an attorney. Yes, it was incentive based, but he did receive an $8.8 million signing bonus, so its wrong to say this is the first year he'll make any money. $8.8 mil was a lot of guaranteed money for a rookie in 1999. i love ricky and have faith that he is doing well in his personal life now. we are a better team with him...there were plenty of times last year where he outshined ronnie
i feel loyalty to him as well...he may be a **** up but he's OUR **** up no matter how bad of a grudge some of you still hold against him
I think Ricky should be here. Im ok with that too. He played fairly decent for being out of the game for so long.
I think it's a possibility. $3.5 million is awfully expensive for a back-up running back. It'll depend on what else is out there both at back-up rb and at other positions we may want. Cobbs did well in his small stints last season. IMO RW is a nice insurance policy but we'd probably be fine without him.
I would certainly hope not. Ricky seems to be back on a fairly even keel and has done everything that was asked of him. I want to see him remain here and finish his career with our team.
Unless one falls into their laps later in the draft, that is a better idea for next season. This year a Cb, Lb, maybe Wr and more depth on both lines is where I would go....
Pretty good info but still, you can bet he signed with them because of Master P and he could have gotten a lot more elsewhere. Hope Master P fired that lawyer.... lol
