I originally thought we'd need three, but I'm going to say one. Seriously. We actually moved up in the ACC with Virginia Tech and Maryland's latest losses. We're 7th in the ACC right now. All season ESPN's bracketology has had 7 or 8 ACC teams in the tourny... IMO, as long as we win our first round game and North Carolina holds their own in round two against their opponent, we should remain 7th. Basically if we beat N.C. State and Duke, we're going to jump over Boston College and we'll be receiving an at large bid probably as a 10th seed. I think we end up with a 12th seed with a round one win and a close loss to Duke.

It's too bad you can't challenge the team in front of you for their spot. We are a significantly better team overall than Boston College. I'd kill to play them in this tourny, but such a destiny is pretty much impossible... I don't believe in Florida State either. The only teams in the conference that I'm afraid of are North Carolina and Clemson believe it or not.

The 2-3 losses to the crap teams in the ACC killed us.

THURSDAY @ 12 PM NOON: Miami vs. Virginia Tech

ESPN is calling it THE bubble game; winner probably gets in. Loser is more than likely eliminated. I don't get it; how the hell did we finish 9th behind Virginia Tech and Maryland? Same conference record and our overall is better. I don't understand the NCAA's tie breaker system. For what it's worth, in terms of the RPI rankings we are 6th in the ACC even ahead of Boston College. Oh well... break out of your slump, McClinton. You're needed more than ever on Thursday afternoon.

Now give me Brandon Linder from STA and we have 2 true Center recruits for the class. Throw in at least 2 or 3 OT like Perry Meiklejohn and Torrian Wilson with another G prospect to boot and we finally start to turn around not only the OL lack of talent but depth as well.

I think this kid is going to turn out to be a real steal out of USCs backyard before all is said and done.

Would be nice to see dominant play to go along with the swagger again. Would be really nice to see our DL breakout with the young guys this year.

That's what this program has been missing, especially on defense. That pep in our step. Glad to see it might be back.

And regarding Canes hoops and the NCAA Tourny... Andy Katz says that two wins in the ACC Tourny should make Miami a shoe in, of course it would have to be Virginia Tech and North Carolina. He said that a win over Virginia Tech and a loss against North Carolina would still give Miami serious consideration... he actually thinks we'd get a 12 seed or so by just beating Virginia Tech tomorrow afternoon.

    Back in Miami
    I don't agree there.

I've seen this team carry PLENTY of swagger into games.
All the loud mouthing and strutting before games only to see it dissapear in an arse whippin.

As JoeyDolfan pointed out, They need to turn that "swagger" into in game results through dominant play.

    # 6 Miami 11, Pittsburgh 6 - 6th straight win

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -Jonathan Weislow's three-run homer in the fifth inning broke a 6-6 tie as the sixth-ranked University of Miami baseball team earned its third-straight come-from-behind victory in beating Pittsburgh, 11-6, Wednesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

For the third-straight game, Miami (12-2) faced a deficit of at least three runs only to come back behind big innings at the plate and near flawless relief pitching. Trailing Pitt 5-0 after 3 ½ innings, the Hurricanes rallied for three in the bottom of the fourth before a six-run sixth put UM up 9-6 after five.

Jason Santana (2-0) earned the win for the `Canes, allowing one run on just one hit while walking one and striking out two in 2 1/3 innings in relief. Behind Santana, three UM hurlers combined to keep the Panthers off the board from the sixth inning on. Travis Miller tossed two scoreless in the sixth and seventh before Rene Guerra and Kyle Bellamy each struck out two in an inning of work.

Down 6-3 to open the bottom of the fourth, Jason Hagerty drew a one-out walk before Chris Herrmann followed with a double to right. Hagerty scored on the play however, putting UM on the board as a result of a Pitt error. Two batters later, Dave DiNatale hit a deep two-run shot to right, scoring Herrmann to tie it up. Following DiNatale's blast, back-to-back walks by Ryan Jackson and Yasmani Grandal set up Weislow's homer to left on a 1-0 pitch, putting the `Canes up for good.

While only one Hurricane finished with multiple hits, five scored multiple runs on the night, with the `Canes recording nearly as many walks (8) as hits (9). Grandal had the best day at the plate for Miami, going 2-for-3 with a three-run double and the solo homer.

Pitt (4-4) received two strong innings out of its starter, Cole Taylor, before Ryan Dunford, Kevin Dooley and Mike Wood combined to give up 10 earned runs over the next four innings. Dooley suffered his first loss of the year, allowing five earned runs in just 2/3 innings.

Joe Leonard (3-for-5) and Nathan Hood (2-for-3) each finished with an RBI and a pair of runs for the Panthers.

Grandal opened the scoring UM in the fifth, hitting a bases-loaded double to right after three Hurricanes walked before him.

The Panthers scored opened the scoring in the top of the first. With the bases loaded and one out, a fielder's choice grounder brought home John Schultz for the first run of the game.

Pitt added another run in the second when a Jackson error allowed Nathan Hood to score from second, pushing the Panthers' lead to 2-0.

The Panthers scored three more in the third, capped off by a two-run double by Manoli Pahoulis before a solo homer in the fourth by Leonard put the `Canes down 6-0.

The `Canes will return to Alex Rodriguez Park on Friday for the first of three games against Atlantic Coast Conference foe Duke. Game one of the series is set for 7 p.m.

Honestly, way to disappear down the stretch this season, McClinton. He doesn't deserve his first team ACC selection. He's my favorite college athlete this program has ever had, but I'm just being honest. He completely went AWOL the final 5 games of the season when it mattered the most. This program is in serious trouble. Next year we'll be back to not even contending for the tourny. If Frank Haith doesn't get fired within the next year or so, it's going to be another long recovery.

The fall of this team this season is unbelievable... I've never seen anything like this before. Jobs need to be lost.

In McClinton's defense, he has been battling a bad knee since the BC game. So he hasn't been 100% for a while now. But its time to review Haith and his ability to lead us to the next level. The program is not in the shambles it was when Perry left, but its not all that much healthier either.

Damn shame.....was looking forward to a great run into the NCAA's. :pity:

The link is to a video of OL Perry Meiklejohn who is quitely making a move up the rankings of top OL in the state of Florda for next years recruiting class. Kid projects to OG in college with his size at 6'2" and 320 lbs.

The 1st thing that sticks out to me is the way he finishes his blocks. Granted he is more often than not playing kids 75 lbs or more lighter than him, but he takes no sympathy and more often than not his man ends up on the ground.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The sixth-ranked University of Miami baseball team snapped its seven-game winning streak with a 2-0 loss to Duke Saturday night at in front of 2,694 fans at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

The Hurricanes (13-3, 4-1 ACC) were shutout for the second time this season as Duke pitchers Andrew Wolcott and Michael Ness combined for the six-hit shutout.

The Blue Devils (10-5, 3-2 ACC) scored a run in the first before adding another in the eighth to give Wolcott and Ness all the support they needed. Wolcott (3-0), who kept UM scoreless in 7 1/3 innings, earned the win in allowing six hits and a walk while striking out five before handing it over to Ness in the seventh. Ness earned his first save, holding UM hitless in the final 1 2/3 innings.

UM starter David Gutierrez (2-1) turned in his fourth straight quality start to open the season, allowing just one run on four hits while walking two and striking out three in seven innings. Travis Miller and Taylor Wulf each tossed an inning in relief, with Miller allowing the Blue Devils second run of the contest.

Nathan Melendres was the lone `Cane to finish with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles on the night.

Alex Hassan, Jake Lemmerman and Eric Pfisterer all finished 2-for-4 while Hassan scored both of Duke's runs.

For the fifth straight game, UM's opponent got on the board first as Duke plated a single run in the top of the first. Hassan, who led off the inning with a double, scored two batters later on an RBI groundout to give the Blue Devils the early lead.

The `Canes best chance to score came in the second when Harold Martinez singled and Dave DiNatale was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with no outs. Wolcott was able to get out of the jam however, inducing a pop-out, a fielder's choice grounder and another ground-out to keep UM off the board.

Duke's eighth-inning run came across on a bases-loaded Jeremy Gould sacrifice fly.

Miami and Duke will wrap up the series Sunday at 12 p.m. Sophomore left-hander Iden Nazario (2-0, 7.26) will go up against Duke right-hander Ryan Knott (1-0, 3.00).

Bryce Brown picks Tennessee...win win......Shannon said no to his scholly and walked the walk....team first....and Brown gets school paid for and plays in a major conference.

This kid is an fantastic player IMHO and his loss from a on field perspective hurts but IMHO this puts the program and team concept before individual talent and it is not just talk...good move for both. BB makes Tennessee a contender immediately IMO.

Agreed, win win for both sides. Wish the kid well and hope he learns from the recruiting circus it turned out to be. He mentioned during the press conference

Translation, Randy told him a month ago to either commit or there would not be a scholly open for him. He has had enough.

Better Tennessee than someplace like USC, LSU or Oregon. Hopefully the Vols can give the Gators some fits now.

To be honest, Randy not only sent a message to Bryce, he sent it to recruits in the future as well. Besides, I think Mike James and Lamar Miller will turn out to be very good backs and South Florida is loaded next year.

Randy doesn't want 5 star kids who have one star mentalities. Happy the circus is over and fitting that the school with the largest recruiting budget get's his services. Methinks Brian Butler's going to be eating pretty good for the next few years.:sidelol:

Just saw it on ESPN and like Dubfire said, I'm glad it's over and done with. Now everybody can concentrate on getting ready for this season and not who's going where.

I still question his level of competition. Had he played in South Florida - chances are he may not have put up similar numbers or the flipside could have happened where the competition may made him better than he is now.

I still say he is a complete douchebag that used the man upstairs as an a copout excuse for not coming here. One douchebag deserves another. So he and Kiffin are perfect for one another.

Why I'll root against the kid and UT every time I see him is because he did not have to do what he did today. (Fact is, Miami was never an option for him today. Randy said sign on LOI Day or your offere expires and he stood by that.) Why he felt the need to continue the circus by reaching into a bag today to pull out a Miami hat only to look at his brother Arthur and say "This is for you." is ridiculous. He is an attention whore.

Dub...I get where you are coming from. but I tend to give kids more of a break than grown men...Bryce's recruitment turned into a circus for sure for whatever reason. but he is 17 and I hold no grudges because he is just a kid...now Butler.....he is useless IMHO.

You are entitled to your opinion and your questions, I do not have the same COC questions. Because of my background I tend to look at skills rather than numbers (especially in HS), and IMHO BB has the skill set that I would rank him as one of my 5 top recruits in the last 20 years. I think he is that much of a difference maker and it sucks we "lost" him but it may turn out better in the long run.....football is a team game...it is a bold analysis of his game but he is a difference maker from day 1 IMHO.

He strikes me as the type that thinks he's already made it. The kid is in for a rude awakening when he finds out he can't step on the field and dominate. The SEC ain't Kansas. I'm glad for the U, we've already had our share of Willie Williams and Lance Leggetts (IE, 5 star phenoms who weren't worth the jock strap they were issued.)

Sleazy business overwith ! Glad its all over. Miami is much better off without him, and Lane Kiffin can now deal with Mr Butler.

I would have been unhappy, and I am the record with that. Miami doesn't need him, and his traveling circus.

Who knew that God was a Vols fan? I guess an angel decended from heaven playing Rocky Top for BB. :tongue2:

I'm glad this BS is over. I wish the guy well but won't be surprised if we hear his name come up again for something off the field. Kudos goes to Shannon for sticking to his guns.

    Honestly? Worried.

Kid scares me. Lot's of red flags surrounding him and it's not like we are lacking talent or depth at RB. It's Miami not USC. Had Miami been accused of the same things USC got accused of with Reggie Bush - we would have gotten the death penalty.
