Does anyone know where Dorsey and Long stack up against the past Top DL guys in the draft (Mario Williams, Gaines Adams, Jamaal Anderson , etc). Is Dorsey the best DL to come out in a while, or would guys like Adams and Williams been ranked above him? If Dorsey is the best to come out in some time then I think we have to go with him, if he's not I say we have to trade down. McFadden would be nice, but there is not way we afford to have a #1 pick and a #2 pick in the backfield. That is way too much money.
It's a really difficult thing to do prior to seeing their combine numbers and things of that nature. I've heard Glenn Dorsey described as "the best DT prospect since..." with comparisons ranging from Warren Sapp to Tommie Harris, but who knows?
Dorsey's a DT prospect, and Chris Long is a 3-4 DE prospect, truth be told, neither can be compared to super mario, gaines, or jamal anderson. Their not the same kind of players. Chris Long is most comparable to Adam Carriker from last year's draft, except Long is a higher energy player. As for Dorsey, yeah, Warren Sapp/Tommie Harris sounds about right. Im sick of hearing about how Dorsey can't play NT or DE in a 3-4, Dorseys a phenominal talent who could easily play wherever we put him on the Dline.
From everything I have heard Dorsey is the best defensive lineman to come out in a long time. He has the ability to dominate the line of scrimmage and is a stud run stopper. He isn't a top pass rusher though from what I have read. He is still in my mind the obvious choice unless there are legit fears about his injuries, which I don't believe there to be.
If Dorsey is as good as he appears to be, I think we have to go with him (unless we trade out of course, which I think is the best option). If you look at the patriots D-Line, 3/4 players are first round picks (Wilfork, Seymour, and Warren). Before we can fix any problems on the D, we have to sure up the D Line.
I really REALLY don't like Dorsey that much, but I could come around if he wows me before the draft. But every time I've seen him, he's looked slow and lethargic. I've seen him make plays, but mostly due to missed assignments, poor blocking and good help around him. He dominated the Sugar Bowl last season, but that's one thing that bugs me about college football -- a lights out big bowl game and you can make yourself immortal.
It's hard to get a real good read on him this year though because he has been playing injured since he was hit with a chop block early in the season. Before that he was dominant though. Teams were constantly double teaming him and there was no way to stop the guy. Even playing injured though he has been very good. I mean the guy won the Lombardi award and the Outland Trophy in a "down year."
The combine/workouts are going to be the key if he goes #1 or not. He's a tad undersized, but so were Warren Sapp and John Randle. If he proves his weight room strength is well above average and has a clean bill of health, he'll go in the top 3 no doubt. Any doubts and he'll slide. Obvious stuff, but before we pencil him in as our #1 pick, we need to consider all the options.
There is a month between the last LSU game and the BCS championship, if Mr. Dorsey is not up to speed to play in that game, and he doesn't show up, then there is an excellent chance that his injuries are worse then what has been written about especially his knee.
Randy Cross on the subject just this morning - "When was the last time he's been healthy. He's been pushed around more often than not lately."
I think Dorsey is a lot of hype. I seen him fall off big time this year I know he got hurt. Looking back at the last couple of drafts. I like Okoye and Ngata over him.
Miami will not draft Glenn Dorsey! Glenn Dorsey is a classic three technique. Miami drafted a two gapping nose tackle in 2007 (Paul Solail). When Keith Traylor is used up, Solail will be on the field. With it's first pick, Miami will draft a player that has a direct effect on the passing game. If, If Dorsey was fully healthy then maybe. A DL with back problems already really scares me. Not something I would risk the first pick on. No way no how.
