Well, as you might guess... From my screen name, I am Rick Holt, currently in South Georgia, and a United Methodist minister. I became a Dolphins fan when they announced that Joe Robbie, Danny Thomas, and a few others were bringing an professional AFL football team to Miami - and I was about 15. Served a hitch in the USN during the Viet Nam war (folks, it was a war - they was shootin' going on!) mostly on a tin can chasing birdfarms (aircraft carriers) and watching out for SOV subs, etc. Went back to school after I got out, and graduated from FAU (Home of the mighty Fighting Burrowing Owls). Married, three kids in a your-mine-ours situation to a high school classmate - but got married many years later - and went to seminary after teaching in Palm Beach County for five years. Love music but I grew up with the Rolling Stones, Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Cream, Zep, John Mayall, Paul Butterfield, etc. Grew into classic and Celtic music - but learned to play 3rd base and middle guard instead, which explains missing teeth and horrible knees. I guess I am to some a certified antique flatulent one - but getting there is fun!
Am 43 and live in North Carolina. Been a Dolphins fan since I was 7 - took to the Griese / Csonka / Kiick / Warfield Dolphins and have been a fan ever since. Am married with 2 boys. One of my boys is a Phins fan - the other likes the Broncos (could be worse I guess). The NFL and college basketball are my 2 passions. I went to UNC and therefore have a strong allegiance to the Tar Heels. Actually just got back from watching their 2nd round NCAA game in Raleigh today - they took care of business on Arkansas!!!! I read more than I post, although have gotten more active posting in the last few months. I can tell there are a good group of guys here - looking forward to the Dolphins discussion.
My name is AJ, 21, from upstate NY. i have liked the Dolphins since I was a little boy (my dad liked them, so I did). I just got my Associate's Degree through a comm. college (I'm poor, too! ) and now trying to get my Bachelor's. I work at a manufacturing place, doing different projects for not very much money. I'm still not sure what I want to "do," but I think I want to be a high school history teacher. We'll see... Great to be here!

Im originally from the Northeast but currently living in Atlanta GA with my wife and two kids. Im finishing my MBA in May at which time I'll jump back into the world of consulting. I love the Dolphins with every ounce of my being and these past few years have been very tough on me from that perspective. * My favorite all-time player was Hugh Green (who I thought was our savior on Defense in the 80's) * My favorite peice of sports literature is Michael Mccambradge's Americas Game: The Epic Story of How Pro Football Captured a Nation * My favrote memory from FH was the "Jay Fiedler Wars of 2003". Many people dont remember this, but things became so heated that the Mods made a special "Jay Fielder board" and no Jay Fielder posts were allowed in the main forum Good times.
You know...... I never understood this, someone care to explain? ... Why do people dislike school during their time there and then choose to go back once they are done? Is it simply for the fun of telling people what to do? Do you like failing us? Why?
I'm Mike McGuire (aka DolfanMike) and have been a DOLFAN since the first time I watched them play in their loss to the Cowboys in the Super Bowl in the early 70's. The Dolphins are really the only Pro Sports team I follow intensely, although I also consider myself an Orioles baseball fan too. I've been with one woman pretty much my whole life other than some youthful dating, and my wife and I have been together 28 years! 19 of those married and the other 9 dating... We have 2 sons, Troy (age 17 going into the Navy next year) and Codi (age 12 and an outstanding Football player). We live in So Cal where I have served as a High School Football Coach for 23 years. The majority of that time coaching I have served as an Offensive Coordinator. I did serve as a varsity Defensive Coordinator too though for 3 seasons. In 97 or 98 I was offered the RB coaching position at the University of Hawaii, but passed it since the wife wasnt into the move and the pay was a significant drop from where I was in public high schools. So far, I've been a part of one Championship season as a player (Starting Tailback) and another as the RB coach at the school I graduated from in So Cal. Back in the playing days I earned All League, All county, and All CIF honers at RB my junior and senior seasons. I rushed for over 1,000 yards each of my 4 High School seasons. Some of my former players that you may have heard of include: Sammy Knight, Kyle Turley, Hakim Akbar (Patriots - Rams), Sean Brewer (Bengals-Texans), Kili Lefotu (Redskins) I'm proud of the fact that in the last 2 years, we have sent out 14 players on Football scholarships on the Div I, II, and III levels. My education: BA - History Masters in Education with emphasis in Sports Leadership I also have some various teaching credentials related to multiple subject classes I'm currently teaching a class for kids that are behind in credits. It's a nice switch from teaching just History (it's a class that offers all subjects to the students) and it has lots of great perks like overtime for night classes, extended day, etc. Happiest Forums moment: Catching Armondo S. from the Herald in his High-Five lie a few years ago and letting Dolfans know what he was up to.
Wow thanks for sharing. Great accomplishments you have there bro. I am surprised that the Hawaii job that was offered is a drop off in paying compared to PUBLIC schools. Wow, I guess we know the reason June Jones left.
haha...to be honest, I was always one of the weird kids who really enjoyed the classes where the teacher was interesting AND you learned a lot. I've worked in two manufacturing businesses (plastic materials and furniture haha) and I could never get into it. I really have no strong feelings for plastic or lounge furniture, so I end up being unmotivated. I really enjoy history, and people have always said I'd be a good teacher...so, those are my reasons. If I can help one kid enjoy a class that I used to hate myself, and he or she learns more than they regularly would, it would make it seem worthwhile for me. Good call though
Thanks. Yeah I dont know how many people would get into any type of furniture. Thats pretty cool though, thanks for explaining. I have always liked listening to older than me men/women for some reason, I think it is because they have interesting and important things to say. Most kids think its a waste of time listening to them, I disagree but thats just me.
I would be bummed to be an Orioles fan. No offense to any of you though, it could be worse, Royals or Devil Rays fans....good god I feel bad for them.

I am another one of those types. I like to listen to any person who is interesting or who knows more than me...usually people who are older. I've always been "too grown up" acting for my own age, and it's always put me in some weird-feeling situations. When I go to my girlfriend's family dinners, her cousins and whatnot are always talking about how cool they are or how great the school is they go to (I have a "less-cool" type of life than them, so that ends up being weird too haha). Anyway, I sit with her grandpa and talk about how our town was when he was a kid...and we sit and watch football or talk about football

Actually, the pay for a position coach at the college level is typically less that what the average HS asst. Coach makes when you throw in the teaching and coaching pay. The real money at the college level is in being a HC or Coordinator, and those jobs are extremely hard to get. I'm planning on moving up to the NCAA or higher after I retire from teaching...sometime between 55 and 60.
I know exactly what you mean.I like to listen to older people talk but I am a loud person when with friends. I like to joke around a lot and have fun at the same time as learning. I have also been told that I am grown up for my age and it does feel awkward at times because you think you might be a boring person or something lol but I love it when with older people. Thats why I respect a lot of the guys here who tell me stuff taht I didnt know about the Dolphins for example.

I got a degree in Psychology from the prestigious institution of higher learning known as Florida Atlantic University (Hoot!) (Got my AA from UCF though).. The company is part of a larger company owned by the owner of the Minnesota Timberwolves. My name is Ron and I live in Paradise. I'm married with two kids. I'm a Fire Captain at the Mokulele Fire Station, 3rd watch. Been a Dolphin fan since 1970, when i was first introduced to the TV and saw these guys with "fish" on their helmets. Didn't get to my first Dolphin game until 1999, but have been to 12 games since, including some memorable ones like Mare's game winner at Den '02, the SD fire game at Az in '03, Chi's first loss in '06, and Dan Marino's HOF induction in '05 (My wife allows me to go to at least one game a year). Miami is 8-4 with me in attendance! I've met a few Dolphins in my time... mostly since I score a media pass every year for the Pro Bowl and attend all of the practices. Word out of the NFL is that they are ready to move the game from Hawaii. That's a bummer. While most guys could care less about a meaningless All-Star game, I've scored pictures with, and autographs from all the Dolphins since 2000. Here I am, a 43 y/o professional giddy with excitement and acting like a 10 y/o about getting a picture or autograph from players from my favorite team! Is that heaven or what?
I used to live in Rockville, MD and attended "Rocking Horse Road" Elementary back in 4th and 5th grade. My brother graduated during the same time from Wheaton HS. Good to see Dolfans from MD! I remember seeing alot of Dolfans back in those days...Alot of Skins and Colts too.
I love Madden too. I have ran an online football league now for over 10 years. We started out FBpro98 and grew into Madden. We play coach mode. It's like fantasy football only we play head to head calling plays. We dont control players though. http://ccfl.leaguepulse.com/
That was true back then... I'm guessing the coach that offered the job was Fred Von Oppen, who was a total bust as a HC. He brought the program down so much that if it wasn't for June Jones, the U of H was seriously thinking of disbanding the football program. Be thankful you didn't take the job, Mike. It's a different story now, while the pay is still lower than almost all top 25 programs (yes Dolfans, Hawaii IS a Top 25 team!), it has eclipsed the one million buck mark for the HC. As for the reason June Jones left, there are a few reasons, one of which was $2.5 million dollars. Another was the ineptitude of the athletic director (since fired), and of course the big rumor that he wanted to spend more time with his child with a former vollyball All-American who lives somewhere in Texas... but you didn't hear that from me!
Haha, That sounds like a league I could join because I am pretty much miserable when it comes to playing other people.. I think my online record for Madden 08 was like 3-22.. lol. I CANNOT pass in the latest version for some reason.. The AI for the linebackers and DBs is just too good now. I must get picked off at least 4 times a game.. Its pathetic..

LOL.... To be honest, I couldnt even remember that coaches name! But yes, it was the guy just before June Jones. They had been recruiting some of our players at Jurupa Valley HS (two went to BYU, one went to Fresno State, one went to Colorado State) and I formed a friendship with their receivers coach (Coach Green) and he recommended me to the HC. I wasnt handed a contract, it was more of an invite to interview but I had the inside on it and was told that as long as I didnt blow the interview it was mine. When I looked at the pay and the cost of living there, it just didnt make sense for me at that time. Plus I love Coordinating and had a great situation. Taking that job would put me at the bottom of the ladder again. To this day I'm thankful that I learned early on to respect my wife's opinion, even when I'm sure she doesn't know what the heck she's talknig about...she's kept me from doing more than a few things that sounded good at the time and turned into disaster.
