A thing I read about Garcia may apply to Brown

I was reading an article this off-season about how teams are looking at Jeff Garcia, prior to TB picking him up.

In the article it evaluated his talent and said he could have been a top QB, but because of INJ he has been AVG at best. But that is not the part that intrigued me.

What they were saying is that teams when looking at a player that could be classified as INJ prone they have what is called a shelf life estimate (for lack of better terms).

For example teams were putting Garcia at 10-12 games a season. That means because of how he gets hurt it will be 10-12 games before he misses some due to INJ. Looking that that number I was amazed how correct it was.

I also remember this being brought up on NFLN when he got hurt this year.

So this leads me to Ronnie. I wonder if he is starting to fall in that category as well. I mean do you think you can only start depending on him for so many games? And also say your FO cannot pass on McFadden, I am sure that you will not keep a 1st overall (McFadden) and a 2nd overall (I think) (Ronnie) on the team for a long period of time. So if he does fall in this shelf life category I would think it would hurt his trade value even more.

I am not saying that you will trade him or anything like that. But IF he is falling in this category where you can only depend on him for so many games, passing on McFadden and not trying to deal your INJ prone RB might be a mistake.

Either way I find it interesting that teams now are starting to evaluate players on how many games they can depend on them for (when they have a history of INJ)

Its not really about McFadden as much as it is about Brown. Just used McFadden as an example. Heck I also could have said Felix Jones in the second if he declares.

I think Ronnie just isn't an every down back and could quite possibly be injury prone. We need to pick up another solid back to split carries and to take the load off of Ronnie. I imagine that's why we drafted Booker, but so far he doesn't seem to be panning out (it's early of course.) Ronnie only missed one game..i think, in 05, when he was splitting carries with Ricky.

...Still not interested in McFadden, it's need over greed for the Dolphins for at least the next two years.

Ronnie's injuries that have cause him to miss time, have been freak injuries. The broken hand? Come on, that's not a conditioning injury, that could have happened to anyone. The torn ACL? That happened on a pick, with Ronnie trying to reverse directions to make a play. I wouldn't label him injury prone. To me, that indicates a player that has conditioning problems that make him get common injuries. I guess we need to label Ricky injury prone too, since he tore his pectoral when some fat dude stomped on his shoulder.

i stopped reading it past ur "broken hand" part. why do we as dolphin fans ALWAYS have an excuse for cryign out loud? an INJURY is a darn INJURY. PRINCIPLE OF IT IS HE IS ALWAYS OUT. thats all that matter. Let it be a toe injury, a broken nail, a chipped tooth for alll I care. If it includes missing 4 games a year that means missing 4 games. thats all that matters buddy.

MacF scares me with those long legs and (granted, I have not seen him a lot) seems to run very upright and looks tall and thin. I wonder how he will take a pounding in the NFL.

Again, I admit, I have not seen him play much.

I actually think McFadden runs with lower pad level than Adrian Peterson.

I have only seen him in some of those videos on you tube and I tell you he looks fast and makes people miss... but none of those videos show him breaking any tackles. not saying he doesn't, but it doesn't show on the videos... to me that translates to the nfl as another reggie bush.

Including this year and his college days look at Adrian Peterson. He could be classified as "injury-prone." Guys get hurt because it's the NFL unless they're Peyton Manning or Brett Favre. If Marshawn Lynch missed any time next year should fans label him injury-prone?

Darren McFadden must Walter Payton reincarnated to fans. I don't believe Jeff Garcia is one of the most talented Qb's in the league. He fits a certain system and maybe one of the smarter Qb's in the league.

My point was that team evaluators look at certain players and labels them with a shelf life of games. I would be willing to be the same thing would happen to Ronnie IF he was dealt or hit FA.

Peterson IMO is INJ Prone. I have watched him at OU since he was there being station at Lawton and Now Killeen.

IMO McFadden runs much like Peterson with lower pad level.

But that was not the point of my post. I was saying if teams are starting to look at players in terms of dependable games well them your FO has to take a RB somewhere. I am not saying it has to be a 1st with McFadden. But I am saying if teams did this to Ronnie I bet they would give him a 10 to 12game shelf life as well.

Peterson broke his collar bone like Ginn celebrating after a TD it wans't off a contact or nething like that during the play or w/e and the other injury was off a tackle which i would consider an INJ besides that i dont recall nething else? he laso did come back in a week i believe not 4-5 games like RB avg a year not including half the year this time around.

Bottomline is that Peterson has NOT finished a full season of football since he was a freshman at OU.

So he was injured? That's the point of the thread. Some guys have different pain thresholds and will be gamers though I don't know for what. "The team," that'll cut them after they've used them up. So the guys can be spit on by the NFLPA.

Unless a guy is Mike Brown I think it's tough to label them injury prone. Football is a violent sport and it's hard for any player to stay healthy all year. How many starting running-backs stay healthy all year round? Ronnie Brown, C. Williams, M. Lynch, T. Henry, Deuce McCallister, Reggie Bush, L. Maroney, J. Addai, A. Peterson, Alexander, Rudi Johnson, Larry Johnson, S. Jackson, Benson, Brandon Jacobs, just off of the top of my head have missed time this year. I'm presuming Bush is out for the year after the report from Mortenson. Running-back is a tough position to stay healthy at because guys are getting a beating.

That's a curious concept, but still not a good justification for drafting Darren McFadden.

Brown's "shelf life" is realistically missing 2-3 games a season. This year was almost certainly a fluke, and before that he's had a history of nagging, short-term injuries.

The answer to that isnt replacing him. It's finding a guy who isnt going to be out of sorts starting for 2-3 games that doesnt cost a ridiculous amount of money. A Michael Turner, if you will.

I know I just used McFadden on the board as because if you did draft him you would likely have to deal or eventually release Brown. Where then this type of evaluation could really come into play.

But a spelling back in the ala Felix Jones if he comes out if you decide to keep him on your team.

wait...waht happened to bush? clearly missed that.

As far as RB u are right they all go down but personally when u draft BPA and if McFad is BPA most likely miami will go with BPA and trade RB. U already got Saloi with tremendous talent and ability if he gest his technique down. U got Rod W. thats 2, u got Moses Roth thats good depth/starting so so material. U get Abraham back next year, draft a DE down teh road or FA to replace lets say JT or whomever. I mean personally I think BPA with need is the best way to go about it but miami did consider peterson last year, dont be surprised if he is the pick this year. Esp with his power speed 2nd gear ability and all the other things in catching throwing etc. Kinda like LT.

good post Disgustipate regarding needing a capable back-up, which we have I believe in Jesse Chatman--maybe even Patrick Cobbs.

After seeing the things that Adrian Peterson has done this year, it really makes it hard to pass on a guy like McFadden. For me the first pick if we have it has to be McFadden, if we want Dorsey/Long, let's just trade down and get him.

What have any of those guys that you mention on Defense done to lead you to believe that they are good depth/starting material?

I know those guys are young, but all Soliai showed me was how to get mauled in the run game and how not to collapse a pocket in the pass game. Again, I know he's young, but you can't rely on him to be your guy in the middle for the next 5 years based on how he performed this season.

Same goes for R. Wright. He's been decent, but shown me nothing to prove to me that he can be a staple and make this defense more successful.

Roth has been the epitome of inconsistent. He has not had a good year at all. He's taken 0 pressure of JT, and he's provided almost no pass rush all year. Believe it or not, the K. Carter/D. Bowens platoon over there was many times better than Roth. He showed much promise last year, but now that he has become an everydown player, he's been under par and it shows.

I'd love to sit here and say that these guys are good and that we can leave the Defensive Line alone early in the draft, but it's just not true. I hate the idea of having to use the 1st overall pick on a DT no matter how good he is, but we have to face reality. Those guys that we all thought were gonna be great and we all wanted to be great just aren't that great.

    Bottom line:

    Roth
    Moses
    Soliai
    R. Wright
    A. Wright (7th round pick who has not played a game)

These guys have done and shown absolutely nothing to convince Mueller or any GM to not go Defense Line early and often.

If the team is going BPA I think the pick has to be Dorsey. It's a difference of opinion who knows who is right? I don't believe a running back has any value at the top of a draft. Now if the Dolphins decide to go with a "skill" position player i'd rather them draft Brohm or Matt Ryan.
