I gave it a D, Davis was a solid pick but not liking Pat White at all and I dont think we need 2 CBs when we have so many other needs
That Pat White pick was probably the second worst in round 2 other than the S that Oakland took. Wow I was screaming Connor Barwin!
I like the 2 CB picks in Davis and Smith. We're gonna need it if we intend to compete with the Pats for the division and their spread offenses. That and both guys, especially Davis, are great at the Line of scrimmage and stopping the run. The Pat White pick bothered me a bit like most, but it definitely makes our offense more dynamic and dangerous. I hate giving draft grades before these guys even play a snap, but I'll bite: B
B Above Average / Drafting two DB's was very wise / safe. The only uncertainty I have right now is with the selection of White... B~K
exactly people dont realize how bad our CBs were last season. We had no Future there either. Now we should be set Surtain/Madison part 2
I'm not going to vote, If you had an In Complete I would have taken that. I'm not a big fan of Davis, but he is talented, loved the Smith pick. Pat White? The guy has talent, I'm willing to see what they have planned for him.
i gave it a B! I love the 2 CB picks! i've been asking for that all off season. i didn't think it would happen, but i'm glad it did. It will be nice to have a true passing threat for the wildcat, but i would have picked everette brown or paul kruger with that pick. But the front office must be confident with cameron wake and maybe we'll get JT back.
B. Vontae Davis was a great, great pick. I'm really surprised he was still there, and Sean Smith was great value there too. At one point in the middle of the second round Mayock mentioned him still being available and I couldn't believe it. Our secondary is looking mighty nice right now. In between those two picks we got which appears to be the next big whipping boy for the fans of the Miami Dolphins, Pat White. I didn't like the pick for the simple reason of it being a major reach. I don't dislike the player, because he can be electric, but I thought we could have and should have gone in a different direction. But I'm also not calling him a wasted pick like some other people. You know who benefits most from this pick? Ted Ginn, because fans now have a new player to constantly whine about.
"C", Stretegically....White is a FUBAR pick, Smith and Davis were nice catches, though relying on Davis to behave seems a stretch, otherwise it would be a "B". Pat White makes -0- sense...none...de nada...nein...
I voted a 'C'. The Davis pick, while an elite CB prospect, the character issues are there. White was a more of a luxury pick. As a WR, he in no way rates a second round pick. As a QB, he has promise, but we have a solid grouping at that position. So, what is he ?? A WR, a Wildcat specialist or a QB ?? And what really makes this pick a mystery, is that both Barwin and Sintim were on the board at the time we picked him....I just don't see it... Smith at 61 was a good selection....If the character issues of Davis are overcome, that could be a nice secondary in a year or two...
Cam Wake offers us the same kind of player, so the only thing I can think is they have alot of confidence in Wake and maybe plan on signing JT. Plus it's obvious the Wildcat is going to be a part of who we are, not a just a phase.
That is the only strategy that makes sense D-Mike, Wake must be more highly thought of then we knew, from what I've seen of Wake, nice nice pursuit, good motor, athletic pass rusher, any mismatches on him will put a Qb on his backside, not sure about quality NFL tackles though. JT is reduced to competing for a roster spot with a Day 2 pick, I'd take M Johnson hands down over JT...but JT will sell tickets..
It's hard for me to give it a grade. I like the two DB's, though I dont see either as sure things. I absolutely hate the White pick. Balancing that I came up with a C. I am looking forward to seeing Davis/Smith in the secondary, though.
I always have a very hard time rating drafts before a player has played a single minute in the league. Its just hard for me to say that any team had a really bad pick or draft because you truly dont know who could be the next big thing. That being said, i feel there could have been a FEW better choices made on our part but i think it was good overall. I'd give us a B.
I'm not really buying the Wake thing. I mean the Giants seem to just stockpile LB's. It's a position where you can have a lot of depth and just let things sort themselves out.
I love of our draft...Our two new corners are very very talented players, their upside is comparable to any other in the draft. Couple of cocky athletes.....alright baby, iam all about it. as long as you bleed the aqua, iam good The selection of pat whiite, shows me that our front office is committed to the hybrid offense, and backs it up, with the best hybrid player in the country. Great picks imo. Were on our way to unprescedented land..
Not to take any shot your post or your post or your opinion but i just hate when people put labels on players who have not played a down in the league yet. Its a set up for dissapointment. Don't get me wrong, you may very well be right and we may have struck gold with those two picks. Even if one of them is as good as either surtain or madison were for us we are in great shape. However, if they dont live up to those expectations everyone will be quite angry.
Vontae Davis is outstanding value at 25. You just hope he can keep his head on straight. If he does, we got a steal. Sean Smith, we'll see if he can do it. But he's big and he feels a need considering the division we play in. As for Pat White, I love the pick. He's a leader, a winner and a damn good football player. West Virginia was not the same without him on the field. He's a 4.5 guy with a big arm and plenty of athleticism. He's run for right at or well above 1000 yards all four years of college. He can run and catch passes. He's an athlete. I can't wait until we unleash him in the Wildcat and beyond. There are so many possibilities with him on the field, with our offensive coaching staff, and that excites me. And I don't feel he was a reach, as I'd seen mocks with him going in that area. IMO, I think plenty of people....myself included....had convinced themselves going in that this regime picks LOS guys early, pretty much without exception. And that's what they were going to do today. Hey, they might have. Guys might have gone ahead of where they picked. I think we have to remember that Cameron Wake got a contract that is essentially what a second round pick would get. So there's your front seven guy. With Jason Taylor in their back pocket, I think the Trifecta went out and took care of the backend, while staying ahead of the curve on offense.
Players can develop though Shoes, and Wakes physical gifts were never in question, 4.6 etc etc, and he has played up or down in College or the CFL. and IMO, we reisgn JT.
True, we are relying on Wake and JT though, alot more then anyone may have thought predraft. The regime also loves players who can do multiple jobs, White if he is willing could fill in all over the place...but what does that tell us about D Bess?
I dont doubt that Wake can turn into a fine player. I'm just saying Wake being good shouldnt block us from taking a DE/LB, because it's a position that lends itself to a full stable of bodies.
I can agree with that 100%..but apparently Ireland and Friends are relying on him and Merling and Langford and Starks...
To be honest, I don't know if they're necessarily relying on Wake. I think that, while they want to win now, the Trifecta knows it's probably going to take another year to really get the roster where they want it. I don't think White has any impact on Bess making the roster. I think they have different skill sets and will largely be used in different capacities anyway. Bess generally isn't on the field in the Wildcat, which is where I expect White to see lots of time. With Greg Camarillo coming off an ACL, Bess could be starting early. Even if White replaces him Bess on punts, I think Bess is safe.
There is no other real way to put it though Muck, we need pass rushers, we didn't draft any...yet...but waiting to rd 3 to begin to look for them is a bit late in the game, to me that means Wake and maybe JT are the new passrush. Bess moves to the outside and White takes the slot? That seems a stretch though, White hasn't run routes before at any serious level, he may just be Beck's replacement as hard as that is to believe.
I cant see White taking anyone's roster spot at WR this soon. I wonder how much he'll lineup at WR anyway. Will he be more of an option QB type who comes in for special packages, and occasionally lineup at WR? I just dont see him lining up at WR on a consistent basis next season.
Exactly, it may be hard for us fans to believe, but White could simply be the #3 Qb who occasionally comes in for the wildcat and Wake is our DE/OLB pass rushing acquistion and Akin A and Crowder really our the Starters at ILB this season. Reality is cruel.
It's a B. White makes sense for this team more than many others, and anybody who figured we were getting a WR who was sure to contribute next year was just fooling themselves. Year one WR contributors are pretty rare. Just like White, the other two picks were used on players who have the ability to be something special if scheme and coaching coincide with determination. Now it's in the hands of the coaching staff and the players themselves. This isn't the draft I'd run, but I knew that about BP when he was hired. You can see his influence all over this draft so far IMHO, and it is once again all too clear he's not about value drafting. Smith and White were arguably going to be there with our next pick, but why play around and miss them? I'd risk it if I were running things, but BP does not.
