    List some underrated albums in music (any genre) that are some of your favorites.

    I'll start with some albums that are a few of my personal favorites

    Blind Melon- Blind Melon. This is a fantastic album loaded with excellent tracks. One of the most underrated bands from the 90s.

    The Verve- A Storm in Heaven. The band's debut album is nothing like Bittersweet Symphony. Psychadelic Tracks and and an excellent guitarist make this a must-hear album IMO

    The Verve- A Northern Soul. Another great album, straying just a tad away from the psychadelic tunes of A Storm in Heaven.

    just to name a few......

    During the 'Let it Bleed' sessions, Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman cut some tracks with Ry Cooder and Nicky Hopkins and released it as 'Jamming with Edward!' in 1972. One of the best albums I'd never heard of until 5 years ago.

    Van Halen - Fair Warning. Yeah, people like it now, but it's the least selling album and the darkest of the earlier DLR era.

    Stone Temple Pilots - Tiny Music...Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop They didn't get to tour much for this album so it didn't it a lot of promotion.

    Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny.

    Second album from a band that became huyoooooge with Screaming For Vengeance, but already had a solid following prior to that. Sad Wings is an interesting eclectic collection of songs, including my all time favorite Victim of Changes.

    My personal favorite Priest album, Painkiller gets overlooked a lot by people, too. The only albums by Priest that anybody talks about are Screaming For Vengeance and British Steel...

    Hah, Painkiller was pretty damn good, especially after the whole Turbo Lover experiment, and it's even stranger Ram It Down followup. Sorry, keyboards may work for some metal bands but for Priest they felt so out of place, and Ram It Down just never sat well with me..

    I......I.....I......agree with you. :wink2:

    For me, it has to be "You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish" by REO Speedwagon and "Pieces of Eight" by Styx.

    Both bands were RAGGED on for becoming arena rock staples, but on these early albums they both rocked pretty hard.

    It's my 2nd favorite Priest record right after Defenders of the Faith. If "The Sentinal" is not on Defenders then Sad Wings is EASILY their best record in my opinion.

    Both bands had some great talent yet rarely get the respect they deserve for some very good music that I still enjoy so many years later.

    Agree with Jaydog about Fair Warning. Unchained is one of my favorite songs ever. Mean Streets is really good and the rest is pretty solid.

    Rock and Roll Over by KISS featuring I Want You, Take Me, Calling Dr. Love, and Makin Love. I would kill to hear Take Me and Makin Love live.

    nirvanna's "bleach" and alice in chain's "sap". i'm still running into people who think "nevermind" was nirv's first album.

    also fudgetunnel's "hate songs in d minor" is a very underrated album.

    Love that album. Can't say it was underrated though, when it broke records for sales. :wink2:

    I'll add a few...

    * ELP ~ Tarkus
    * ANYTHING by Scatterbrain
    * TT Quick ~ Metal of Honor
    * ELF ~ Self-Titled (Dio's first real band)
    * Fastway ~ Self-Titled

    True at the time it wasn't underrated, but it has been pretty much forgotten now.

    Fastway was a great album, I have it in my basement, may have to dig it out.

    Black Rose: A Rock Legend by Thin Lizzy

    Sure it reached #2 on the UK charts, but only 81 on the US charts. Compared to the album 'Jailbreak' which got to #18 in the US. Black Rose completely blows away Jailbreak in my opinion, so I consider it underrated.

    I AGREE. Great album. That and Thunder and Lightning are their two best IMO. All the Thin Lizzy albums are underrated IMO. Same with UFO and MSG. Mother Love Bone's album is underrated. Corrosion of Conformity's "Deliverance" was underrated. Too many to name here but thats a start

    Bruce Spingsteen - Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ.

    Was his debut album, and is pretty much unknown unless you're a big Springsteen fan. Some fantastic songs on it.

    Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill

    Steely Dan overall is a pretty underrated band. They catch a lot of **** from people but they're talented as hell.

    Neil Young - After The Gold Rush

    Great album from another guy that I don't think gets enough respect for what he did.

    Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile

    Panned somewhat by fans and critics alike, the follow-up to the masterpiece known as the Downward Spiral failed to live up to expectations when it was released.

    For me it remains arguably my favorite Nails record of all time, though Year Zero from a couple years ago is up there as well. The Fragile was a groundbreaking record that was ahead of it's time.

    did i mention king crimson? (yeah I know i did they're worth mentioning twice) jesus man look into them.

    albums to start off with:

    - in the court of the crimson king
    -discipline
    -larks' tongue in aspic
    -thrak
    -power to believe

    that spans their whole career. from '69 when they opened for the stones to a couple of years ago when they were touring with tool. other notable albums for me include:

    -three of a perfect pair
    -construkction of light
    - in the wake of poseidon

    pagan, you wanna add anything here? please?
