So having a bit of a problem when we first got this router I installed it perfectly fine on the older comp that runs XP. So recently I tried to install on the newer Vista computer but did not work. when I tried setting it up it did not recognize it on the install. So anyone have a clue on what the problem could be?
From what I am gathering you are trying to connect to a router with your new computer which is running Vista. You will have to give me some more info before I can help you. -Does the new computer have a wireless adapter? If it is a laptop, I will go ahead and say yes. -Is the computer even detecting the wireless signal from your router. Can you see the SSID(name of the router you are connecting too with the other computer) -Have you tried manually adding the network profile in the Network and Sharing Center? -Is your wireless network secure? If so, is it WEP or WPA? -Do you have a wireless adapter switch located somewhere on the machine and if so, is it enabled or disabled? -Have you downloaded and installed the latest Windows Updates? I have had situations where downloading the newest updates would snag an updated driver for the wireless adapter and it would start working.
It has a built in wireless card but thats not the issue it detected it fine but it wont install the software so it can be directly connected. Actually it wont pick up my netgear router that I used to bridge the laptop to the internet. The XP comp used both with no problems.
you actually dont need to install the software... what do you mean by directly connected? if you can connect to it wirelessly you can access all of the configurations though a web-based menu by going to http://(ip address of router) ... installing the software isn't mandatory for the most part
-192.168.1.1 should be the ip address of the router -if not try 192.168.0.1 -username: admin password: password
By directly connected I mean wired. The problem is when I hook up the linkys router the computer doesn't even recognize it to the point it will show up no internet connection now I figured installing the software to it would fix that but it doesn't even install.
Is the network interface card showing up in your Network Connections? If it is, is it enabled? Also, do an ipconfig in your command prompt and see what you are getting for an ip address and default gateway.
yeah, i'm guessing your NIC is disabled... when you either plug or unplug the cable, do you get a display in your task bar at the bottom right saying, "a network cable is unplugged"? if you are getting no notifications when you plug or unplug your cable id think its disabled...
How would it show up? Right now my Linkys router is disconnected. Also I do not get that notification. Thats strange.
I have one of those and it works fine. I have a Vista machine as the main one with the software installed. Couple of notes: 1) First time connections need to be wired before you go wireless with it. 2) Do you have MAC filtering on? The MAC of your wireless card and of the ethernet port are going to be different. You may consider noting down your router configs and resetting the router to its factory default settings and then load the software on your Vista machine and reconfigure the router from there.
