I would not choose to debate the perceptual issues and their effect on future viewpoints from the CFB fanbase....you are correct and I agree with you. It is what it is...the media will hang UM every chance and UF will get no attention for their problems....I agree, and it is what it is.....my point in the earlier post is this:

Regardless of perceptual value there is a problem at UF.....If no one reported on the financial meltdown would there still be a problem...yes...lack of acknowledgment of a problem does not make it less of a problem we should have all learned that by now.........

Hiding an issue does not help anyone....Miami got to be Thug U because they earned it as you stated...they let things get out of control until the problem was too big to ignore....OU did the same thing, SMU...ditto....UF is earning the things that are being said about them and going to grow.

I guess earlier I was making the perceptual point but wht I was at least trying to say also is ...there is an issue here and no matter what school it is at, I am sick of athletes that endanger us the public and get away with it because they play football....I am a lot better off than many people right now and I do not consider myself better than anyone...we just have different lots in life and have different responsibilites....I am SICK of ALL athletes regardless of the color of their jersey costing ME money and endangering ME and thinking they can do it because they are better than the general public........

I agree Rafy.....but consider this when accessing whether their is a problem....

about .75% of our US population is in jail...considering acquittals, dismissals and plea bargins...maybe 3% of our population is charged with a crime.......UF has 12 scolly players from their opening 08 roster that have been charged with a crime in their past or since...that is 15% of their population (the allowable scolly limit is 80), and that does not include dismissals like the Cunningham dismissal...I offer the stats only because it eliminates much of the bias to look at numbers and I know the sets standards are different so statistically it is scientifically invalid...yadda, yadda.......15% is a problem any way you cut it......by their not being an issue perceptually, the media and G-fans are complicitly contributing to the problem...and again I agree their is no problem from a national perception point of view.

Nobody wants to feel endangered and I personally have a problem with people who act like they are better than others for any reason (fame, money, education, race, etc.). But I'm not ready to claim that UF is a program out of control. There are too many arrests and I don't know how the team is handling those issues. However, I'm not ready to say they aren't handling them. I've seen enough crappy arrests to not jump to conclusions as to who was actually in the wrong. There have been too many to assume that all of these guys were being angels. That's why I say there have been too many arrests but I'm also not ready to assume they are all bad guys. I didn't see many repeat violators on your list so maybe discipline was handed down internally and the individuals shaped up. I'm sure some guys will need more than one lesson but the question to my mind is whether efforts are being made at discipline. That to me is the hallmark of whether a program is out of control. Bad acts and no consequences. If there are consequences and the consequences are severe enough I'm not going to jump to the "out of control" tag.

I'm not claiming there isn't a problem. But for a program to be "out of control" the team has to be ignoring it. I don't think that's the case. I'm far removed from Gainesville nowadays but I believe that at least a few of those players you listed were kicked off the team for those acts. There really isn't a harsher penalty the team can impose.

It can be claimed that maybe the player shouldn't have been brought in originally but without knowing if all those guys had criminal histories prior to coming to UF that really can't be substantiated or refuted. I believe that academically UF still has higher standards than both UM and FSU. And kids with long criminal histories while in HS don't tend to be high academic performers.

So while I'll agree that there is a problem that too many kids are getting in trouble I don't think there's enough evidence to say that UF is ignoring standards in their recruiting or not disciplining those that get in trouble.

Something smells about this story. Just seems real fishy... Date rape 3 times? Really? The first two were not enough evidence to not go out with him again? Saying he was stalking you, but neither made eye contact on the bus? What gives? Not saying CJ is totally innocent here, but ... Something just seems off. Like we are not getting the full story here.

Florida defensive tackle Torrey Davis, who made two goal-line tackles in the national championship against Oklahoma, has left the team.

School spokesman Steve McClain confirmed Davis' departure Saturday, but would not divulge the reason for his decision.

Davis, a sophomore from Seffner, had academic trouble and at least two off-the-field problems during his time in Gainesville. He was cited for alcohol possession and driving with knowledge of a suspended license.

He had a big part in keeping OU from scoring in that Championship game. Link below

I hear there are a few kids that are a gnats pubic hair length from being kicked off also.....I am no Meyer fan ....as we all know...but kudos to him for finally giving in to the pressure from Bull Gators and cracking down....and a big Props to those Bull Gators that are putting the pressure on...............the school as a whole will be better because of it.......IMHO

Oboy...I hear from inside the building that TJ Pridemore has been an absolute beast and is so athletic they do not know where to put him...FB/TE/LB ..... apparently he has taken to FB like a duck to water....everyone on the inside is gushing about him..he got a slight injury at the end of practices but nothing that will be long term.......not to pat myself on the back...but I called this kid when he was at Buford HS...kid is just all football player......be aware that the FB may get more touches next year and apparently he showed fantastic hands and "blocked like a left tackle".

Good to hear! So I guess Meyer is going to start using a FB again? With the lack of depth at TE, kind of surprising not to put him there. Then again, with this offense, I am guessing he will just be moved all over the place.

    Thanks for info Ray!

From what I heard he got time at TE also. They made the move because he showed more than they expected from a hands and blocking perspective....IMHO only I think he ends up at TE...you have Hernandez as a junior that may come out...I think...and a RS freshman in Pridemore....that is a pretty good situation if all i am hearing is accurate.

Calathes to test NBA, won't hire agent

Was afraid of this. Hopefully he decides to stay. With some of the new guys next year, he would put this team as a contender, IMO.

As long as we have enough depth to get Werner to the bench we should be better. ;) However, with Nick distributing the ball I think we have a chance to do some damage in the tournament.

Here's a little nugget I ran across from the AJT outta Atlanta.

Florida gave opposing DCs something to think about: Just imagine that you’re a defensive coordinator who will face the Florida Gators this fall. Florida has the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner (Tim Tebow) returning for his senior season and will be going for his third national championship in four years. Just when your defense gets into some kind of rhythm against Tebow, in comes sophomore quarterback John Brantley, who has a cannon for a right arm.

It’s a little scary. Florida used its spring game to showcase Brantley and what opponents can look forward to after Tebow. He had completions of 26, 47, and 50 yards. The two longest ones went to Frankie Hammond, Jr. (Remember that name).

In short, Tebow spreads the defense horizontally and finds seams for all of those speedy backs and receivers. Brantley will then spread the defensive vertically and kill you throwing intermediate passes. Playing Florida in 2009 will mean a long week of preparation.

Over the spring Brantley has showcased his arm every day. Heard people even say he is outplaying Tebow some days. I really think we will see Tebow and Brantley in the game together. I forsee Tebow catching a pass this year

Frankie Hammond is the guy to watch this year. I hear good things about him every day and when we started to recruit him he was a 3 star guy. Diamond in the rough indeed

Calathes was a local player here. I think he won back to back POY awards and I saw him shooting hoops with his trainer here at Rollins College when I went to shoot hoops with friends couple weekends ago. I think he'll be a first rounder for sure.

Jelani Jenkins is an absolute monster. Sucks for PSU that they lost him to UF. GREAT pickup for you guys.
