I wanted to see what the family thought about this. The Cards, Cubbies, Dodgers, are just a few teams that I can think of. I wish we could keep him that is for sure. Some team will be getting a real good pitcher, that hasn't had a lot of run support especially this year. Jake is a good people, and very down to earth as I met him with my in laws a couple of years ago at Spring Training.

I'd have to guess the Cubs are the most likely team to get him. It seems like somewhere where he'd like to go and since he pretty much have the say in the matter. Only problem is the extra payroll the Cubs would have to take on would make it tough especially with them not having an owner yet.

I think the Padres should also look to trade Adrian Gonzalez too, which they could probably get a huge package for him. They'd get more for him than for Peavy. And the teams that could be after him would be much bigger.

I hear with Adrian as far as trade value, but he is a very popular local boy, and I don't think they do that. A couple of rows behind me on Thursday nights game was Adrian's dad, and godfather at the game. He is the only hitter left on the team, besides Scott Hariston.

Well right now it looks like SD won't be good for awhile, especially if they trade Peavy. Their farm system is a mess but their top prospect is Kyle Blanks who's a 1B with big time power. If they can trade AGon for a couple of good top prospects they should. Especially since they want to cut payroll and he won't be cheap for too long. I mean for example if SD could trade AGon for a package like Lars Anderson, Clay Buchholz and Daniel Bard they should jump on it as they're getting a possible ace, closer and stud hitter.

I think Jeff Moorad will spend money in the future, however as he did in Arizona, the drafting of better players and there development will be the key to this franchises success. This is where you will probably see changes in personnel. Not that Adrian is in the same catagory as Tony Gywnn Sr. here, but you can kinda get the sense here that they would like that to happen. Good post bro.:wink2:

I really really really really really really wish the Padres could loosen up the demands and send him to the rival Dodgers. Fat chance but one can hope. :wink2:

Not a lot of teams that fit Peavy's demands (West Coast, NL, willingness to spend cap space) in dire need of pitching. Dodgers seem to be the best fit for his demands unfortunately for SD. Have some good young prospects pitching and OF as well. Angels may bid though they have Santana and Lackey returning with Weaver. D-Backs probably won't pony up and neither could the Giants. Cubs and Cards are also possibilities but whether Peavy will want to move is a questionmark.

See I never understood why teams wouldn't trade within the same division (unless of course its big rivals like Red Sox/Yankees, Dodgers/Giants, Cubs/Cards, Mets/Braves/Phillies), especially if you can get the best deal for your team. I mean the Padres aren't going to be good for a couple of years so who cares if you trade him to the Dodgers and when he pitches against you he beats you. The job of a GM is to get the best deal possible so if the Dodgers are offering the best deal out there why not take those players instead of trading .60 cents on the dollar to a team like the Cubs?

Adrian is probably one of the most underrated players in the game, he's just so good hitting and fielding, yet people don't know because he's on the West Coast and doesn't play for the Dodgers or Giants. It would be great if SD can keep him and build the franchise around him. Hopefully new ownership can turn the franchise around.

There's a very bad stigma to it and GM's are probably fearful of being blamed by vicious fans for trading a guy to a rival team that's beating his own with the player he just traded. I would think the Padres and the Dodgers have a healthy rivalry themselves, albeit not as strong as against the Giants. Most teams in any sport will pretty much avoid trading in-division unless they get a big steal that will likely overcome shooting oneself in the foot.

I'm sure people have noticed him a lot more this year considering he is among the league leaders in homers (a very tough thing to do as a Padre these days :wink2:). I sure was glad his stock dropped a bit in fantasy baseball because he's one of my draft day steals.

To me, the team that makes sense for Peavy to go to is the Mets, they need pitching and don't mind a high payroll.

And that would keep him away from the Dodgers, no need to face him in our own division a couple of times a year, let alone vaulting the Dodgers into perenial contenders for quite some time.

True. Though the Mets are on the East Coast and Peavy seems to really want to stay in the West.

I can tell you which team it WON'T be.
Can you imagine the rotation of Webb, Harren and Peavey?

The FO wouldn't pony up the measley bucks to keep O-Hud or the legiondary Big Unit in Phoenix, no way they spend any money for Peavy

BTW: Is there any room on the Padres bandwagon for one more?
Whoever is beating the Dodgers is my new favorite team.

Also, did somebody really call Dodgers/Giants out as a SERIOUS rivalry? Guess I missed something :pity:

I would love to see Peavy come to the Mets but judging by his comments about wanting to stay in the NL midwest I see a team like St Louis or Cincy coming out of the blue for him. I dont think he wants a huge media market like NYC or Chicago. I think he might be more open to a mid size market like that. If he changes his mind about NY though a rotation of Johan, Peavy, Pelfrey, Maine would be sweet.

Yup I did. Maybe it's just me living on the East Coast and all but not seeing a lot of those teams games but I thought it was a pretty big rivalry dating back to the days when they were in NY. Am I wrong?

I don't see the Dodgers making a move for Peavy. I don't think that McCourt (who has made the parking lot at Chavez Revine a miserable experience) wants to pay for Peavy's contract.

At the end of the day it is 50/50 if Peavy gets traded. And the team that might make the trade is the Cardinals.

Chavez Ravine's always been ****ty when it comes to parking and traffic. No real blame on McCourt other than generating a little more fan interest and seats.

It's not like the Arizona Douchebacks have done anything of note this year. Whoever beats them is my new favorite team. :tongue2:

They went down this road during the offseason to see if he was interested in coming to the mets and he flat out said he has no interest to play in New York at all. So we can forget about that. Saying this, I would rather trade for adrian gonzalez given our 1b situation...

I like Adrian Gonzalez, but there is no way the Padres should be able to get more for him than they could Jake Peavy. True #1 ace pitchers are far more valuable than an above average first baseman or any other hitting position. There aren't many true #1 starters in baseball right now, and Jake is one of the few. There are several above average hitters though.

But Peavy has a big contract and a no trade clause in it. Only a handful of teams could afford him as it is but then he also has a say in where he goes, it almost handcuffs the Padres, who are desperate to get rid of the contract. There are a lot of questions about not only his health but also if Petco makes him better than he is. Also some of the past rumored deals for Peavy involving the Braves, Cubs and White Sox, the returns SD was going to get back were pretty weak.

With Gonzalez, he's semi young, he's cheap, under control for a while. Realistically any team could afford him and could make a trade for him. He's fair game for any team. That's why I think if SD would trade AGon, they'd get more back for him.

These are just off the top of my head. Jake I believe is under paid for a pitcher right now at 12 million, and Adrian I believe is at 6 million or so a year. At Thursday's night game the organization was trying to get the fans to vote for Adrian for the All Star game. They were giving shirts away, and tickets or ticket upgrades I believe depending on how many ballots you filled out.

Here's a great site for baseball contracts:
    http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/san-diego-padres.html

    Anyway Peavy will get $10m in 2010, $16m in 2011, $17m in 2012, and a club option for $22m (with a $4m buyout) in 2013.

AGon is making $3m this year, in 2010 $4.75m, and a club option in 2011 for $5.5m. Now that is a great contract that they can move and get a big return for.

In my opinion, the contract Jake Peavy has is very attractive. I think he's one of the top three starters in major league baseball along with Roy Halladay and Brandon Webb. The fact that he is locked up through 2012 with an option for 2013 is very attractive.

Where's Johan Santana, Lincecum or even CC Sabathia? Peavy isn't a top 3 starter in the game, top 10 sure but top 3 is pushing it. Anyway that's not a good contract in this current economy. But I'm telling you check out his home/road splits. A lot of teams do worry that his ERA is a full run more on the road and his HR rate on the road is much higher than it is at home in an extreme pitcher's park. Also his pitching motion scares scouts to death, he's a tiny guy and uses max effort in it.
