A surprisingly good article about J Taylor's prospects as a pass rusher after turning 35: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...lor-s05310sbmay31-copy,0,7640423.story?page=1 Armstrong taught JT back in 2000, as JT has gotten more experience, and most importantly, kept his knees healthy, JT's skill level has improved and he has become more dangerous a player.
098? To me the key is he is completely healthy, and there are more guys who can pass rush on this year's squad then the 07 squad, we had JP back then, but he was slow coming back from a knee clean up. I'm beginning to think our defense will be our strongest unit this season, we've added talent to the unit, Davis, Smith, Greene, JT, Wake, McDaniels, Wilson. JT, and Wilson are proven NFL players, McDaniels has proven that when healthy, he is a load, he was good enough that the Jags could let Stroud go. And Matty Roth should be a better OLB this season due to more experience at the position.
Is he appearing in a spin off of the smash hit Rocky Balboa? Sly will be cryogenically frozen and then come back from the dead to fight him. That's my take on it.
Like a cool breeze caressing the frozen artic tundra...that's just cold Conu.. What are your reasons for saying that Conu? Do you think JT will not be much of a factor this season?
First of all Jason Taylor is a physical marvel, with excellent genes, for a man his size, for the weight to distribute evenly, hes way ahead of the curve, basically his body is younger relative to his peers at the same age. Just by watching the ota highlight, he looks to be in great shape, the maturation of his body has taken place, his musculature has matured nicely, he looks full, dense, and boy did he look smooth, strong and explosive..you could see it just from the clips, quite amazing. 2nd, Jason is a player with a very high Football IQ, go ahead, try to run a screen pass his way, sheeeeee#, that man will blow that sh@# up in a heart beat. for a man his size playing the defensive end position, he was excellent against the run, now playing the outside linebacker position, his size is a huge advantage, his ability to shed blocks, diagnose, head up, and finish, will be on full display. 3rd..Everything Jason Taylor is, AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, is everything you look for in an hybrid linebacker. 4th, I have no idea how matt roth is gonna beat him out for the starting position....I know people will say, "he plays the run so well", i understand that. IMO, he will only start because our coaches want to keep JT fresh for the playoff drive, cause any play JT is not on the field for, our defense is at a disadvantage. i must go back to what i saw on the ota highlights, the age and the physical is all anyone can question at this point....no, i dont think so, hes got three years, at a high level, with that body and mind.
just for that, iam not gonna give you rep power to reach that cool 800 club. lol. ive come to the conclusion that he was wearing a new athletic mrs. doubtfire training for speed suit..lol
Looking at Skolnick's over 35 chart, if JT has a good season, he could pass Rickey Jackson, Leslie O'Neal and...LT... I believe JT has 119 sacks, if he manages 14 or 15 this year, he moves into the rare air club, I watched plenty of Jackson and Taylor and it will be a pleasure to see JT pass up those two players while in a Dolphin Uniform. The only guy that was listed who didn't really accomplish much after 35 was Richard Dent, iirc he came to the 49ers as a sort of mercenary pick up in the late 90's? Even better though, Reggie White won DPOY...at age 37.. But Reggie was a Freak of Nature.
We'll see, JT strikes me as the type of guy who has to like a guy before he tries to mentor/teach/critique them for their benefit. It would be great if they do, both JP and JT, simply show him how to break down film looking for weaknesses.
I think about 14 people will probably give it to Marty now, was this a ploy? Did Marty pay you to say that? JT came back for all the right reasons, he is motivated, he is participating fully in ALL the OTA's and ALL the strength & conditioning, we will have Porter, Wake and Roth to put opposite him or keep him fresh. I think JT and our entire OLB core could be monsters this season, should be really fun to watch!
Someone is going to end up playing DE though, three pass rushing OLB's, unless JT or JP move to the ILB on passing downs, there is no other way to get them out on the field.
if only we could get roth to move inside in certain situations. Iam not enamored with crowder in passing situations, to stiff a player to cover anyone in the flat, or downfield in the seam, and cant rush the passer with any consistency {not a good combination}. maybe wake's skills can translate to that job, he sure has the athletisism to do it. we'll see about his instincts...ahh forget it, iam just dreamin that we could get Taylor, Porter, Roth and wake on the field together. That size and strength i am enamored with.
