Wow. I'm very sorry to hear this Mary. I don't really know what to say to be honest with you other than I wish you the best and hope you get on your feet as soon as possible. My eyes got a bit watery reading this post and I just don't really know what to say other than I wish you the best.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. As you can probably imagine, we're pretty terrified. We've never had to go to a shelter before. Meghan leaves Thursday morning for California. Unfortunately, mother in law has no room for us - they're way backed up in that house, and we have no family here that we can stay with. I don't know why I thought people with good hearts get rewarded. When Chris came home from work last night, he said it looked like I had been in a boxing fight, my eyes were so swollen from crying. Much, much worse from getting Megs ready to leave on Thursday, but I'm confident I made the right decision regarding the girls.

This is very discouraging. If you would feel comfortable with it, maybe some of your fellow Phin-fans can put you all up? I was thinking that if possible, I would be willing to do it (first checking with my roommates), but of course Israel is a long way off.

That did get me thinking. With your daughters now out of state and in good hands, have you all thought of working on ships? That way you don't have to worry about room and board. You may have to work as a chambermaid and Chris as a waiter, but for the time being it's a possible solution.

Well, folks, it seems someone has intervened to provide us yet another "stay of execution." Our attorney has been working on our behalf behind the scenes and has discovered that no official "Deed of Foreclosure" has been filed in the public records section at the Newark Hall of Records, therefore, we have a short more amount of time. He didn't say how long - he just "long enough" while he investigates further. He has been in contact with the sheriff and the sheriff has agreed to let him do some more digging. When I go, I will miss you all. Michael - I never thought of working on ships, honestly. I wouldn't even know how to go about getting a job such as that. Any suggestions? I'm not averse to anything as far as gainful employment is concerned. Megs left this morning and will be staying with Chris' brother and his wife until Grandma gets back to California.

Grandma had to leave suddenly yesterday for Atlanta because her father (he's like my adopted great grandfather) had a massive stroke night before last. He's unresponsive since. Please say a prayer for him as well, though it doesn't look good.

Mary, you know how much this hurts us as well. We love you, and wish that somehow this will end for you soon.

Has there been no chance to find an apartment - even a small one ? Is it your credit history or foreclosure that prevents you from finding one ? Even if it is a bad neighborhood, an apartment would be preferable to a shelter.

Hang in there Mary, there will be a miracle for you. It may be in a blessing you don't even see right now, but God will make a way for you. He always does.

As for the kids, you did the right thing. They are taken care of and that is your # 1 priority.

    Bless you Mary

Hey Mary, the stay is a good thing, no matter how long it is. My former Brother in Law took a job on cruise ship back in the day and made decent money, he contacted the various cruise lines and sent resumes to the HR departments. (Brilliant idea BTW Miamian).

Thank you Kevin. We appreciate that.

We've been looking as much as can, but, as soon as you have a foreclosure, it goes on your credit report - and EVERYONE wants a credit report to fill an apartment.

Thank you for confirming that I made the right decision as far as they go. Believe me, had I been selfish, they would be with us. I just can't subject them to that, as a loving mother.

Thank you very much for the info Michael. I'll look into it. Sadly, Grandpa Ralph passed yesterday with his family at his bedside. The stroke was just too massive for him to overcome. At least he was comfortable. He had to be sedated since his entry to the hospital because every time he came to, he tried to fight the nurses about the breathing tubes, etc. He's in a better place now. Megs' is taking it particularly hard - they were very close. I talked to her last night on the phone and she was just short of hysterical. But my brother in law is awesome and he'll take care of her.

Thank you Pastor. I just emailed my mom in law the Safely Home prayer from my dad's prayer card, as I did to Deb when she lost her friend. It gave me great comfort when he died, as I hope it will to her. On a side note: please say an extra prayer for us. We found a lovely apartment perfect for the family. Just trying to figure out a way to raise the $2,300 necessary to get us in, and this is the only manager who has not asked for a credit report - liked us since he met us to show it so says he wants us to have it. Thank you.

It's over. Our attorney cannot find any loopholes and even though the foreclosure deed hasn't been filed with the Newark Hall of Records, this leads the way for the sheriff to evict us next week, because we were served. The apartment fell through because the manager wanted all the money up front and, of course, we don't have it. I have to thank you all again for your support of us and for your prayers.

My dear, dear friends and family here. Thank you very much for all your thoughts, prayers, good intentions in trying to help us figure out what we were going to do. Some of you I have PM's from that I haven't gotten to because I have been frantically search for an apartment. Please don't think because I haven't responded it's because I don't appreciate it and care.

I was brought to tears yesterday by a very overwhelmed Sheriff who was instructed to come evict us and surprise, surprise, take our furniture to storage and pay to store for as long as we needed (which I had no idea they did). I say overwhelmed because he was almost crying at our situation when I explained it to him. And I say instructed because once he heard about what we had been through, he refused to lock us out of our home. He invited us to stay as long as we need and he would "forget" that he was supposed to throw us out. I thank God every day for the sheer force of the generous humanity I encounter through exposure to other people and never, never expected a "big, bad sheriff with a gun" to virtually crumble at our misfortune.

The load off my mind is absolutely incredible and we owe it all to this very kind man who could not conceive of preying on our innocence and the path our long road has taken. Chris, who is 6'2" and 285 lbs was brought to his knees when he got home from work and I told him. Better news is that I can bring my girls home if I choose to. We'll have to discuss that.

Thank you all again, so, so much.

    Mary, Chris and the girls

Thanks for the idea Michael. We looked into it and spoke with 2 cruise lines. Years ago (before he met me) he was going to go into the Army and was refused admittance because he is truly flat-footed. Turns out it's the same for the cruise lines, but, he now has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a slew of other health problems (including severe sleep apnea) so they would not even consider hiring him. "Too much of a risk" is what they said. It's sad because he's so young - only 40 - but he's on all kinds of medication.

I hope 3 things for you. May you get through this and find the place you need. May all the kindness you experienced throughout this ordeal, keep you strong. And finally, when this is all said and done, may you have the opportunity to punch "life" back, dead in its jaw.

Thank you so much. Believe me - I plan to punch "life" back. There are many people I blame for this in government and we can all blame, but I won't take this thread off topic to do so. It would be a waste. Also, I forgot to mention, we get to keep our 3rd daughter Bean. This 10 pound chihuahua has been an incredible comfort and companion to me during this whole ordeal and asks for nothing but love in return and two meals per day  I absolutely could not imagine having to give her away. For anyone who may have an opportunity to own an animal, I would encourage it 5,000 percent. She is, as we speak, out in the back yard sunbathing (it's beautiful in Jersey today and, IMO, that's very apropo for the news I was given yesterday). Have a good day all.
