I'm curious to see the results for this one. Because the Jets are CLEARLY head & shoulders above every team in the division in this department.

I would say we EASILY have the best LG-C-RG in the division (anyone disagreeing there, I can't help them, thats a personal mental problem), but when it comes to tackles, Miami has us beat, slightly.

Still, 3 overcomes 2 in my book. We have the slight edge for sure.

I would tend to agree with you, especially with his versatility, but don't say that around here. Vernon Carey is treated like some sort of god.

How? Did Woody go to a pro bowl at RT I don't know about?

And this versatility you speak of regarding Woody - he was moved from C because he couldn't even successfully accomplish a shot gun snap. He can play G or RT, but his play is not clearly better than Carey.

Carey can play either right or left (and some will argue G, but he has never done it in the pros so I won't include it) tackle.

Versatility is not the reason that one is better than the other. If anything one could argue that the switch between RT and LT is more valuable than a player that can play RT or G, if you go by pay scales.

I've said this before 124, your offensive line will get the chance to prove if they are this year. The LOS will be stacked every game for a majority of the downs. They benefited from the presence of Lord Favre last year. That was apparent. Did he hurt the group in terms of sacks? Sure, but he also made defense wary of stacking the LOS.

Just to illustrate part of my point about Favre..................

In 2007, Jones averaged 3.6 ypc, and Washington 5.0

In 2008, Jones averaged 4.5 ypc, and Washington 5.9

Favre had a part in that, as did Woody........but did Woody cause defenses to take a defender out of the box?

This was easy. The Jets have the best line even though the Long and Carey > Ferguson and Woody. The other three spots aren't really that close.

Actually voted Pats, because while I think in the future either Miami or NY will have the better OL, at present, the Pats protected Brady and his replacement last year very well, and usually get some decent running yards even though they don't have a decent RB.

In a year or maybe even this coming season, it should be us or NY, and until after this season, we won't really know. as much as the homer in me wants to say Miami, our OL is still somewhat suspect until we A. get some good rushing game going in the standard offensive sets, B. settle who plays RG and they prove themselves, and C. Grove shows us we made the right move at C.

In 2010 season, if we keep drafting and developing the OL as well as we have the last couple years, it will be Miami. Not-so-sexy-Rexy will destroy the Jests OL because he is a great DC but is going to really suck at being a HC, just like his big mouth Daddy.

I went with Miami based more on speculation as to how the center and right guard positions play out this season.

Tackles Miami has without a doubt.

As much as I like Smiley, Faneca has him.

I think we will seriously close the gap between center and right guard giving Miami the overall edge.

If the Jets fans disagree, which I expect they will, they can send in a self addressed stamped envelope with their option to

    Good luck

*Last season the Jets no doubt, interior players were studs. This year I expect something different. That's all*

The following is my opinion. I have no stats to back any of this up with. We're talking about linemen, so its all subjective anyway.

Jake Long is light years ahead of D'Bustashaw Ferguson. EDGE MIAMI
Justin Smiley is not as good as Faneca. EDGE jets
Grove is not as good as Mangold. But Mangold is overrated. He's solid, but not great. Everyone is distracted by his golden locks. EDGE jets
Donald Thomas is a mystery and Brandon Moore is filling space PUSH
Vern Carey is better than Damien Woody EDGE MIAMI

So its 2-2-1. Tie goes to Miami, cause LT is the most important position on the o-line and our Jake Long is a top 5 LT in the league. D'Bustashaw may have been the #4 overall pick, but he plays like a 4th rounder.

    jetssuck!

The jets interior, our tackles. We may have closed the gap there, but it needs to be seen for a season before we can make a case about it.

Those guys would disagree and so would I. Mangold is a solid player, but he's far from being indisputably a top-3 center, nor is he vying for the best in the NFL.

With his helmet on he looks just like his sister.

    :D

No doubt he's good, but I think the two guards beside, especially faneca him make him a lot better than he is.

Oh, and not that this is a definitive stat, but

Player POA att. Yds Avg POA pct.

    Alan Faneca, LG 156 844 5.4 87.8
    Nick Mangold, C 141 857 6.1 94.3
    Brandon Moore, RG 157 915 5.8 85.4

    Justin Smiley, LG 86 433 5.0 87.2
    Jake Grove 90.6
    Ikechuku Ndukwe, RG 126 638 5.1 85.7

I can't find the full stats for Grove, but safe to say he was the best of a bad line with Oakland last year so I expect that number to climb. Considering he played the AFC east last season and went up against some of the best NT's in the game just like mangold did last year.

Wow...that's strange. D'Brick is one of the 20 best LT's in the league, easily. He isn't one of the best, but he IS somewhere in the teens. Woody is good too, but being a right tackle I'm sure dropped his stock on that list.

He was not great his rookie year. Any time a rookie starts all 16 games and does not suck, it is notable. Mangold started all 16 games as a rookie and did a good job. He was not great and is still not "great".

Jake Long is a "great" LT. Mangold is a really good C. I disagree with the Sporting News rankings.

Odd how much difference a year makes. Before this season i would have voted miami as the worst Oline in the AFC East and now i vote them as the best.

That being said, i only think theyre the best by a very small margin because the jets have a very talented oline as well. I think miami is better at tackle and seeing as how i play tackle myself and think its more significant than guard i picked miami:tongue2:

Mangold has been in the NFL for 3 years, not 4. Yes, they have the same amount of Pro Bowls, but Mangold will be a regular for the rest of his career, as will Long...what's your point? Long is a very good LT, congrats to him on making a Pro Bowl in his rookie year.

Oh, really? I wouldn't say that about any player in the league.

Right now, Jake Long is a great, dominant LT. Right now, Mangold is not great, dominant C. Who knows what next year brings.

However, we can all agree that Buffalo's O-Line looks pretty crappy.

Knock em while you can. The interior, especially with both Wood and Levitre coming in will be very good. If the team had remembered they traded away a left tackle and then took steps to replace him, they could have a good O-line themselves. The Pats have retooled pretty well along the offensive front.
