That is true. It is just historically not looking good for him to be even decent for a rookie in 2009.

you cant hold folks to their predictions, cause crap happens. injuries, meltdowns, etc.
(note: id rather get a hot poker in the eye, than pick one of these dogs ahead of my Phins, so...)

so assuming all things equal and every team is relatively healthy:

Dolphins: 11-5 all the fundamentals and hard work is in place, its just a matter of being good.

Pats: 10-6 is this the year they get old on D? has brady gone hollywood?

Bills: 9-7 i think they were much better than their record indicated, and that Edwards can be a solid qb if he stays healthy and gets some breaks.

Jets: 6-10 lotta talkin without much football. i think ryan flops like all the other ryans and all the other baltimore d-coordinators.

wanna make a bet? no way 9 wins gets an afc wildcard no shot in hell. 9 wins may win a weak *** division like the AFC West. but it wont get a wildcard. there will still be a slew of teams closing on Sundays, like the 08' Fins.

We should rename this thread the Jets vs. dolphins Homeristic Contest.

Dolphins 11-5 with the improvements we made this offseason, no reason not to equal last year. Only this season we win 1 or 2 games in the Playoffs.
Pats 11-5 Brady is older, unstable knee and the D is getting old.
Jets 7-9 Ryan will suck as a HC just like his daddy did.
Bills 7-9 T.O. should make things at least newsworthy up there.

    No Homerism here!

    New England: 15-1
    New York: 10-6
    Miami: 8-8
    Buffalo: 7-9

BTW, whoever compared Carr's situation to Sanchez's must be on acid. Carr was behind one of the worst lines in NFL history while Sanchez enters into in at WORST Top 6, 7 Offensive Line.

And these 9-7/10-6 New England predictions are hilarious. They're somehow going to get worse after getting back the best QB or second best QB in the NFL, plus fixing up their weakest position (Cornerback).

I fail to see how the Patriots improved their cornerback situation. Shawn Springs, Leigh Bodden, and Darius Butler are not guarenteed fixes. Out of those three, you may get a future starter out of Bodden or Butler, but thats it.

As for Tom Brady coming back and suddenly bringing the Pats 13-16 wins, I think that is just crazy. Brady cannot play any better than Cassel was playing at the end of last year. The team has capped out and they will not win more than 11 games this year. When they start bringing in guys like Joey Galloway and Fred Taylor (both of which with Springs apparently gives them an amazing team according to ESPN). It is a sign of trouble.

Brady can play better and would've played better than Cassel in the FIRST HALF of the Jets game, the entire Steeler game, the entire San Diego game and the entire Indianapolis game. When Cassel went up against good teams like them, he under performed. New England easily wins 13 games last year with Brady. Easily. Now they've added those Corners, two good Tight Ends, Fred Taylor and Joey Galloway.

And you're telling me that Springs, Bodden & Butler arn't a huge upgrade over Hobbs & a bunch of nobodies?

Pass the blunt over here brother. :hi5:

124, I like ya buddy, you know I do. However, I don't think they are a huge upgrade. You don't know what you have in Butler, Bodden could go either way, and Springs would be the same as us bringing in Madison, an over the hill corner does you know good.

I do like Alex Smith, but I think Taylor and Galloway are past their prime and were a sign of desperation.

you gotta take these prediction threads with a grain of salt. anything can happen. who wouldve thought miami would go 11-5 and win the east last year. only thing im pretty sure of is that 9 wins wont get a wildcard this year.

    Wanny, Saban, Cam Cam.

And do I even need to mention our QB's. lol.

The way I look at it 124 is that there are plenty of things in life to be pessimistic about. I am not going to waste my time on being down on my team, heck even in the 1-15 season I focused on the draft and free agency coming up (plus the GM league of course).

Plus I just see the signs of the Patriots eroding a tad (for now).

What has sanchez done to make you think hes so great? get drafted by The Jets would be my guess.

Carr was far better in collage.

This time last year all you could talk about was how great Favre was and how he was gonna win a S/B with the Jets.

Now that all the dreaming has been laid out in front of us let me say this........

THE MIAMI DOLPHINS ARE THE DIVISION CHAMPIONS.

That said, common sense should lead one to believe that New England will again step up and take this division. Why? TOM BRADY.......

The Miami Dolphins stood up and took advantage of opportunity. It was not the Jets. It was not the Bills. This three man race to take advantage of the fact that Tom Brady was injured showed which team was capable of winning.

Let me give you some examples of "taking advantage":

This entire division benefitted from the fact that we played the worst division in 2008 football - the AFC West. The division was so bad that the lone coach who survived the 2008 campaign won the division by default. It accounted for 4 wins in an 11 win season for the Dolphins. That's a full 36 percent of the win total. WE DO NOT PLAY THE WORST DIVISION IN FOOTBALL IN 2009.

The Jets choked up three losses to that division and they were done. Three losses to the worst division in football!! Two of them were not just losses. They got hammered to the tune of 90 points in TWO GAMES.

The lowly Bills are the unexplainable. After a red hot start, they just caved. What should have been the Bills comeback season was stolen by the Dolphins. They siezed the opportunity versus the AFC West. They just cannot win in their division - AFC East. That spells trouble for the 2009 campaign.

But this post isn't about the also rans in the AFC East. This post is about predicting the AFC East. Jim Kelly was injured and Frank Reich carried the Bills through the playoffs. Dan Marino was injured and Scott Mitchell carried the Dolphins to the playoffs. It has happened time and again. The quarterback is injured, the good teams still make the playoffs. Tom Brady was injured in the first game of 2008. His team came within ONE GAME of winning the division. He's back. He is a Hall of Fame quarterback. Just as Kelly and Marino were Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Did you ever count your team out when your Hall of Famer started the season? Why would you?

Never-the-less this division came down to two key victories for the Dolphins in 2008. The game versus the Jets was the ultimate decider but as it turns out - they didn't matter. They sealed their fate much earlier in the season with losses to the WORST division in football. The decisive game to this season was game 3. It was Matt Cassels second start. It was the day the Dolphins launched Single Wing football on the NFL. I do not see any of this calamity in 2009. I see a team coming back with it's starting quarterback who finished his last full season by winning ALL 16 GAMES of their regular season.

We can all cheer for our team and celebrate the fact that we ARE the DIVISION CHAMPIONS. But until Tom Brady is dead and gone, the target at the top will remain the Patriots.

Chad was great in 2004?:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

2006 he was middle of the line. You could've led us to the postseason and then put up a horrible performance in the Wild Card round.

Chad had one great season in New York: 2002 and one above average one: 2004.

This time last year I never predicted a Super Bowl with the Jets and even when he first came to the Jets I wasn't talking Super Bowl. The only time I was talking Super Bowl was when we were 8-3 and I wasn't posting on ThePhins at the time.

Carr was better at Fresno State? AWESOME.

Sanchez is behind a MUCH better Offensive Line and that was my point that you clearly just decided to ignore. David Carr could've been good, but his Offensive Line killed his confidence.

Until the Patriots actually start winning only 9 and 10 games a season, I will not believe it until it happens. 11-5 with Matt Cassel just shows how good of a coach Bill Belichick is.

I fully expect an at worse 13-3 campaign in New England. 14-2/15-1 is my prediction, I went with the better record because New England usually does even better than expected. You can predict them to go 12-4, they'll go 14-2.

Many New England doubters here and on JetNation.

    To me, its a joke.

    New England will dominate again.

That is a huge jump with one season as a starting QB and a NFL QB. Sanchez doesn't look like a natural gun slinger type QB.

Those first 6 games he is going to play if he starts right away are going to be painful.

I'm not expecting a playoff season from the Jets. I'm expecting slight improvement. I'm not expecting Sanchez to be Brady or P.Manning. He will struggle early on, against some opponents, but we face some weak teams early on that should help.

The Jets have significantly improved there team. Many outsides over-rated the joke that has become Laveranues Coles the past 3 years. Jerricho Cotchery has out performed him in every way and the trio of youngsters, along with Dustin Keller, can easily be better for the team than he was.

Not to mention the aggressive Defense and the players brought in on the Defensive side of the ball.

At this point of the year its all a guessing game for the Jets, Dolphins & Patriots.

My guess is New England is back to their dominant form and the Jets & Dolphins will compete for a WC berth.

    We'll see.

MIAMI 12-4 Ronnie Brown has a huge year while Pennington runs a steady ship. The defense improves in the pass rush and one of our rookie DBs shines.

New England 10-6 The Pats offense breaks all kinds of records...cause their defense leaves them in a hole. They just don't have the horses on D anymore. But they'll be back.

jets 5-11 Dirty Sanchez gets the nod at QB and has a disasterous rookie season. Junior QBs with minimal starting experience have terrible rookie years. The wheels fall off Thomas Jones. Their defense is mediocre.

Bills 5-11 This team has no identity and no direction. They realize that Edwards is not the answer. Marshawn demands a trade. Buffalo is cold and no one likes it there.

Guys, Tom Brady has had an INFECTION, the most likely and suspected infection was MRSA (a form of staph infection) in his knee after his surgery. Tom Brady may have been able to rehab his knee enough to be able to run around on it, but there is no way he is going to be the same quaterback. If it was MRSA, much of the tissue that is in the joints has been damaged and eaten away, causing arthritis type pain in his knee. That ligament was also infected and damaged, meaning that it probably isn't going to be very strong. Tom Brady might play, but I doubt that he is going to be the same, or that he plays the entire season.

Brady didn't have MRSA, after doing a search it seems that the rumor started on PFT, which doesn't surprise me in the least. Infact, the NYTimes reported that neither Tom Brady nor Peyton Manning had contracted MRSA in their knees, so there is nothing to that story.

Brady will be fine, of that I'm sure.

You might be right. But don't you hope you are wrong? What's with everyone waxing poetic about the Patsies lately? I hope this isn't one of those debates that you guys are hoping for the chance to come back and say, "I told you so!"

I think deep down we all know that the Patriots are one of the most, if not the most dangerous teams in the league. Still I'd much rather spend my time (especially here) hating them and hoping the wheels fall off! :hi5:

I'm not big on predictions but I'll give you a range of wins.

Patriots:anywhere from 10-13 wins - Dont delude yourselves a Haelthy Brady makes their offense nearlu unstoppable. But their aging defense is another story.

Fins: anyhere from 7-10 wins: Yes we have gotten better, but so has the rest of the divison and we do play a tougher schedule. We have a young secondary(dont be suprised if Vontae or Sean struggle abit). Despite what the media says we are not all about the wildcat, we are so much more than that. Ginn and Turner have supposedly impressed but lets wait until the pads come on in TC.

Jests: anywhere from 5-9 wins - Their D will be sold, but with no sold WRs and a rookie QB as well as their offense having to face a stacked box, their running game wont get that far. No one is scared by an inexpericed rookie.
and when your D has to come on the field every 3 downs they tend to get tired, and when that happens you lose games. Of course I could be way off on how Sanchez plays and he could be the next Matt Ryan.

Bills: anywhere from 4-8 wins- There are simply too many question marks with this team and TO has shown his age the past few years, can he still be effective? How will Edwards play a year after getting his bell rung? Who will step up at LT? Who will bring the pass rush? Is Dick Juaron really that inept(yes, yes he is)

I was at the supermarket today and I picked up one of the Pro Football Magazines. They have us finishing second to the Patriots.

    Pats 13-3

    Dolphins 9-7

    Jets 6 - 10

    Bills 4 - 12

And, btw, they predict the Giants and the Patriots in the Superbowl again, with the Pats winning.

Sorry Joe - if the Jests go 16 - 0, I will drive to your house and give you a huge kiss!

I don't play the "I told you so" game, I already know that I'm right, so why waste time with the formalities? :wink2:

Of course I hope I'm wrong, I hope that Brady is done and we never lose a game in my lifetime, but that isn't realistic. Brady has been running, cutting and jumping on his knee since the NFC championship game, all reports are that he's at least on schedule and some have said he's ahead of where he should be at this point. I don't want to be one of the folks that fools themselves into believing that Brady is done and then be on the ledge ready to jump when it doesn't turn out to be the case.

Will make errant throws to avoid getting hit...

The unknow still faces Brady... that is when the real bullets start flying and he is facing pass rushers ready to hit him...

Will he force errant throws to avoid getting hit hard???

He is strong will, and smart of course, so he maybe will be unfazed...but that is still the unknown...
