Well it was a TV show in the 60's. GGI didn't exist yet. I guess they could have done claymation. They did have some aliens that were just globs of goo, some that were balls of light, and one that was a crawling rock meatball thing. They even had one that was in a chest. TNG upped it a little. There were some that were not just humanoid. Crystaline, various creatures of odd shape that lived in deep space like animals in our forrests / oceans but TNG had CGI. And as mentioned there was an episode that explained that many of the races were seeded from the same source. Star wars was a major theatre release. So it had the benifit of bigger budget and newer tech. The story of star wars however really wasn't that original. Lucas himself admits it was based on old fantasy tales. Star Trek is much better.
Okay not to stray too far off topic, but while we might disagree about EVERYTHING political I do not question your taste buds. That thing is damned good.
Ewoks, Jar-Jar, Gray Macaroni & Cheese inside of Ton-Tons, "Nooooooooo", Anakin ages 10 years in the time it takes the Princess to age 2, The Race Announcers from E.1, Ewoks defeat the Empire with rocks and sticks, C-3PO and the fact he can speak thousands of languages and decided his main voice was an effeminate English Nancy boy, "shootin' wamp rats with a t1-11"(or whatever he said), Yoda never wins a fight, the little Fraggle Rock reject next to Jabba, the guy that looks like Dr. Zoidberg but without the humor, destroying a megaton walking tank by effing tripping it, the Millennium Falcon (mind you they don't know what a falcon is) looks like a a partially eaten pizza, the Force is some genetic stupidity, all storm troppers are clones of Bobba-Fet's dad, Billy Dee Williams, danish hair, and sexual tension and making out between brother and sister. /discussion
John Williams Imperial March alone trumps everything in the Star Trek world. Don't forget these Robot Chicken and Blue Harvest I don't know why embed isn't working youtube it!
Damn, no offense dude, you kinda sound like a disgruntled Trekkie that got egged outside a convention center.
I've never cared for Star Trek until the new movie, but I only cared about Star Wars when I was 5-10.
Yes...because the "Ewok Celebration" wasn't. And yet it's legal to try to act seriously alongside a muppet. The Borg and Khan. > Vader. Vader turned out to be a puss in the end. Khan, in his dying breath, told Kirk "From hell's heart, I stab at thee..." Badass to the end. Worf would have kicked Solo's *** all across the universe. Star Trek = no need for a religious figure. FTW. *ahem* 'Nuff said. Fanboy. Who is cooler than anything in the entire Star Wars universe. Your volley.
Pagan, you are right. The Borg are just about the BEST villian ever in anything ever created. They dont bring you to the dark side, they F'n assimilate you.
Come on Pagan don't be brining your butterface chick with the thing on her face in here against Princess Leia. Besides can your girl inspire this much imitation? And if you want to toss dumb hairy creatures into the mix.
Yoda is that badass. Your definition of badass absolutely sucks . The blonde guy with the mullet who says "thee" is more badass than Vader? Sorry, it's already Game.Set.Match. Star Wars won awhile ago. Not to mention the weapons of choice. Lightsabers FTW.
section its just a fiction series why cant someone think Star Trek is better? I doubt you will persuade them. Oh wait I got it.... "you will vote for Star Wars"
Your own argument contradicts itself. You tell me my definition of badass sucks immediately after saying that a tiny green muppet that sounds like Grover is badass. I don't even have to couinter that one! Dude...I had the misfortune of spending a weekend in Disney Hollywood Studios during "Star Wars Weekend". If you truly think Star Wars fans are as cool as in the carefully selected photos you posted, spend 20 minutes on a line for a ride while four guys who've more than likely never seen a naked female before stand behind you dressed in full costume in 90 degree heat arguing over what planet bounty hunters come from. Let's face it...BOTH franchises inspire a bunch of guys to be sitting at their keyboards arguing about them on a SATURDAY NIGHT. What does that tell you?
It tells you you better stop judging me and my saturday night activities. I CHOOSE TO BE HOME ALONE!!!
Just want to go on record: The "carefully-selected" pics I posted were the very first pics that came up under GISs under "Trekkies" and "Star Wars fans" respectively... Try it yourself... Okay, not exactly true, the first pic for "Trekkies" was this: ...but I didn't think that really applied. ...and bounty hunters come from all planets, duh... True... FML...
At least SWs fans dont have a label, theyre just called fans. Also, Trekkies think Star Trek is Science Fact.
Star Wars, no doubt about, Star Trek took itself far too seriously. Han Solo was a smuggler/n'er do well, a character like that would not last .0003 seconds on Statist Trek...err...Star Trek..
Uh i think that applies to both fanbases at least theyre not re-living the 80s like some people i know
I'm certainly not going to argue specific scenes from each series/film. Put it this way, there have been 11 (!) Star Trek films, only one has been memorable and that was due to the Khan character, one film had the Enterprise going back in time to save the whales... Dude...whales?...Can anyone even name the plots from the other 10 films? Star Trek is pure cheeseball, fans have been known to learn the Klingon Language for pete's sake, they are so geeky Bill Gates won't hang out with them..
At least you can recall the character, I have no clue what the other ten Star Trek film plots are/were. How to speak Klingon: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oybRKGAzVAc&feature=related"]YouTube - Pretty Intense Klingon Lesson[/ame] Or for the Ubber Maximus Trek Geek..."I feel pretty" sung in Klingon: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPNscddnGRI&feature=related"]YouTube - "I Feel Pretty" sung in Klingon[/ame] No wonder Bill Gates doesn't pick up the phone when the Trekkie convention calls...
You can recall kirk, spock, scotty, etc I'm sure come on now. there is nothing wrong with being bi lingual. You're such a xenophobe.
The best star trek film wasn't a Star Trek film, it was Galaxy Quest. As for the characters, Shatner said it besT: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihsSmJNsDX8"]YouTube - William Shatner's "Get a Life" promo[/ame] You're 30, have you ever kissed a girl? Priceless... In this case that is the correct use of xenophobe, as in biased toward my species, not some Klingon wannabes...sheesh...a disgrace to humanity if you ask me...
Do you really want to claim there are no bad characters in Star Trek? I would stack Vader, Yoda, Boba Fett, Luke, Leia, Solo, Chewbacca, R2D2 & C3PO up against anyoneyou can bring from Star Trek for memorable characters. As a matter of fact taking Kirk, Spock & Scotty out of the picture the rest are second tier characters at best.
Well, it's not that Star Trek was a terrible franchise, I can still watch the shows occasionally, it's more some people go completely overboard and blur the line between enjoyable franchise and real, not "reel" life. The blogger I C&Ped that Shatner quote from was playing what "Capt Kirk" said off like he was merely joking, on the SNL skit he was joking, but he actually had said that stuff at a Trekkie Convention and even the blogger refuses to believe it. FWIW, I used to like the "Q" character from the series.
The problem is that NONE of the characters from Star Wars are original. They are all borrowed from other stories with a few minor tweaks to fit their universe.
I said that where again?? picard, not second tier. janeway, 7 of 9, data, yeah you are missing a few first tier characters.
You see, that would work if it actually were true. Like most Star Wars geeks, you are not in tune with what's happening in the real world. Metal is alive and well, my friend. Look outside of what popular American music shows you and you'll see that. So I'm not "re-living the 80's"...I'm kicking *** in the new millennium. Aside from the fact that BOTH fanbases are re-living the 70's.
Classic good -vs- evil has been a theme a lot longer than either of these series have existed. Star ship captains and aliens weren't exactly a new theme when Star Trek came out either. By pointing out the worst character in Star Wars franchise history I felt you were implying hat Jar Jar was worse than anything in Star Trek or that Star Trek didn't have fallable characters. You know the glass house argument. OK, I"ll give you Picard but no way any of those others stack up to the main tier of Star Wars. Data is just a c3po knockoff. Funny movie, enjoyed it.
Star Wars is a carbon copy of every sci-fi book ever written and a lot of movies made is my point. They even stole the Jedi mind controll thing from the book Dune. There are just so many similarities to other stories that came before it, that its almost just a rip of other peoples work. I dont see how that works when Data is an updated version of Spock, and minus being robots he doesnt have much in common with c3po either way.
