i'm not a college hoops fan at all, but i am a UF fan... i've noticed Florida was in the semifinals for something after watching their game last night, but i don't see them on the NCAA final four bracket page.... so i'm completely confused. are there two different tournaments or something? thanks to whomever can clear this up for me.
Which isnt entirely correct Because college B-ball feels compelled to let lesser teams in, every "Major" conference in the land gets an automatic bid. Those "lesser division" teams comprise the 11-16 spots in the NCAA tourney. Many of those teams couldnt hold a torch to a handfull of the teams in the NIT...but then again, cinderella does shine at the NCAA from time to time...
I think thats where the word NIT PICK comes from. The NIT picks the best teams left over after the NCAA selects their teams. Its kind of like a consolation tourney
ok well its hazy but not completely clear because there is a lot of (understandable) sarcasm here... so its a consolation tournament basically? Then why are some powerhouse schools in the NIT tournament? what am i missing?
Because they didn't win games they were supposed too. Ohio St key losses was against Michigan and Minnesota. Their key non-conference wins came against Syracuse and Florida but both were out round 1 in their conference tourny so it really didn't help them.
The NIT is actually older than the NCAA tournament by 1 year (NIT-1938 NCAA-1939). The NIT was a bigger tournament than the NCAA was until the mid-1950's, due to the NIT being in New York (the NCAA tournament was often in Kansas City), and with a bigger field, (the NCAA had only 8 teams in it's 1st decade). In fact a team in 1950, City College of New York won both titles. However a lot of New York based schools had gambling scandals in the 1950's and that hurt the reputation of the NIT. Also expanded fields in the NCAA(16 by the mid-1950's, 25by the early 1960's, 32 in 1976 with conference runner-ups allowed in, and 64 with unlimited conference members by 1982), hurt the NIT and made it an also-ran tournament.
oh crap, byroan said nearly the same thing didnt he.... i've been saying that for the past three years. people ask, and that's what i say. just cuz he got to it first...
i dunno - it seems everytime Ohio State squares off against Florida, they lose. what was that joke? What do Ohio State & marijuana have in common? they both get smoked in bowls...
Laugh all you want but Ohio St has been quite successful these past years. We may have got beat but we don't see anyone else stepping upto the plate to play in the National title game
No that was an old one.... And our record in BCS bowls is 3-3.. SO GET OFF OUR FRIGGIN BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
