Ryan is claiming there is an open competition for the starting Qb position, but actions say Nacho' Sanchez will be "the guy":

    Reps are king.

Opening Day should be interesting, the Jets have the weakest Wr corps in the AFC East, the Titans are losing Cb's at a couple a week clip.

    Well away from here
Wait the Jets are a real NFL team?

Holy ****,.......I never knew. The whole sharing a stadium with a team whose name is on the stadium threw me off. I thought they were being really nice to the scout team guys by giving them their own "team". This is Miacheal Keaton's "Dream Team".

That's fine, this thread (and the threads about the teams we face this season) are more about getting a feel for the mix that a team has come up with as they head into the season.

Right now, the Jets are probably going to start Mark Sanchez, with a Wr corps that has very few catches or games played collectively and street FA's can come into camp and have a good chance of playing this season.

Funny you should mention that Conu, I was watching NFLN's "10 snake bitten franchises" and Artie Lange was on and said:

"when I was young I was a Jets fan, then I discovered women, when I got older I became a Jets fan again because at least with them, I know i'm going to get screwed"

In seriousness, the Jets starting 3 Wr have a collective 51 starts among them...not bad...but 48 of them belong to Chansi Stuckey, Brad Smith has two...

Things could go really badly up in the meadowlands this season, I'm not predicting it, from the outside looking in, the Jets play the same schedule as we do (more or less) and their offense is looking a touch shakey.

The Jets play the Titans week 3. We open at Houston, who is having quite a few corner problems themselves. By the way, Sanchez is really performing better and starting to take over the QB competition.

    Sanchez taking ovah:::

Jets’ Sanchez sizzles with first-team offense

By DENNIS WASZAK Jr., AP Sports Writer

CORTLAND, N.Y. (AP)—Mark Sanchez reared back and lofted a pretty pass downfield that landed in Jerricho Cotchery’s hands for a touchdown.

It was the first play of team drills and the beginning of a brilliant practice Saturday for the New York Jets rookie quarterback.

“I put it in a place where only J-Co can get it,” Sanchez said, “and he made a great adjustment for the ball.”

Working exclusively with the first-team offense for the first time this summer, Sanchez completed 10 of 19 passes for two touchdowns and an interception in the morning session. He also further solidified his edge over Kellen Clemens in the team’s quarterback competition.

“Every day needs to be a step forward when you get a chance to go with that first-team group,” said Sanchez, trying to win the spot vacated when Brett Favre retired. “I thought it really showed that I was ready for that, and I took advantage of that time.”

Meanwhile, Clemens struggled running the second-team offense, going 4 of 12 with no scores, an interception—and two other passes that could’ve been picked off.

“With Sanchez getting more reps with the ones is not based on Kellen’s performance, it’s based on Mark’s performance,” coach Rex Ryan said.

Sanchez has looked extremely confident running the offense, and showed the poise of a veteran, particularly in two-minute drills near the end of practice.

“The rook doesn’t make the same mistake twice,” linebacker Bart Scott said. “He throws a solid ball and he gets the ball out of his hands quick.”

Ryan and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer decided Friday night that Sanchez would get the snaps with the first-team offense, and then work with the second team in the afternoon practice.

“I couldn’t even sleep,” Sanchez said, laughing. “It was awesome. Looking over the script a million times, trying to get everything right, so I’m accountable to those guys, and know that when I get in there, those are very important reps.”

The quarterbacks will alternate work with the first- and second-team offenses from this point, although Ryan has already decided Clemens—listed at No. 1 on the depth chart—will start the preseason opener next Friday at home against the Rams.

“I think we’ve laid a very good foundation, but we’re only a week in,” Clemens said. “Obviously, we’ve got another week to get ready for St. Louis.”

Clemens hasn’t looked awful, but he hasn’t been particularly impressive, either. And that’s not good for a quarterback entering his fourth season in the same offensive system. Through 11 practices, Clemens has thrown seven interceptions in 11-on-11 drills compared to Sanchez’s three.

“Kellen’s doing well,” Ryan said. “Does he wish he had a couple of throws back? Sure. I think everybody does.”

This is Clemens’ third competition since being drafted in the second round out of Oregon. As a rookie, he competed with Chad Pennington, Brooks Bollinger and Patrick Ramsey for the job that went to Pennington. He also was in a close competition with Pennington last summer until the Jets traded for Favre.

“We’ll just continue to improve,” Clemens said. “That’s the goal individually and collectively, just to continue improving each day.”

Ryan said he’d like to decide on a starter for the season by the third preseason game, and Sanchez is doing all he can to make that decision an easy one.

“I think he’s starting to really get the offense, it looks like,” Ryan said. “He’s confident—he’s always confident. He’s moving around, and he’s not moving around like a deer in headlights, either, like most rookies have when they see all that stuff that our defense is throwing at them. He’s poised and he’s obviously got the skills to throw the ball.”

Cornerback Darrelle Revis, who Cotchery beat for the early touchdown, has no doubt Sanchez can be a rookie starter.

“He’s being a captain, he’s being a leader,” Revis said. “He’s out there saying stuff to those guys: ‘Let’s get this first down. Let’s move the ball,’ things like that to get the offense ready to go and play.”

Right tackle Damien Woody also liked what he saw in the huddle from Sanchez.

“The thing that really stands out is he’s kind of figuring things out against our defense,” he said. “You’ve got to understand, our defense is one of the most complicated schemes that you will ever see in the National Football League, and he’s doing a heck of a job of identifying what’s going on and making things happen. I’m sure with each day, he’s getting more comfortable with the offense.”

NOTES: Revis was held out of the afternoon practice as a precaution with tightness in his left hamstring. … NT Kris Jenkins (strained left calf), FB Tony Richardson (hip pointer) and S Keith Fitzhugh (bruised left rotator cuff) sat out the morning practice.

My mistake PS17, that should have read "Texans" not "Titans" though back in the day the original Jets franchise started out as the NY Titans.

Either way though, a rookie Qb and 51 starts in total for the Wr corps?

    Just sayin'

Not to talk smack PS17, but when I guest over on Jets boards, the tone is very very subdued, last season people were hyped about Favre and Co, this year Jets fans seem a bit more muted?

Have you noticed that or am I just projecting?

Well, I won't hope for an injury for any player (though Brady came close one time), but my "hope" has nothing to do with Nick Mangold's knee.

iirc, Mangold graded out as the best Center in the AFC East prior to Jake Grove arriving in Miami.

BTW Late Again, that is the sort of thing I had in mind for this thread, one stop shopping for news about our opponents.

T Jones was the man for the Jets last season, if they really believe Leon washington or shonn green can do what TJ can do Sexy Rexy has rocks in the bean:

So let me get this straight, T Jones ran for 1,300 yds last season, but the Jets are willing to trade him for a 4th rd pick because they like the Rookie Greene, but their Wr have virtually no experience, and they plan on starting a rookie Qb and to help the Rook Qb out, they plan on trading the AFC's top rusher?

    Okay...makes sense...<snicker>

I would say that losing Jones would be a crushing blow to you guys.
I really like Shonn Greene and I think he was far and away your best draft pick, he and Leon are NOT ready to replace T-Jones.

Many RB's in the league would have no problems running through the holes that the Jets' O-Line creates. Jones has no breakaway speed and often goes down at first contact. If you can get some good value for him, you gotta make the trade. Although I bet the report is false.

I think if Greene were to start this year, he'd do very well. He is doing great in training camp.

Also -- if the Jets get ANY decent WR for Jones, you make the trade in a heartbeat.

A two dimensional offense is better than a one dimensional offense.

    Be nice....

Apparently the issue is money, the Jets will re-up Leon Washington to a large money deal, T Jones apparently gets a "no soup for you" response and the theory goes TJ will then cause some issues.

It is easy to understand why TJ would be upset, Leon W is being offered a 100% pay increase, he is being offered stugotz after rushing for 1,300 yds.
