    Spurrier fesses up

South Carolina coach and Gator legend Steve Spurrier apologized for leaving UF quarterback Tim Tebow off the coaches' All-SEC team.

I was thinking it may have been Kiffin but it was a Gator who did it.The shame of it.:wink2:

For the peeps that don't follow recruiting here is a quick update.

Ronald Powell the #5 rated player (Rivals) in the country who plays DE from California has made two cross country trips to FL in the last month on his own dime said "I love this place". Very good news

    http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=67362&Sport=1

Mack Brown the #56 rated player in the country was Florida's target from the beginning. This could finally be the RB who can take over a game. Well he committed at Friday Night Lights!! He will sign with the Gators and he won't switch.

    http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=87350&Sport=1

Jeff Luc could be one of the most amazing players I have ever seen play defense and is rated #10 in the country and says Florida has nothing to worry about. He has made a few trips and while I expect him to be a Gator I don't think he commits anytime soon.

    http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=93159&Sport=1

Chris Dunkley who is rated as the #74 bvest player in the country looks to be moving up fast. He plays WR and a gator commit actually said that he was a silent to the Gators. I believe he will be a Gator when its all said and done as well.

    http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=82176&Sport=1

No real bad news because the Gators are choosing who they want.

Brown said all of his friends commited to Georgia so you know they are going to try to get him to switch .There were a lot of decomits last year so we have to be cautious about these early comits.

But the next recruting season will be stellar no doubt.

From a benign point of view, even though I cannot stand Urban Meyer and love G'ville.......Dunkley and Brown deserve to be higher IMHO, especially Dunkley from what I have seen (but I would be wary of Lithonia's competition...), but the more I see of Luc the more he looks stiff, great straight ahead player that can pursue against lesser opponents and make highlights look good but takes a lot of false steps and is a monster hitter but IMHO looks slow off the ball and plays much better straight ahead than side to side......Just my 2 cents but the guy looks sorta one dimensional, although he is a monster physically (and DOMINATES inside and I think he will continue at a higher level to do that) and there is nothing wrong with an early down run stuffer in the SEC but I would not get him confused with Brandon Spikes just yet................again only my humble opinion.

Just FWIW, these guys are always going to put their best plays on you tube, etc (and the problem with Luc is that he faced no real standout RB's that you can see THEM and Luc on)... and we including myself get to see very little HS football generally so ...and again...only FWIW....what I do is look at other highlights to evaluate the other players. I cannot find it quickly but you can look up Randy Hunter of Centinnel's highlights and he makes Luc look like he has his feet in cement and Hunter is at best a marginal 3 star and a 4.8 type guy.....IMHO best to go with what you see and not what you read on some of the recruiting sites although you can definitely pare down who to look at........just my opinion and do not mean to sound in any way like an "expert" at HS football.......

Brown will be a Gator. Georgia was the only other school to really challenge for him but this race is over. This kid will not change his comiitment. I know he could but that would be a huge shock to me.

Jeff Luc has been to some camps and I have heard nothing but he was the best player at the camp every single time. Not saying he is the next Brandon Spikes but the guy looks amazing on film but your right its only highlights. I guess the only way we will really see how good he will be is to watch him in college.

Caviat..you only get so much from you tubes and rivals....so it is easy to be wrong.....

    Great article Crunch.

Personally FWIW I do not know if Vann fits but he sure offers a "different" type runner....when you watch him he starts and stops and I am not saying IMO he is as good as Barry Sanders but he has that type of move in the open field, his acceleration and stop/start move is unreal. I call him as a stud somewhere down the line. Not a long straight line speed guy like Demps/Rainey, but still has a ton of speed with the pads on...at least in highlight videos.

Chaz Green is has potential stud written all over him IMO...he has great feet and is country big, the Gator weight room will put him in the 315 range (he looks light at listed 290)with great feet, ....IMHO.

I also like the clips I have seen of Dorsey (great forward closing speed)..... and Elam is unreal and Elam is written in stone Gator. Hampton "looks" like he weighs about a buck 20 but he looks like he covers without any effort (very fluid) and Independence kids are very well coached by Tom Knotts and well prepared. I think at worst he is a solid cover corner in the SEC early and if he fills out a potential stud, definitely worth the small risk.

But I really am souring on Jeff Luc. I watched some more clips after another post I made and he just does not look instinctive and is a short area player IMHO...but he hits a ton and his highlights make him look better than when you watch him more...IMO high bust potential. I also do not see Burton as the top 1% of 1% and his numbers are not great other than his low INT ratio, maybe he is better when you see him other than highlights....good definitely not great player from the little I saw...seems more like a USF guy than a UF guy......IMO

An article I though you Gator fans might enjoy. Link to whole story and picture below.

"New Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin invaded Florida last February and stole a high-profile recruit from the Gators when he talked Pahokee wide receiver Nu’Keese Richardson out of his UF commitment to sign with the Vols.

That success has compelled Kiffin to try and establish more of a Tennessee presence in the talent-rich state of Florida.

At last week’s SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala., Kiffin said a Tennessee billboard will be going up in south Florida in the next few weeks.

“There will be a billboard going up there in the next month that I think you’ll be excited to see, that will give you something to write about that will help us, too,” Kiffin said."

    Interesting tidbits.......

    - Joe Haden (HS QB) has been taking snaps on offense in practice, Meyer says they may run him in some Wildcat plays

    - No surprise, Florida opens the season at #1 in the coaches poll 53 of 59 total votes

    - As of right now, Vegas has Florida as double digit favorites in EVERY game this season (11 @ LSU)

    - Riley Cooper will return for his senior season after being drafted in baseball by the Texas Rangers

    - Andre Debose, who many say is our "new Percy" is not a fan of the comparisons and is actually the opposite of Harvin when it comes to offensive preferences: “I feel more comfortable running the ball, but I play wide receiver, too.”

    - Omar Hunter has lost close to 30 pounds and looks to be in great shape

It's a money thing. The Gators want 8 home games every other year b/c of the additional revenue it provides the school. That means they can only have so many home and away agreements with other schools. They voted against the increased SEC schedule 15 years ago (or so) b/c those are all home and away agreements. The SEC requirements along with the FSU commitment fills up all their available home and away slots. The rest have to be filled by teams that are willing to play UF in G'ville. Generally, elite teams won't do that without a reciprocal agreement.

UM has one more slot available b/c FSU is part of the ACC. I also don't think they earn as much additional revenue from home games since they don't own the stadium. So there isn't as much of a difference for UM in revenue between home/away games.

You won't find any disagreement from me there, Troy is a pretty good team. What upsets me is the people who complain about UF playing cupcakes, when in reality is most teams open with cupcakes. You remove the BYU-OK, UGA-OKST, Ala-VT, and BST-Ore games and the rest were fairly soft. USC played San Jose State for God's sake and the media always wants to shove it down our throat about how elite they are. Yet I have not heard one complaint about their opening schedule, and they play pac 10 which is a much weaker conference than the SEC. The only reason the "experts" and everyone else complain about our weak openers is because they want us to lose. Jealousy at its finest. Lastly, I'll say that I think it pays off to play a weak team week 1. If you have any question marks, it allows you to iron them out without the fear of an upset.

Tennessee week! Been looking forward to this game for quite awhile. Tennessee has always been my most hated rival personally and Lame Kitten has only added to it. After that pathetic showing against UCLA and our boys being so pumped up about this game it should be very fun to watch.
