Pretty happy with the front seven overall. They dominated the LOS. Pass rush was good. Vontae stepped up. Offensive line looked pretty solid with Donald Thomas in there. Pennington was 8/11 with a drop. Our running backs looked great top to bottom.
Other than the horrible tackling on Williams TD run, I really like the way our first teamers played on both sides of the ball.
Padre I think we'll see our starters catch their stride next game when they'll be on the field for awhile. We got 8/11 and a TD out of our starting QB. We got some good ypc from RB and RW, too. What pleased me was watching our depth guys performing well.
You'll see, White did not do much, Williams imploded, Turner was inconsistent, Wake was being handled by the Tackle Starters.. W3 did not really provide what we needed tonight
Even on that play, we had him for a loss. Freaking arm tackling. But even on their shining play we were dominating the LOS.
I would add Henne. He impresses me every time he plays. He may make a small mistake here or there but he's improved over last year and I think could be counted on if Penny goes down also lex hilliard made a huge statement this game
No long plays or big plays from the Depth Players, that bothers me a bit, preseason is more or less our depth v their depth, and their depth did fine against us.
That's what makes the play disappointing, we had him stopped. Edit: And of course that's the play of the game on the Panthers coverage.
Pat White played one series tough. He didn't get much chance to do anything. He didn't do anything bad IMO. Williams is a UDFA. Turner's a rookie. Wake's essentially a rookie. Not trying to sugar coat it. But these are young guys who aren't starting. The starters looked pretty darn good. So have a lot of the backups. There is some stuff on the OL I want to see tomorrow that I just can't see well enough on the stream.
Cam Wake is actually a very fine all around linebacker, for all of the passrushing stuff, Wake has a really solid all around game, from stuffing the run to dropping back into coverage, Wake can play in the NFL. He would make a great nickel Lb as well as a speed rusher.
I'd say our front seven depth beat their OL pretty good though. They had the most success when it was their starting OL vs. our 2's and 3's.
McCown only had a few pass plays where he wasn't being pressured. Moses, Wake and McD were a big part of it.
And Lexy had a nice long run, but still, guys like Walden and George or Haynos and Armstrong did not really do very much. Granted, *****in' about 3rd stringers, our #1's and #2's played well, but I would prefer to see a roster stuffed with talent on cut down day(s)
Not a bad game. But definitely some areas that need some attention: arm tackling and special teams at the forefront.
Well some of these players are making it easier on our coaching staff to get down to 53. I think we'll all be happy with our depth then.
I don't know I guess I just saw some things differently. Hilliard had a 39 yd run. Cobbs had a 35 yd recptn. Turner had one for 14 yds. London had one for 16. Lionel Dotson had a sack and a FF. I agree it wasn't a perfect effort, though.
The news on FOX here in NC say it's confirmed that Smith and Allen had swine flu. Any confirmation from S. Fla?
Sparano seems pretty happy in the postgame PC. Happy with the OL, Ricky/Ronnie. Happy with our 1's vs. their 1's. OT: no test results back on Allen, Smith per Tony.
Chad Pennington looked great. Ronnie and the O-Line looked great. When Delhomme was able to pass on us it was against Nate Jones. The only problem was the arm tackles on that big DeAngelo Williams run. That wildcat sure is somethin else to watch.
with 3:23 left in the third he beat Geof Schwartz, and that was a sack, McCowns knee and entire leg was touching the turf...
Yep, Blame the douchebag ref, the things I yelled at him cannot be repeated here, luckily there were no children where I was sitting.
