Maybe I didn't notice before, but when I logged in today, I get ads at the top and bottom of the forum. I was thinking Club Level didn't get ads?
There are non-obnoxious ads for everyone now. The site is committed to being able to provide some greater benefit for our members (Supporting members in need, buying season tickets to give away as prizes, etc) and to pay our hosting costs. For the past year, George and I, as well as some very generous members have made up the difference between what it cost to stay online and to extend some added benefits. There has never been a commitment to not show ads but we have done so as a courtesy. This practice has put a burden on George and I. We needed to find a way to help the site pay its own way without taking away the added benefits that makes this site what it is -- all about our members. If you compare our ad campaign to other sites (cough...), I believe that we are being reasonable in our approach. That said, we welcome your comments.
In a perfect world, there would be no ads, ever, the site would double as an ATM machine and Malcolm and I would be rich enough to retire to a life of watching football and casually courting only the choicest of females. Rest assured, we will monitor things and have a large amount of control over what is shown. So if you see anything out of line or just plain awful, please let us know and we will handle it.
It's fine, it just threw me off because I wasn't used to them. I can totally understand, and it is a small price to pay to be able to use this site.
Seriously, if you see anything like that.....I can arrange for a meeting tomorrow night over by da docks, no disrespek how ya doin.
go to tools>addons>get addons. type in adblock plus. should get the addon in the search function, just click to install it. restart firefox and bam, you're done. no more annoying ads. Edit: It usually gives you a list of constantly updated filter lists, i chose the first option smartfilter or something like that. Double Edit: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4364?src=api heres the link if you can't find it.
And by doing so you take money away from the site. When you block the ads on a page with AdBlock, we do not get credit for them. You have the ability to whitelist sites in AdBlock. I humbly request that you do so on ours. You don't have to click on the ads. We don't do those kinds. Just as long as they load. We are making a concerted effort to keep the ads non-obnoxious. Thanks
If you don't get credit, I won't use the AdBlock. Maybe you can hook me up with an escort service though.
I'll donate and be a member of VIP, I totally understand the wanting to make more money so the site is self-sufficient. IMO should be ad-less for those that pay for subscriptions and what-not.
That is your right. And I cannot complain too loudly because you are one of the great folks who subscribe to use this here site.
i use no script to block the adds, but if asked to I can turn it off for this site........ fyi no script >>>> then any add blocking software
It threw me off a little tool.... Especially since the adds show up not just at the top and bottom for me but also between posts, which is kinda annoying. That being said, do what you have to do. I never want this site to be a financial burden to the owners/operators and am perfectly willing to put up with some adds for the ability to talk Dolphins football with some of the most dedicated and in depth dolphins fans on the net. Its a very small price to pay.
I have no problem with ads at top and bottom of pages. The ads in between posts are maddening. Not trying to be a jerk, just being honest. This probably will affect my decision to re-up when my club membership expires. Again, this isn't meant as a threat, just honest feedback. I'll still visit the site, and I appreciate all you guys do and that you guys need to generate income, but if my money isn't buying ad free content, then it's not worth spending it.
I actually don't mind the ads and will click on links once in a while to support the site. The AOL News AD had some interesting articles and I clicked on it. Do you guys get paid per click or per transaction?
With all due respect I think most of us are in Club for the content, not for an ad free experience I suspect that if you do cancel you'll renew within a few weeks
I didn't say anything about canceling. I just probably won't renew. The content in club is great, but I can get by with what's in the main. IMHO, there are two ways to generate income on a message board. Ads or subscriptions. This to me is kind of like having your cake and eating it too. Asking subscribers to deal with ads is a bit much, again, just my opinion.
No one promised ad-free forums. We did it for the first year but it is getting too expensive for George and I to carry a larger burden than we already do. As the forums grow and our expenses increase, we have two choices: Cut back on speed, reliability, added benefits for our members, and that is who we are here for, or for us to pay the difference. We have an opportunity to close that gap by using a reputable advertising company to generate revenue. Muck and I thought this was better than going backwards but you are welcome to disagree and I respect your decision to not renew.
Gotcha. I didn't mean to imply that you were wrong about anything... But even pay services are loaded with ads now. It's sad but ads are here to stay and will always be. I was listening to Sirius radio the other day and couldn't believe the amount of ads pitched during the programming..
I know ad free was never promised. I hope you don't think I'm accusing you of breaking some kind of deal. Again, this is just honest feedback on how I feel about the ads between the posts. They drive me crazy, but maybe I'll get used to them.
Brother, all members who joined The Club did so because of the premium content. If any of you joined for any other reason, please PM me and we will send you a pro-rated refund. We will not hold anyone hostage in our goal to keep this site alive.
I honestly paid no attention to the ads. Not until it was brought up here. Mal, the one about getting a flat belly...are you guys trying to tell me something??? Love ya Mal.
If Muck and Celt need ads to pay for a second yacht to water ski behind, I'm all for them... I've been on thephins for a long time now and sort of expected the ads to show up sooner or later, and for me what matters about them is they do not make loading a page a slow process, that drives me up a wall. Yahoo is the worst, some ads will literally freeze my browser. Funny thing is, even some sister sites had the long arm of more expensive hosting put on them and thusly there members, I guess it is just a sign of the times.
Fully respect your opinion, but taking their word for it (which is solid) they have two choices. Run ads or raise club prices, either a little or exponentially (depending on their books). Run ads across the top bottom and the sides if you have to, my eyes are trained to gloss over them Maybe they'll get paid so much it'll lower our VIP access So to sum up, ads and the vip memberships are probably a compromise between the two options you mention.
I don's see why anyone is complaining about a few ads. Good grief. If you compare all that the admins provide us with, the family atmosphere, the caring and the great football talk etc. there's nothing to complain about. With all the kindness and help I've gotten here and the true friends I've made, a few ads are a small isignificant thing to even think about, let alone gripe about. thephins is the best and so are our admins., mods and members (most of them)
One thing I have noticed is that the ads try to place cookies. That's kind of cheesy, since I'm not visiting their site, just on a page which happens to contain their ads. Not a big deal for me since I choose which sites place cookies, but could be a problem for someone else if tracking is involved.
Nooooooooo. I just got a Progressive Add at the top of a page with Flo in it. That much fake happiness causes me to want to break things.
