Well we did start the season by beating #18 and #14 back-to-back. Which is a tough task for any team. It also helps that FSU DESTROYED BYU last night. I don't think it's undeserved, but it is surprising to me.
dont get me wrong I'm not saying you guys dont deserve to be there, I thought it would take longer for you guys to be in the top 10.
Totally awesome 1 Florida (55) 3-0 1488 2 Texas (2) 3-0 1428 3 Alabama (3) 3-0 1390 4 Mississippi 2-0 1213 5 Penn State 3-0 1212 6 California 3-0 1169 7 LSU 3-0 1120 8 Boise State 3-0 1038 9 Miami (FL) 2-0 920 10 Oklahoma 2-1 862 11 Virginia Tech 2-1 852 12 USC 2-1 825 13 Ohio State 2-1 810 14 Cincinnati 3-0 739 15 TCU 2-0 674 16 Oklahoma State 2-1 478 17 Houston 2-0 455 18 Florida State 2-1 363 19 Brigham Young 2-1 349 20 Kansas 3-0 347 21 Georgia 2-1 318 22 North Carolina 3-0 271 23 Michigan 3-0 247 24 Washington 2-1 194 25 Nebraska 2-1 132
we'll see over the next two weeks if we deserve that ranking. On number one Florida.. after watching tennesee handle them at home, I don't think they last the year. I'm sadly thinking alabama will get the sec...
I think he meant handled as in....weren't blown away. They stayed in the game and handled their business well. They lost, but they didn't get destroyed or embarassed.
completley expected during a SEC game, TN having the SEC defensive player of the year, and floridas running back having a 101 fever and the flu
unranked into number one's house and held them to 23 points while only being beat by 10... they handled florida pretty rough i'd say
Honestly I think Alabama is a much better team than Florida. Obviously I expect SEC games to be somewhat close, but I really thought you would handle the Vols much easier.
I think anyone in the top 12-15 coul end up playing in the NC game....Florida by far has the easiest road their schedule is horrible, but IMHO yesterday showed how much they really miss Harvin and Murphy........Demps and Rainey can be controlled and their run is suspect. Tennessee is absolutely horrible but played well ....they were pumped and ready with a good defense scheme against Tebow....but I think this was a combination of Florida not being quite as great as everyone thinks and Tennessee simply playing over their heads as they played a game they probably will not play the rest of the year. No one will beat Florida and they have a two game schedule...SEC championship and if they win the NC.....personally I think Cal has the goods to play for the NC...but they always seem to lay an egg against a lesser opponent in conference. Ole Miss is good but 4 is a joke IMHO. I simply cannot see the U winning in Blacksburg and at home against OU.......but split and run the table and their may be a whole bunch of 1 loss teams there at the end of the year and at #9 they can work their way into the mix.....LSU in the top 10 is laughable IMHO....it will be interesting to see who Florida ends up playing in the SEC CG and possibly the NC game......
PSU at #5 is a joke too IMO. Give them a few weeks to prove they are that good, because I don't see it right now.
You forget that its a rivalry game, both squads play at their best in those situations. a win is a win.
UF really has no depth at WR, Deonte Thompson and Aaron Hernandez are Tebow's best targets and DT was hurt. Plus Debose is out for the year. I think this past game showed us how much UF will miss Percy and Murphy.
Yeah I absolutely LOVE Jopa!!! Anywho, it hasn't taken me long to become a Longhorn backer (actually have always liked them, just amplified since I am here now) and I will say they should probably have lost to Tech last night. They were up by I think 11 with about 3 minutes left, still running the hurry up and McCoy is taking snaps with 18-15 seconds left on the play clock Almost gave it away, and running that play clock down to zero is elementary stuff. They also made a fairly good QB look great. I think the Longhorns lose at least 2 games this season.
Georgia Tech drops out of the top 25 for losing to Miami; yet USC, who lost to a HORRIBLE Washington team (that went 0-12 last year) only drops to #12. That's ****ed up.
Dude...did you watch that game?! Washington did everything to lose that game...USC just dug a little deeper to find that something extra to lose it more than WA.
1) USC beat Ohio State and GT hasn't beaten anyone important. 2) USC didn't have their starting QB 3) Washington isnt that bad this year
I love how everyone is going off on UF only scoring 23 points, when UT does have Monte Kiffin as a D-coordinator. Also our Offensive scheme was very very vanilla, we never threw deep twice. I'm not saying we're super human and I try not to act like a true homer. But I think UT is better than people think. They only gave up something like 150 yards in their loss to UCLA. A win is a win IMO
How Iowa started out in the polls at #21, won all 3 of their games, and is not even in the top 25 polls now is beyond me. They had a bad first game which they won by a point, but it was the first game in the season. This may not even matter as they play at Penn State next week, but I wouldn't count them out of the game. Sure we lost Shonn Greene, but our freshman running backs are looking very good, IMO.
Well GIK in college football all you can do is take care of your business. If you beat Penn State you will be top 25 undoubtedly, if you keep it close you will probably be too.
That's exactly my point. Keep winning and you will be top 25. Other teams who may have the same record probably moved up based upon the opponents they beat. The polls right now mean nothing.
I'm glad I could make you happy. When the opposing team is unranked and playing at the home of the number one ranked team, the defensive coordinator is not a valid excuse. Did I mention unranked... Make no mistake, I hate tenn nearly as bad as I do georgia and alabama.. I wanted the gators to score 56... imo, the gators reign is over if they don't find an outside threat
Would have been tough to be worse than a reeally worse looking than it ewas 0 and 12...but I agree with all those freshmen they are getting better....but that is like asking if you want your $hit sandwich with or without mustard............
You live in G'ville.....I live near Knoxville, so we have our own bias towards our local teams that we will tend to over rate..........Dude Tennessee is BAD, they will get better but right now......damn bad.....and i accept my bias of over rating them.......... I bet they lose 6 at least this year in a weak SEC. I think Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina and maybe Kentucky beat them. People are ranking Florida on last years team and the fact that they have the most popular player playing on one of the most popular teams in the country...ESPN and the BCS need Florida like whomever has the world series needs the Yankees.....except ESPN can 'make it happen'...... IMHO it is very obvious that Florida has not filled the Harvin role and miss Harvin and Murphy, Rainey and Demps are both dynamite in space but ordinary as 3 down backs, and their run D is good only in spurts....they do not play anyone so I expect them to remain at the top as they enter the SEC championship game but I would hope we do not see any 'greatest team ever' quotes due to their beating up on mighty Troy and College of Bob or whatever, and a Tennessee team that will more than likely not be bowl eligible. But I doubt all serious fans and Gator fans have no doubt that even playing lousy like against UT that The Florida season starts in the SEC championship game (after their tune up against FSwho)....more than likely against Alabama.
I disagree Alex. the polls are like getting a 10 yard head start in a 100 yard dash based on the fact you ran good your last race. If you are popular, have a good story on a player or two, bring lots of fans and make money for ESPN and the BCS then you are going to start off higher than someone else despite the fact that your team has not played one damn game yet and will open up against 2 or 3 geographically challenged schools...which as you say means nothing....except that I guarantee you that if a team a number one loses early to Poedunk U and a team at number 20 loses to a good team (or in Iowa's case wins) the team at number one is going to have a pretty good chance of climbing back into the race........where you start is damn important IMHO....the reason we will never see no polling until week 6 is the same reason we will never see a playoff...........it would be against the controlling mechanism of ESPN and the BCS and cost them money...us sheep will continue to argue if team X is the greatest of all time as they pound on Western Northern Little Sister Tech State............because ESPN says so.
two things.. first; there should be no ranking until at least halfway through the season second; the ONLY ranking that matters is the last one
