I have to admit, I did not think he would still be here. I know he signed a 4 year contract but I figured he'd leave after 1-2. Is it possible the Tuna has finally found a sweet enough gig to hang around for an entire contract? I suppose only time will tell.

    Finish the job Bill!

It's only been 1 year. He could easily leave after 2.

i suppose i already consider it to be 2, cause well, his part of this season is over basically. (draft, Free agency, re signings) I feel like if he intends to leave after this season, he would have already done it.

Why? It's not like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders here. He has a very competent staff that does basically what he would do. He gets to play and entertain now. If he left tomorrow I wouldn't be shocked but I think he ends up staying the entire contract. He likes where he is and what he's doing.

I think you nailed it 100% brother :hi5:

Something we need to remember is that Tuna hasn't had this particular gig before.
If you look at an org chart for a large company, you always have those people that are un-attached boxes, usually referred to as consultants. That is Parcells in this structure. If you ever talk to somebody that has been there, there isn't a better gig anywhere!

Another thing to remember is that like most sucessful people, he has
    An ego.

I don't think he will be done in Miami until the word "Dynasty" is accosiated with our Franchise again, and of course he will be associated with it.

I think a large part of Bill's decision will have to do with how successful we are this year. I don't think he leaves us in shambles if we struggle. His ego won't allow it. He'll want to stick around for at least one more draft and see how we compete in 2010.

i think alot of it also has to do with the fact that both owners have let him run the entire football side of the operation. ross will not bring in a premadonna winy arse player such as t.o that will distract from what parcells is trying to do..unless thats what parcells wants to do.it's hard to manage any business telling your employees "this is how we do things" only to have the owner step over you all the time and say no we are going to do it this way. parcells is getting paid very nicely to ride around on that golf cart and elbow rub and as long as he has full control of operations concerning football i think he stays as long as we are contenders and noone else throws crazy money at him with the same gig he has here.

Why would he leave? He has it all. In charge of ALL football decisions, a great coach and the city of Miami. What else could a man ask for?

Lost in all the "nomad" rhetoric is the reason why he bailed on NE NYJ and Dallas.
Parcells walked away from each of those organizations because he butted heads with either the owner or GM regarding player personnel. He wanted certain players, instead he got players who the owner or GM wanted. Hence the buying the groceries and cooking the dinner sound byte.
    That is why he left.
Here he doesn't have that. Here he's going to be able to build a team according to his vision of what it takes to be successful, while mentoring Ireland Sparano, etc. I think he stays until we win the SB or until he feels he's not needed anymore.
Plus. the guy loves baseball and golf........spring training and year round golf right here in south Florida.

Even if he does leave at the end of the season, does it matter? Like Dolphan1 said, the staff is competent and does what he would do. I'm not sure that it would make that much of a difference. In fact, I was very suprised that he hasn't been more visable with the team. Last year I was expecting to see him a lot more then we did.

Another factor is that Parcells has made a home in Jupiter, northern end of south Florida...it makes it a lot easier for him to have this job and still be semi-retired.

When he is finished with his contract, which I truly believe he will finish. He will be 70 years old. He will truly retire then and be finished with football for good, except his acceptance speech at his HOF induction.

He has everything he wants here, he has the right pieces in place, he has the total authority he wants, and he has none of the pressure of being the HC and meeting with the press, which he hates.

I believe Parcells will finish his contract here, because by then he will have us contending for, if not winning, a SB, which will cement his "legendary" status in this league. He wants to leave one final legacy and he has the tools and authority here to get that done. He has NO reason to want to leave. If some team came and offered him $6million/year I think the owner Ross would just pony up the extra $2million in a heartbeat. So no reason for Bill to leave financially.

Ross has proven he is not going to meddle with the football side of things, and shown total trust in Parcells to get the job done ANY way Bill wants to. Add all this to his home being in Jupiter, and him loving S. Florida, Spring Training, etc., and I just don't see why Bill would want to leave before his contract is up.

Also he is funny this way about numbers, he has likely set a goal to retire at 70, (hence the 4 year contract when he was 66) and when he reaches 70 his contract will be over. I see Bill tying things up neatly and handing over the franchise with a nice blue ribbon around a winning legacy for Mr. Ross and saying that's it, I'm 70 and I'm done.

Aside from which he set in place a 3 year plan for this team, he will at LEAST see that plan through. And we need one more offseason of drafting and FA to really have the talent level on this team that is needed for us to be a SB contender. So I see BP here minimum 1 more year after this season. JMHO.

For a football person like Parcells he has the perfect job. A similar job in any field anyone would love to have. Parcells has the final say and only answers to the owners who give him a free hand. He pretty much does whatever he wants and doesn't have to travel with the team. He lives in warm sunny weather and can play golf year around. I like to think he thinks the same thing and will stay out his contract and beyond.
Whatever he has done or will do he has certainly put down a good foundation for the Dolphins. Its great for us because he has given us a good coach and a good GM and he serves as the quality control officer, we should appreciate it while we have it.

Don't kid yourself, Snips....he won't be around long after this season. He has never stayed the length of his contract at any location he's been, why should this be any different. He's always left his contracts early, since he became a HC...this won't be anything different...

Exactly, not to mention he has pretty much been chased off everywhere else.

I really don't see that happening here

Honestly, I'd be surprised if he stays the entire contract. Doesn't matter the situation down here. That's what he does. He almost left last year and folks in the organization are already talking about it. In the meantime, Parcells finagled the ability to leave whenever he wants, even if it's to join another team, and collect all the money left on the contract. Wouldn't that be a kick in the balls?
As for worrying about him leaving, my main concern would be if he lands elsewhere. Then he's probably going to take a few of our coaches and probably the assistant GM (Brian Gaine). Possibly a few scouts as well.

Parcells also carries some gravitas with agents. Not one single holdout in two drafts. Agents will not **** with him.

As the years go by, the effect of him leaving would lessen. But we're only two years in. And having him around is always a help regardless.

There is one Job Title he has not had...Majority Team Owner.

Don't think it has been lost on Bill Parcell's that he has made three Owners hundreds of millions of dollars wealthier, there are a couple of lame duck franchises like St Louis and Jacksonville that are relatively cheap in a down economy.

I don't know that that is quite fair or accurate - it's too open ended to say it that way. People don't do things for no reason. And Parcells is no different. There was a reason why he was considering walking away last year and it's tied directly to why he left DAL, NYJ and NE. It always had to do with control over player personnel.
He stayed last year because Ross convinced Parcells that he would continue to have the same autonomy that Wayne had given him.
