Whoever wished injury on Pennington...

Thing is, he's not having issues. Yes, he's dropping some balls, and that sucks. But, in time, I think his hands will get better as he plays with Henne more. I still think Ginn can become a solid number 1/ Great number 2.

 

I'm the biggest defender of Ginn, but he needs to make those catches today. They were tough throws, tough catches, but he has to catch them. he didn't. Our offense was horrible today.

 

Dude, hes played one ****ing game, actually not even one game, one half of one game where he wasnt expected to be the starter and hasnt practiced with the first team basically at all. Give him at least next week, will still be way too early to pass ultimate judgement but atleast you'll ahve some kind of leg to stand on.,

Maybe he will get better. I hope so but I have seen him head for out of bounds safety or lose focus on the ball when pressured too many times to automatically think he will be what he is being paid to be. Again I hope I am wrong. He isn't showing me much reason to have faith in him.

We'll see in a couple of weeks when he and Henne have had a little time to gel. It is my hope he will become that explosive weapon many think he can be. Nothing would please me more. At this time though I have my doubts. I would even be happy if he would just become consistant and dependable.

 

Agree but look at the ravens ,Giants ,Falcons, jets ,steelers ...they all started QB rookies and did good ,we have just dont have the luck...


Henn has been here and still looked lost

 

I'll admit, I've been a little dissapointed in him, too. He's show flashes of elite level of play, then he'll drop a pass here or there. It's up too Ginn to prove that he can maintain that elite level of play.

 

When Penny went down my first thought was "Well I know some people are happy because we will surely see Henne, and we did." No, I did not mean that anyone would be glad that Penny got hurt; but that Henne would now have his day in the sun.

Please be aware that the Charger's reaction and subsequent pressure on Henne is what we will now see for the rest of this season, while he is our QB, until or unless he overcomes that same pressure! Like sharks with blood in the water; Henne will either step up or not and I for one am glad to get the chance to see just what hes got while we still have Penny still under contract. I just didn't want it to happen this way but it is what it is, so be it! This just may be a reason to give Penny an extention for a year or two, while grooming another QB, if we have to do so.

Its sad to say but I saw this same kneejerk reaction in 2007 with Beck. We were spoiled by Danny but there will NEVER be another one like him and everyone had best get used to that fact. With that being said hopfully we will find someone who can get the job done, with style, and shouldn't stop looking until we do. I'm thinking that we'll need to draft this QB in round #1 and next year just might be a good year to do so. Does that mean I've given up on Henne, NO, he's got the reins to the stagecoach, show us what you've got, Mr. Henne. While hes doing that very thing PLEASE give the Man your support, he's gonna need it!!

He has never shown me jack....preseason or anything. He has never made a pass where I was like wow nice throw.

I dont know what spoiled everyone to think we need something better than the solid starter we have. Did we forget the trash we dealt with before Pennington was here?

 

Oh boy. It's going to be fun around here the next couple of weeks. People are either going to be screaming that Henne sucks or making excuses for his poor play. I'm confident there will be no happy medium. I hope he can play well so we don't have to suffer through John Beck part II.

Seriously, if any of you were happy Pennington was injured then shame on you. Henne would have gotten his chance to play without a stand up guy like Chad having to suffer a career threatening injury.

So you dismiss the importance of getting into a rhythm with the offense via practicing with the first team? If that's the case, why have a 1st team offense in practice at all?

Say your lady wants to have some....err....fun. She's ready to have fun, and without getting too graphic, has been for quite a while. You're not, how would you do coming out of the gates cold?

 

Sorry, but I dont blame Henne for the way he played. When he is listed as the emergency QB, we have no idea how many reps he is getting during the week. The receivers have no sense of timing with him and Ginn did not help with the two drops. They were not the easiest catches to make, but they were also not the most difficult. Lets see what a week of practice as the starting QB will do for him. Hopefully they put some plays in to keep the defense honest and not stack the box. Instead of throwing in the season, lets get behind our team and realize that we do have some talent there and cheer them on to victory against Barfallo this week.

 

i don't think many wished injury on Pennington. Why would we want that? Anyone who wanted Henne in would rather see a benching, that way they get first team reps. That is important.

But there were many, like me, who say Pennington has a knack for getting injured every other year.

Apparently you didn't get the gist of my post that said i didn't think it mattered who the QB is. Our OC will still call the same old lame *** dink and dunk plays, so there's not much chance of anyone showing you a "wow, nice throw" play.

No it will be the offense play calling .. yet again. The 'golden child' will get a pass for quite a long time. If he doesn't produce then everyone will be calling for Pat White... well I shouldn't take it THAT far, but you get the point.

We play buffalo next week, so don't act as if they are as the same calibure of opponent we have been playing for the past 3 weeks.

If you look at the schedule the best time for Henne to come in and start is this week ( Bills ) or if he was named the starter during the bye week and then we face the Saints. But the blitzes and looks that the Jets are going to throw at Henne scare me to death. Being a inexperienced QB trying to figure out that defense... I don't want to be in his shoes.

PS: This schedule is brutal.

at this point I really dont see the difference, a zoo is a zoo is a zoo.

 

Fouts made the point yesterday that he wasn't sure how much the Dolphins were limited with Henne because of his knowledge of the playbook and schemes.

I call BS on that theory, because the guy has been here just as long as Pennington, and should know just about everything - Especially when you consider how limited our offense is to begin with.

After watching Henne yesterday though, it's clear the zip on his passes gives the receivers more time to make plays. There was a 3rd down to Bess in particular where Davone was able to make a couple moves and get some extra yardage. With Penny, Bess probably just makes the first down marker, if at all.

 

The above would be an unrealistic expectation about what he could do in his first game. I thought he should have thrown for only half that. So he should have thrown for one half of infinity billion yard and 50TD's. But he couldn't even manage that!

 

Pennington gave us a chance to win, Henne didn't play well in the preseason and I don't think the light is just going to turn on for him and he is all of sudden going to be a probowl player. I sure hope I am wrong and I eat crow and he becomes a stud, but after watching this guy in 8 preseason games he hasn't shown much in the last 2 years.

Just my opinion and again I hope I am wrong.

My wife said it best, she is like we don't have a QB or a WR to throw it to, all these teams that seem to pull out the late quarter come backs have that stud we have neither.

 

The preseason is like Spring Training - More often than not it means nothing.

Henne has the tools. He has zip on his passes and seems poised in the pocket. Whereas John Beck had what many call "Happy Feet", Chad seems a little more comfortable. Avoiding that sack yesterday was a prime example.

If you expected him to lead us to a come from behind win in his first game action of the year on the road (even though he lead us to 10 points) then that's asking a bit much IMO.

 

I am sorry preseason means a lot, if your QB can't look off 2nd and 3rd tier DBs what makes you think he can play in the regular season?

I am sorry but if the only way to measure a player is training camp, preseason and practice. I think it means a lot.

 

Was he really that horrible in preseason? By that logic, no one on offense has showed us anything because they were all bad in the preseason. Hell, I can't remember Ronnie Brown even looking good.

And those 2nd and 3rd tier DB's are covering our 2nd and 3rd tier WR's while Henne is in the game, not to mention backups on the O-Line. I'm not sure what you were looking for out of him in the PS.

I think Henne has the tools. I don't see any reason why with the right play calling and (hopefully) uprgarded talent around him he can't be as good as some of the other young QB's in this league.

 

Uhmm we kept our starters in for a decent amount of snaps in preseason to give Henne work and yes he looked horrible in preseason. It is our only measuring stick like it our not. Henne wasn't that special in college either, he has the same habits now he had then, not able to look off the DBs, in college it didn't show up as bad mainly for the reason they line up 10 yards off the WR and for the most part the DBs in college usually can't close in like they can in the NFL there is a huge difference between the two.

Ronnie Brown barely ran the ball or touched the ball in preseason. RBs don't usually need as much work.

Don't get me wrong I want this guy to be a stud, I am just not sure he has it if he had all these tools he might have been on the field before now, but there is a reason he has been on the bench.

well we disagree on henne which is cool. I thought he played well in preseason other than the tampa game. I am not expecting him to become a pro bowl player this year or next. Maybe down the road but I am not even expecting that per se. I am expecting a good QB to eventually develop. Someone who can sneak into the top ten when discussing QBs in the league. Not this year but maybe in 2011. That is not to say I expect him to be dogmeat this year either. I expect him to have growing pains for the first few games and then settle into a Joe Flacco calm (Flacco's first season not this season) somewhere around his 8th game.

It's JMO he has the tools. Arm strength and pocket poise are the two biggest thing I see. Reading defenses is something you can learn to get better at.

Maybe he turns out to be horrible, maybe he's a future All-Pro. I just have a hard time writing off someone before their first career start, that's all.

 

Who has written him off? I just said I haven't seen any improvement in him since he has gotten here.

He was a late second round pick lets not go make him into something he isn't like we did with John Beck.

Also lets not bring in the well Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round blah blah.

For the record I was hoping he sat one more year and we opened up training camp with an all out competition, unfortunately CP is not hurt and our only choice is Henne or White so we will have to make due. I am just not expecting much from either of them.

 

Preseason is for practice, getting reps, learning the playbook, building chemistry, working on conditioning, trying new things on offense that you may not actually use during the regular season, etc. Anyone who is looking at the numbers during preseason to make an evaluation of a player is looking in the wrong place, it's about getting reps in.

 

if preseason was that telling of the regular season we'd be 3-0 right now.

 

We were pretty lousy in preseason, the record doesn't matter but the way we played was horrible.

Let's hope we don't get Henne killed and they give him a chance, I don't want to see another John Beck experiment where we pull the plug after 3.5 games, if this guy is supposed to be the future then lets give him a real chance.

 

But the Tampa game was the preseason game where he got to play with the first string offense, against the Bucs starters and he looked like just as much *** as Pennington did.

Henne made 1 amazing throw as a Dolphin; it was against KC in the preseason last year. From that point on people have been in love with him.

I am with HexonX on this one. On what I have seen, he hasn't jumped out to me. When he played with our starters he looked just 'meh'.. when he played against the 2nd and 3rd stringers he just looked more 'meh' ( in his defense the Oline play by the 2nd and 3rd stringers were terrible). But I just haven't seen this guy do anything that warrants him starting ahead of Pennington, if both are healthy. At what point, in what you have seen, did he play head and shoulders above Pennington?

John Beck isn't the standard to which Henne will be judged. So saying Henne is better than Beck at 'x' really doesn't mean much. Being better than Beck still results in you holding a clipboard on Sunday. Pennington is the short term measuring stick, and the stick will be much higher than that in the long term when deciding if he is the franchise QB or not.

I like Henne's arm and willingness to sit in there an take shot to deliver a throw. I am not sold on his decision making and his ability to look off defenders. I don't know about his accuracy. I will have to go watch the preseason games again to get an idea on that.

Anyone remember Byron Leftwich looking like Pro Bowler against our secondary? Leftwich missing throws to wide open receivers ( like Matt Ryan ).

Jake Long giving up 2 sacks in the preseason ( one to a rookie DE for the panthers ), and then getting man handled by John Abramas and some other fool in Atlanta.

You can write off the preseason record, but you can't write off how we played.

 

When it comes to Henne I think we really need to give him a chance. Yes he played badly this last game, by the way did you see Pennington go up to him and enocuraged Henne looked like he said it's your time to shine, too bad it fizzled. I hardly doubt that Henne has not practiced with our first string offense and I hardly doubt he doesn't know the play book.
What I saw was a scared little boy who was scared to pass the ball more than 5 yards down the field, I saw a qb who has issues with locking onto receiver, I see a guy who does not have field awareness to realize he is a good three yards beyond the line of scrimmage. But I also see potential and possibility in the kid, I think we should give him a chance to play a whole game with a whole week of practice. This means Ginn has to step up, I know I have heard people on here say this will be a break out year for Ginn, but he is too busy dropping balls. Here are his impressive stats

Yeah we played the same way in Atlanta the way we played in preseason, I was unfortunately at the game and wish I could get my money back on that performance.

I thought the offense played well against the Colt's but our secondary is just lousy.

Where do we go from here? I dunno I am behind this team no matter who is starting.

Ideally in a perfect world Henne lights it up and Ginn becomes a beast, just don't see it happening but man would it make this season great no matter what our record is.

 

I think he got a taste on how fast the game is, and just cause WR appears to be open doesn't mean they are. DBs close in so fast in the NFL, its a learning process that all QBs have to go through. I think CP coaching him up will help a lot too, something Beck didn't have at all.
