Henning still thinks Henne good as Flacco, Ryan http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...g-still-thinks-henne-good-as-flacco-ryan.html
I believe that too, it was a great QBs draft so you gotta give henne that he was apart of a great class. if I remember properly NFL network was comparing this class to the class of '83, class marino, elway, kelly was in
I agree with Henne. When I evaluated that QB class I had Ryan as the best but I didn't want us to pick him b/c I didn't think he was that much better than Flacco or Henne and I was fairly certain that we could get one of the other two later. After watching them for a year I actually believe that Flacco has better long term potential than Ryan.
I hate to speculate or even suggest how good Henne may be without feeling I may jinx him. We have been snake bitten so many times it makes you want the best but fear the worst. The truth is Henne may be just as good or even better than Flacco and Ryan and then again he may not be quite as good, we just don't know yet. I guess we will get a preview of the future of Henne this Sunday
good stuff to hear but at the same time i dont have alot of trust in Henning at the current moment. I do however, believe in henne.
Well Henne has the arm to be elite. Flacco had the most potential out of the three due to his physical skillset though he was the rawest, while Ryan was the most likely to achieve success due to his off the wall intangibles though he had the weakest arm of the three. Henne's main problems were mobility, pocket awareness and short stature. But he's got the arm. This was the strongest QB class since Eli, Rivers, Big Ben. I wouldnt be surprised if all three have success and if thats the case who cares which one we picked. Personally Henne reminds me a bit of a mini Roethlisberger. I shall call him mini-ben
Henne will be an elite QB. Mark it. He would have been a good to very good qb. Pennington is the reason he will be elite. Posted via Mobile Device
if henne becomes elite it wont be because of pennington but because of mr and mrs henne. pennington may have helped but its all on henne.
Im just so glad we didnt have some tool like farve as his mentor...whatever is possible to learn as the backup Im sure Penny made sure he learned it.
My point though is ... To truly be elite.. You have to know the importance of preparation..and how to prepare. Watching film, learning to read a defense. That is why Pennington is so huge for Henne Posted via Mobile Device
Henne may one day be a good starter for us, right now the dolphins need "Chad Henne, remarkably turnover free for a first time starter". We have some pieces for him to work with, Ginn and Fasano may see something of a rebirth, DBess as well.
eh, i dont see Big Ben in Henne at all. infact, i see almost the opposite. Ben is extremely well under pressure, great pocket presense and feel for the pocket, as well as extremely hard to bring down and good on the run..Hennes knock in college and the main reason i was NOT a fan of him coming out was the lack of his pocket presence and how bad he was on the move. I have seen some things so far as a dolphin that makes me think i was wrong about Henne. Hopefully i was wrong, and hopefully im right now.
encouraging words, but I don't believe it we'll soon know the high & low of it all we can do is continue to hope & move forward I think we'll beat Buffalo & that will be a good start
Well the one good thing about Henne starting, is that he is creating a buzz among the fans going into a game where the team is 0-3. If nothing more its helping give fans hope right now when normally at 0-3 fans are jumping off the ship. I am another person that thinks Miami can beat Buffalo at home this week especially if Henne can cause the defense to back off the line a little bit. I don't think we'll see the explosion of a star this weekend as Henne will surely struggle in what is basically his rookie season but I do think we'll see a decent game from him (probably equal TD to INT ratio but maybe one more INT than TD). I also still believe that if Miami can win the next two going into their bye week they'll only be a game out of the division lead and back in contention. I think the Bills and Jets are the two most beatable teams the Fins have played yet. So here is to hoping Henne shows us something this week and weakened Buffalo defense (especially secondary) can go a long way in doing that.
Well, that's good to hear, but the real question, in my mind, is whether or not Henning is going to change the trend of his play calling. His play calling or at least the execution of that play calling has been ultra-conservative and bland. With Henne, he may just dig further into the shell and if that continues, Henne won't grow either. The success of Henne is tied more to Henning's play calling than Henne's athleticism or lack of QB ability at this point.
I do understand you point, but this coaching staff has consistently played to the personnel's strengths on offense. So I am not to concerned with the play calling. It will change, over time, to what Henne does well. The first couple of plays against Buffalo might be conservative, but once Henne gets settled down and comfortable. I think they will look to stretch the field. Henne: Last night I went back an watch almost all of Henne's snaps this year ( Preseason against the Bucs and Saints and of course the Chargers game) - I thought his accuracy on the short passes is great. The medium to long passes it goes down a bit. Overall his accuracy seems good not great. - After he felt pressure against the Chargers, he maintained a 'hurried' mind state for a play or two, before settling back down and not rushing the reads/throws. It was his first game this year so it is understandable, it's just not a good sign for when we face the Jets. - Reading Defenses... hard to tell from watching the TV footage. *EDIT removed because it was wrong - He had a good grasp of the offense in the preseason. During the Saints game they would give Henne two plays and the option to kill one at the line( like Pennington on Monday night). He chose to kill one or two at the line. That shows good command of the offense mentally. I can't remember if the did that against the Chargers or not. Bills game: If The Bills sit back and play standard coverages w/o blitzing then Henne will do fine. Zone Blitz and all out blitzes with man coverage ( zero man ) then it will get interesting. What dolphins player wins their 1 on 1 matchup and makes a big play against a man coverage blitz? I am thinking Bess, Cobbs, and Ginn. I have to find a way to watch this game...
i was much harsher on henne in college for the same reasons you mentioned but i have seen some maneuvaribilty in his game in miami. his pocket presence while still below average is better than i anticipated when i watched him in college. the play that made me think of big ben was the pass over the line of scrimmage where he stiff armed two would be tacklers and juked out a third before throwing a TD over the line. He's been a better QB in Miami than he was at Michigan IMO. He still has a way to go but the early indications are encouraging
He will still need a personal protector Adamp, Ronnie B or Lou Polite. Big Ben is so huge he just shoves tacklers off of him, but he takes a ton of hits, enough that sooner or later he will begin breaking down physically.
he said he thinks he can be as good as Ryan & Flacco not that he is as good as either of them could say the same about Pat White or Thigpen what would you expect him to say? let's hope for the best. within the next 3 or 4 games you'll have your answer
Henne did a good job of shaking off 3 would be tacklers....before crossing the LOS I think he's be fine with Ronnie or Lou staying into block, Lousaka has improved his blocking skills and Ronnie is an excellent blocker.
I don't expect 3 or 4 games to give us the answer on Henne. Of course, if he lights the NFL on fire in his next 3 or 4 games, I would think that we have our answer. However, I'm not expecting him to light it up. I think by the end of the season we have our answer as to whether or not Henne is the real deal.
LOL. If you were around then, you'll remember that Todd Blackledge, Tony Eason, and Ken O'Brien were all taken in the first round before Dan Marino. Who are these other guys? Who indeed. I happen to remember them all, but that's cuz I'm old. None of them are Chad Henne...he has his own story to play out, so we'll see how that goes. The funny thing about the 1983 draft was that every single team in the AFC East, which included 5 teams back then, picked a QB in the first round. #1 - John Elway to the Baltimore Colts. Elway weaseled his way out of it and went to Denver...kinda like what Eli Manning did to get out of San Diego. #14 - Jim Kelly went to Buffalo...took him a couple of years, but he came. Here's a tidbit: the Bills picked a tight end two spots higher than Kelly in that draft. #15 - Tony Eason went to New England - he wasn't that great, but the Patriots went far with him a couple of years...kinda like Rex Grossman far. #24 - Ken O'Brien went to the Jets #27 - Dan Marino went to the Dolphins. There were only 28 teams in the NFL in 1983. Also, Todd Blackledge went to the Kansas City Chiefs with the #7 pick, before Kelly or Marino. Just a little nostalgia for those that care.
