I love what he brings to the table and how he can keep plays alive with his feet. I'd take him over Snead every day of the week.
Yeah, I think the difference between him and Snead is that Snead gets happy feet. Locker looked good against Notre Dame last night and didn't seem to melt mentally when he had just under a minute and thirty to drive downfield to tie it up for over time.
Huh. I'll be damned. So basically we've come to like all of the same QBs. And dislike the same ones, too. We need some variety. Does Con happen to be a LeFevour fan or something? Get us a nice change of pace in here since you and I are stuck on McCoy, Pike, Locker and (I think) Bradford.
We are. I think McCoy is going to make someone really happy next season. St Louis, Cleveland.....who knows what the Titans will do with Vince Young....Raiders, Redskins, Panthers. Pike has the biggest arm. I think it's not inconceivable for him to make a higher than Jay Cutler like rise up the board. You like Ponder more than me I think.
Anyone else watching Middle Tennessee State vs Troy? Wow is all I can say about Chris McCoy's explosiveness. At 6'4", 250 lbs, he's very explosive off the weak side and is doing a good job of dipping his shoulder thus far.
With Dez Bryant gone for the year, Williams probably becomes the best WR on the board, depending on how teams view the Bryant issue. Kid is having a stunning season.
Wouldn't be surprised if Haden slipped. Mike Williams is a man. He should go very high. He's real good. I like Ponder more than you but not for this year. I wouldn't draft him high this year. There's something missing in his game, what I can imagine is that by next year I start to see a lot more of that something that is missing.
anyone going to watch Mizzou/ Nebraska tonight? Want to check out NT Suh and S Asante for Nebraska and OLB Witherspoon and WR Alexander for Mizzou. Havent seen either team this year. Anyone check them out yet?
Suh's a monster and a very consistent player. You'll likely see a lot of double teams against him but he will likely still collapse the pocket. He also plays laterally very well. I havent' seen Asante yet. Witherspoon is very instinctive, will do quite a bit of blitzing up the middle and has a good closing burst, he does some dropping in coverage and they mostly play zone. He does it well. He runs well but he's not the same player he was last year in that aspect of his game because he's put on weight and he just doesn't look as fluid. Sometimes looks like he's running in tar, a bit like James Laurenaitis last year. As for Danario Alexander, last time I watched him, he beat up a bad Nevada defense so it was hard to really gauge him. We'll see tonight. He ran routes pretty well against Nevada, had good hands and showed ability to go over the middle but that was one game and against the aforementioned bad defense. Last, I like Mizzou's running back Derrick Washington a bit more than others. He's a nice player IMO. He's one of the softest 220 pound backs you'll ever see but he's got some wiggle and quickness. I like him.
Weatherspoon still seems a little heavier on his feet. When he was 220-225ish last year I swear he looked like a pure 4.5 guy. I know he must be trying to gain weight to prepare him for the NFL, but I haven't seen that extra weight helping improve the areas that this "added weight" should be benefitting...like playing stouter and sifting through traffic. IDK, maybe my eye is askew..... or maybe he's still growing into his new size and we'll see him improve these areas over the course of the season. I still think he's a great talent, but I'll take McClain as it stands. There's probably going to be a split party this year going into the draft: Spikes vs McClain. Rolando strikes me as serious BP type player: big, physical, instinctive, relentless playmaker/leader. For instance, think about the traits Sparano&Co prioritized in CB last draft (Smith and VD). If speed wasn't near the top of our hierarchy for CB then, then I don't see why that mentality would change regarding MLBs this year, especially if the kid (McClain) can flat out play. LOL. Just my 2 cents.
Big Question: how much of an upgrade do any of you feel Suh is over Langford? Discuss. If we hypothetically picked top 5, I would love to have an option between Suh and Berry....I'd also like the option of trading that pick for SanFran or Seattle's 2 1st rounders if their "desired QB" is on the board at our pick.
Suh is an upgrade on Merling. He and Gerald McCoy are elite. Suh was the best defensive lineman I saw last year. By far.
I agree. I would put McCoy above Suh at the moment because I like his versatility as a 5 technique in a 3-4.
McCoy's explosion off the snap is remarkable. He is as disruptive a force as I've seen from the interior in a long time. Suh is a powerhouse who will come at you and come at you and beat you down in the pass rush, in the run game and with his 60 minute game. Stunning players both.
Boomer, you didn't answer the question. I agree Langford "may" be the better than Merling now, but I feel Merling has a higher ceiling and will be a bigger impact player. <not just bc he's from Clemson> LOL. I'm trying to imagine how much more disruptive he could become with Suh opposite him....and how productive Wake could be. Posted via Mobile Device
I think Weatherspoon looked good but he didnt wow in any sense. Seems like a safe pick although he may slip down the draft a bit. I'm still of the opinion we go for OLB. Someone like Norwood or Hughes in the first. Follow it up with Mich Johnson in the 2nd
As of today Suh is the most impressive football player Ive seen that will be available in 2010. Reminds me of Ngata. Rare combination of speed, power and athleticism. I always thought Dorsey was overrated but Suh should be getting the type of hype that Dorsey got two years ago. He's the real deal unlike Dorsey
I like Hughes but I'm not sold on Norwood yet. I want to see more of him. Also, I have the height question. How big is he? I've read from NFL scouts that he may be only 6'0". Here's a quote for ya. I agree with everything you note. I think Suh is a rare player and I think he's going to be an excellent player at the next level barring something unfortunate. As for McCoy, I just think you can do so many things with him and I think he's a dynamic coaches dream. The only reason I say dynamic coach is because I think those coaches who mix up their fronts and give you a plethora different looks such as Belichick, are given so many options with McCoy. On the zone blitz you can drop him in coverage and let him sit on the underneath area or you can do a OLB/DE (McCoy playing DE) exchange with him, allowing him to drop in a small zone. Do some spot dropping with him if you wish. And then he runs well laterally. Probably the only thing you can't do with him and have him reach his full potential is have him be a two gap NT.
Btw, D'Anthony Smith of Lousiana Tech is on once again. This time going up against Nevada. Smith is a good prospect IMO.
I would assert that being in the position to draft Suh might be more a threat to Paul Soliai than Langford. Given the nature of our defense, how well a guy like Jay Ratliff has worked in what is essentially the same defense, and I don't think it is particularly crazy. A Nose Tackle that high is worthwhile if he can stop the run without having to be a huge pile of **** to where he doesn't have the conditioning to stay on the field on passing downs.
Also, anyone know where I can download last night's game? I missed it because I was with the family but I would love to watch it.
I still want to see him though. I'd also like to see Weatherspoon once more as well as Washington and Alexander.
Norwood can play. To me thats the most important facet. Is he better suited for a Steelers type defense, maybe? But if Norwood drops to the 2nd due to his size I would snap him up in a heartbeat. Hughes looks the part and plays well but I'm a bit concerned about TCU players making the transition to the NFL. I really want to see him in all star games. I really think we can could go three straight rounds drafting linebackers and get a starter each round
I think Norwood will drop second. Wouldn't surprise me if it was third. I was equally impressed by his teammate Greg Matthews against Ole Miss. As for Hughes, it's all about getting rid of the one year wonder tag. If he plays like he did last year, then he should go pretty high I'd say. Though it wouldn't surprise me to see him slip into the bottom of the first or early second.
Hughs also has a height issue and might come in just over 6 foot....running into a similar issue that Everette Brown had last year. I'm really starting to like the kind of player Ricky Sapp will possibly grow into. He's the total physical, athletic package with room to continue getting bigger and stronger. He's now about 6'4 245 and hasn't seemed to lose a step after gaining those 20lbs. Under DC, Kevin Steele, he's shown that he's very coachable, makes great decisions, and seems pretty instinctive. IMO I could see him becoming a 255lb beast with the potential of outperforming every pass rusher in this draft. <as long as he can stay off IR>
I'm no Boomer but I think he could travel the same route that Hakeem Nicks did. It certainly wouldn't surprise me.
